A Time to Love: A Scottish Historical Time Travel Romance (To the Time of the Highlanders Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 503 ratings

Historian Emilia Guthrie has spent her life studying the past…what happens when that past comes to life?

While exploring the ruins of a Stonehaven castle, Emilia doesn’t expect to see any signs of life – most especially an apparition of an injured Highland warrior. She can’t help but follow where he leads, until she hurtles back through time to 16th century Scotland.

Dougal MacGavin has waited years to prove himself worthy to lead his clan as Laird. In the midst of avenging his father through a bloody battle, he must suddenly protect a woman as strange as she is beautiful.

Emilia is determined to save Dougal and the MacGavin clan, despite the fact he thinks her mad. How can they overcome their own battle of stubborn will and attraction to fight all that threatens to destroy them?

This is a steamy Scottish time travel romance and was previously published as Time of Valor.

Ellie has always loved reading, writing, and history.
For many years she has written short stories, non-fiction, and can hardly believe that she is now living out her dream writing historical romance.

In every era there is the chance for romance, and Ellie enjoys exploring many different time periods, cultures, and geographic locations. No matter when or where, love can always prevail.
She has a particular soft spot for the bad boys of history, and can't help but write of strong, feisty heroines.

Ellie and her husband love nothing more than spending time at home with their two sons and Husky cross. Ellie can typically be found at the lake in the summer, pushing the stroller all year round, and, of course, with her computer in her lap or a book in hand.

I loved the history, the romance, the time travel and the Highlanders. The author does a good job of describing the people, their thoughts and emotions, and what is happening around them - in either time. Excellent story, and I look forward to the release of the final book.

I enjoyed Emilia and Dougal's story. It was entertaining even though it was not at the level I have grown to enjoy. Many things in the story were cliche and stereotypical and well, lets just say it was a light, entertaining read and leave it at that.

Time travel is a very interesting concept one brought to life by Ms St Clair. Emelia travels through time and saves the life of Dougal after a battle with a rival clan. As they fall in love they are able to travel back and forth through time. What a concept! Have you ever thought you may have lived in another time? This story makes me wonder if it’s truly possible.

It’s amazing how one can write a story to feel so realistic when it’s fiction. I felt like I was there looking in the whole time. In fact I read it in one day. I couldn’t put it down. I recommend it!

Note: This story was originally published as TIME OF VALOR under the pen name Audrey Adair in 2017.

Synopsis: A modern day woman is thrust back in time to 16th century Scotland while visiting the site of a brutal clan war where a young laird was gravely injured...

I really wanted and tried to like this story but it was just never able to truly pull me in. The time traveling I found way too easy, the relationship unbelievable, and the ending predictable. I simply didn't feel a connection to or between this couple either and while Emilia was nice enough, Dougal was mostly rude and sullen.

There also wasn't much in the way of romance and Dougal seemed to undergo a complete personality change late in the tale. Even the two sex scenes did nothing for me since I couldn't decide when, where or why these two fell in love. That being said I still didn't hate this story which is why I went with three stars instead of two.

Other: Although this is the second book in a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. The only crossover character is a strange little fairy godmother who I'm guessing will play a part in the next book too.

    Ages: Emilia (27) Dougal (24)
Length: The story itself ended at the 90% mark on page 139 and location 1764.

Four stars, ok storyline typical time travel story, woman goes back in time, meets Laird.. Fall in love, battle of revenge, marry and happily ever after.. There is the historic battles between the Scottish and their Lairds.. Naturally, the heroine is a history buff, fortunately in that particular history.. Drama, sex, murder.

Emilia and Dougal’s heart warming love story is intriguing and tempestuous at times. The introduction to time travel for each of them must have evoked mystery and discombobulation.

Love these Highlander Time Travel stories.

This book is wonderful, it is a time travel book which starts with a broken romance between Bryan and Emilia. They broke up due to her boss at the University that she taught at had offered her promotion of a dream job. She was over the moon. But Bryan became jealous and they said things to each other that shouldn’t have been said then she packed her bags and left. She decided that she would go to Scotland, Where she could study history which was the subject that she taught at University. So off she went and she rented a small house. On the plane going to Scotland a lady came and sat next to her and they Chatted, but Emilia found her very strange and unusual.. Well, the lady soon disappeared which Emilia found very strange, and very perplexing. She found the rented cottage and decided that she would go the next day to look for a Castle which she had studied, it was called Dunnottar Castle and she decided that she would go to look around how the castle looked in modern day, as it had been inhabited since sometime in the 1500’s. Later on that day she decided to go to Aberdeen . Whilst she was out she decided to get some lunch. So she took lunch at a smart Scottish cafe, when by chance the lady from the airplane came and sat by her and they chatted again. Then she was gone again, but before she went they talked about Emilia visiting Dunnottar castle and told her she should go early. Emilia had a thought that the lady was following her.
So the next morning off she went, and as she approached the castle she now saw men dressed in battle gear she watched for a few minutes.. she thought that it was a display but unknown to her on the way to the castle she had gone through a portal and had gone back centuries in time. So the battle commenced but one of the Lairds was seriously injured. Douglas had beeen. Stabbed by one of the Buchanan tribe. So Emilia offered to help with the nursing of him. The story then goes on and when he had healed then. She took him through the portal with her to show him what modern life was like.
Romance blossomed and they fell in love. The story has lots of excitement and it is an excellent story. I was asked to review this book with No payment Or coercion. I was very Happy To Do it. A very enjoyable book , with lovely characters and romance. I enjoyed every word.

The book by Ellie St. Clair was so small, where the chapter pages took up half the page, disappointing, which also made this book too short (139 pages) to be called a book but rather it should be advertised as a novella instead. I liked the story line but I felt ripped off by how short this story was for the amount I paid. I write books too and they consist mostly of at least 270 to 300 pages long with intertwining stories that make up seven books in this series and I only charge about the same as this author charged so maybe my prices should go up?!? Umm! Anyhow, if St. Clair will write a longer book/story for the same value than I will review and reconsider buying another book by her.

To the time of the Highlander Book 2 was as excellent as book 1. A love story of Emilia travelling in time to the 1500s and meeting Dougal a Laird on the battlefield. A nice easy read and if you like time travel books this is well worth reading.
