About the authors
Ellie has always loved reading, writing, and history. For many years she has written short stories, non-fiction, and can hardly believe that she is now living out her dream writing historical romance.
In every era there is the chance for romance, and Ellie enjoys exploring many different time periods, cultures, and geographic locations. No matter when or where, love can always prevail. She has a particular soft spot for the bad boys of history, and can't help but write of strong, feisty heroines.
Ellie and her husband love nothing more than spending time at home with their two sons and Husky cross. Ellie can typically be found at the lake in the summer, pushing the stroller all year round, and, of course, with her computer in her lap or a book in hand.
Hearing from readers always makes her day!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2020What a delightful story! I feel like I am stepping back into Downton Abbey although many years before and enjoying the lives of the staff that makes the household run!
This is Charlotte, who wants to move up to be a lady's maid, and Philip, who is the valet to the second son of the duke's story. Of course, having a great family they work for, only makes them want the happiness they see in love for themselves!
Philip is focused on a new maid in the house Lily, but he cannot seem to capture her interest. What better way than make her jealous? He looks to Charlotte to help him, but on the way, these those might just find they are meant for each other!
Simply wonderful!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2020A fun, cute story that hooked me in from the beginning. This was a story of the servants, rather than the lords and ladies, and brought a refreshing viewpoint to a Regency romance. It was interesting to see how the servants interacted—with their “betters” as well as with each other. It’s a friends to lovers story of a maid and a valet, but so much more, as the mystery of the theft of silver and jewelry is also a big part of the tale. Charlotte and Philip have been friends since childhood, so working together to solve the thefts, all while falling love, is a natural progression. It was a quick read, that was nicely engaging, with a delightful HEA. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my freely given, honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2020A servant girl helps her best friend with a pretend engagement so he can attract a pretty lady's maid. The maid and her cohort turn out to be crooks and the young girl is accused of being the thief. Finally the truth is revealed and the couple marry. Good plot.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2020Ellie never delivers a story I don't like.. This one was so sweet and just as memorable as all of her other books.. I look forward to the rest of her books and I definitely look forward to more of the house of Devon series
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2020This is a short, sweet, romantic story that is so much more than you expect. Deception and lies nearly ruin Charlotte's life but her family saves the day. Phillip is a character and brought a light fun to the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2020Charlotte, a maid, and Philip, second son William's valet, are best friends. New members, Stuart and Lily, are welcomed into the household. Lily is beautiful and instantly draws Philip's attention but she ignores him. He convinces Charlotte to pretend to be betrothed to him so that Lily will warm to him. His mom warns him that Charlotte will be hurt. Then Charlotte is accused of stealing from the household. Who is behind the thefts? What does Philip learn from this experience? A charming historical story with a HEA.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving my review.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2020A very charming story introducing us to the House of Devon. Charlotte has grown up here where her parents were both servants before her, as was her best friend, Philip. She longs to be promoted to lady’s maid, but that dream dies when a beautiful outsider is given the position instead. Then suddenly valuable items are disappearing and Charlotte is accused of the crimes. But Philip stands by her, determined to clear her name and their friendship blossoms into much more. I don’t think that I’ve ever read a regency story focused on the servants. It was quite fun!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2020This is a short read. It takes you to the downstairs of a manor house with a love story between a maid and a valet. It is a different approach to a regency. The story shows how vulnerable the help really was to the whims of the nobility or other servants.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Touch of Temptation (House of Devon Book 2)
I liked this book immensely. It told of a household that had worked together for years. So they knew how each other worked, their mood patterns, their humour, their private lives. So when the housekeeper got married Charlotte and Phillip were at the wedding and she mentioned to Phillip how she would love the housekeepers job, and would Phillip ask the Lord if she could have promotion. Phillip and Charlotte had been close friends for years, and Phillip said he would. But Phillip thought no more about it. After a few weeks they were told that’ll new staff were joining them which Charlotte was not happy about. Anyway Phillip took a fancy to the new lady, but all was not good when valuable items were going missing. Charlotte was blamed then
Dismissed. A plan had to be decided immediately. I was sent an
ARC of this book, but I have without payment or prejudice reviewed it with my own judgement. I found it very entertaining and beautifully written. The story was simple and easy to follow.
The characters were lovely and a kind, caring crowd. Well done Miss St Clair it was a very enjoyable book. xxx

5.0 out of 5 stars Great
I found this a really good book. Charlotte is a great character. She works hard as a maid but also has a sense of adventure. Philip her best friend and fellow adventurer tries to lure her into a false courtship only for their feelings for each other to hit them in the face. A theft at the Abbey implicates Charlotte but Philip works hard to protest her innocence. Can they find the culprit.
