A Touch of Danger (Surviving Vihaan Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

Drew’s life sucks. Saving money to escape his homophobic family is one thing, but his only paying gig at the moment is playing his father’s “only gay in the village” plus-one to every LGBT friendly business event.

Then his brother comes up with a plan. Sheffield needs someone to go undercover for his police investigation. Drew has all the qualifications: he’s gay, he has experience with exotic animals, and he’s college-aged. And he’s easily bought.

Going undercover to solve the mystery of a college campus smuggling ring was never in his plans. Neither was hot, perfect, house captain Rylee. The inside jokes about cats, animal prints, and talk of a place called Vihaan that forbids same-sex relationships, are just the tip of the suspicious iceberg.

Little does Drew know that he’s about to expose more than an illegal smuggling operation. The truth could be more lethal than he could imagine. And, despite it all, it might be his own secret past that kills him before the truth can be unveiled.

A refreshingly different take on the two natured. This story is built on the premise that earth is a sanctuary for LGBT shifters from a place called Vihaan that forbids same-sex relationships. Drew is angsty as heck but he has reason to be. It took me a bit to warm up to Rylee but eventually he one me over. This is a terrific start to a new series. I love the world building and am looking forward to more adventures Surviving Vihaan.

Such an interesting book, shifters, the effects suffered by those in the LGBT community and another dimension where dating someone of the same sex is not welcome, the belief is if a child cannot be conceived then there is no legitimate reason for sex. This is a shifter story, and it is unlike any I have read before.

When Drew revealed to his family that he was gay he was thrown out, a sad story but one that happens every day. When his homophobic dad realized that he could use Drew to give himself good press he was given a year’s tuition as a payoff. Now once again Drew finds himself being used by his family; his brother Sheffield is a detective working on a case involving a fraternity suspected of dealing in exotic animals. Drew is the perfect age, attends the university and is gay. All the members of the fraternity are either, gay, bi or transgender which is the reason it is called the House of Acceptance.

Two previous undercover detectives were caught and thrown out, but Drew is hopefully the perfect person to get the job done and give his brother the big win he is after. When Drew knocks on the fraternity house door he comes face to face with the captain of the house, Rylee, and sparks fly as soon as they see each other. Drew’s story is that his family threw him out and he needs a place to stay for the night till he can find someplace else.

Drew is accepted and will share a room with Rylee and the sparks between them could start a fire. Drew is offered the opportunity to stay for as long as he wants, and he jumps at it. All the fraternity members welcome him with open arms, and he finds himself loving the feeling of being wanted at the same time as he feels guilty about what he is there for.

As he searches for evidence his feelings for Rylee grow even though Rylee does everything in his power to stay away from him. Drew wants Rylee and Rylee finds himself unable to resist Drew, what Drew didn’t realize is that there is a reason for Rylee to stay away but resistance is futile, got that from a movie lol. There is a lot of mention of Vihaan which Drew believes is a cult. All the members admit to having come from Vihaan and for the first half of the book Vihaan is a mystery.

Finally, the truth about Vihaan is revealed, why Rylee was afraid of pursuing a relationship with Drew is also revealed and they both discover that they shared a relationship with the same man. Drew unfortunately suffered extreme pain while Rylee came out in one piece. Drew must figure out a way to reveal the truth about why he is at the fraternity because he knows in his heart that there is no way in hell, he will betray the man he has fallen in love with or the friends he has made.

This was a very interesting story filled with some amazing characters. There is sex, violence, surprises and secrets. The first half of the book sets the stage, the second half brings about the big reveals.

This is a series that must be read in order to truly understand the world the author has built. I am about to read book two which will be Keon’s story, someone who became close friends with Drew and who deserves a HEA.

3.5 - 4 Totally willing to give the rest of the series a try. ;)

So, this one had promise, but I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Could be a “it’s not the book, it’s me” thing? I think that the main problem I had with A Touch of Danger was the world building. It’s not that it wasn’t great… it was just a little confusing. It got better the farther into the story that I got, so patience is a necessity with this one. *sigh*

As for the characters, they grew on me too. I liked Drew from the start, mainly because of his circumstances. He was in a no win situation when it came to his family, which is why he jumped on Sheffield’s offer. Even though he was basically using him and putting him in potential danger.

There’s more than meets the eye in A Touch of Danger. The residents of the house are just as much of a misfit in their world as Drew seems to be in his. Which is one of the many reasons that Drew seems to connect with them as quickly as he does. Rylee fights that connection as long as he can, but some things… well, you’ll just have to read this one to figure that one out.

As I said in my initial review when I finished A Touch of Danger, regardless of how I felt about this first book, I’m more than willing to give the rest of the series a try. I have a feeling that as the series continues, things will become clearer.

I received A Touch of Danger in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A great start to the book. I loved Drew's character as he got me into the book. Drew was knowledgeable about the species but doesn't have a clue what's right in front of him or what's about to happen. Drew has a past which comes in to play at the halfway point. Rylee's part in this is a little deceptive with secrets in play all around. Smoking hot sexy scenes included. The ending has some violent drama scenes but it all works out in the end for a HEA.

When Drew's brother asks him to help a police investigation by going undercover at the collage. A gay frat house was suspected of smuggling exotic animals.
Rylee was the leader of the group house welcoming those who specially needed help specifically cat shifters coming from the other world.
