About the author

Tillie Cole is a Northern girl through and through. She originates from a place called Teesside on that little but awesomely sunny (okay I exaggerate) Isle called Great Britain. She was brought up surrounded by her mother -- a farmer's daughter, her crazy Scottish father, a savagely sarcastic sister and a multitude of rescue animals and horses.
Being a scary blend of Scottish and English, Tillie embraces both cultures; her English heritage through her love of HP sauce and freshly made Yorkshire Puddings, and her Scottish, which is mostly demonstrated by her frighteningly foul-mouthed episodes of pure rage and her much loved dirty jokes.
Having been born and raised as a Teesside Smoggie, Tillie, at age nineteen, moved thirty miles north to the 'Toon', Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where she attended University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in Religious Studies. She returned two years later to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching High School Social Studies. She regards Newcastle to be a home from home and enjoyed the Newcastle Geordie way of life for seven 'proper mint', 'lush' years.
Tillie, from a very young age has been part of the theatre community and loves nothing more than to entertain through the mediums of cheerleading, dance, drama and singing (sometimes in the rain). She can also be found in nightclubs around the world imitating her favourite artists alongside her crazy BFF’s - The Teesside Massive - or, sat on the front row at the theatre bopping along to her favourite musical, ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show ’, clad in a only a maids outfit, clutching a bag of rice and sporting a vibrant shade of red lipstick.
One summers day, after finishing reading her thousandth book on Kindle, Tillie turned to her husband and declared, "D'you know, I have a great idea for a story. I could write a book." Several months later, repeating the same tired line, she was scolded by her husband to shut up talking about writing a novel and 'just bloody do it!' Immediately she set off on a crazy journey, delving deep into her fertile imagination. Tillie, ever since, has written from the heart. She combines her passion for anything camp and glittery with her love of humour and dark brooding men (most often muscled and tattooed – they’re her weakness!).
After years of teaching high school Social Studies and following her Professional Rugby Player husband around Europe, they have settled in Calgary, Alberta where Tillie spends most of her days (and many a late night) lost in a writing euphoria or in her dream of pursuing a dazzling career as a barrel-racing, tasselled-chap, Stetson-wearing cowgirl... Ye-haw!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2017WOW Where do I start? I'm already a huge fan having read most of your books and A Veil of Vines did not disappoint. What a beautiful story. Although a little predictable I enjoyed the story thoroughly. A modern day fairy tale of sorts.
I highly doubt I can do justice to this review but I am going to try because this book is too good not to review. I think the least favorite part of the book is the beginning because it took place in New York but when Caresa arrived in Italy the book took on a whole new turn like traveling back in time. Caresa was destined to marry a prince that she had only met once in her childhood. Her prince, Zeno, was not much interested in marrying Caresa as Caresa was in marrying Zeno but she was doing it out of loyalty to her family. It was just amazing that these people live in a totally different world from the rest of the world. In an effort to keep Caresa away from him Zeno decided to put Caresa in the castle favored by his father, the king, in Umbria. The way Tillie wrote subtle hints throughout the book was wonderful and being familiar with her writing I knew to remember those hints that would bring the story together and in the end it all comes together as an 'AHA' moment. I'm not going into details so as not to spoil the story otherwise the reader will not enjoy the story as much.
As with all her books, Tillie's character development is complex and three dimensional. I could feel the love pouring out of Achille and Caressa and I shed so many tears for both of them throughout the book (sorry Tillie this was a tear jerker with a HEA). Zeno was a jerk but after reading the rest of the book you can understand the reason for his hostility. He was a lonely boy who was sent away from his family and best friend at a very early age. He didn't know love. Fortunately the turns that the story takes favor the entire cast and makes for a beautiful ending.
Achille, beautiful Achille. I shed many a tear for him alone throughout the book. Caresa was indeed his angel. Tillie's books never fail to address human issues that sometimes are so powerful they impact your life forever, this is the case for me with AVOV. Not going to say more but I do want to share my favorite quote in the book;
"What challenges us, what should break us, can in the end be our greatest blessing. Because our failures can make us great. Our most basic of human adversities can inspire within us an almost superhuman strength. Our weaknesses are simply our untested wings waiting to be flown."
Finally I don't want to leave this review without mentioning how I felt like I was actually in Italy reading this book. That is one of the reasons that I love to read. Authors like Tillie take us on trips that are amazing to beautiful lands. I am fortunate enough to have traveled to Italy, one of our stops was in Florence (Firenze) to visit the Duomo. The Duomo in Florence is spectacular, no words to actually describe it, the cathedral is so beautiful with the baptistery and museum surrounding it. We were fortunate enough to listen to mass in Latin while we were there so imagining a wedding there is a dream come true. The land as Tillie describe it is not over exaggerated. The depth of writing that Tillie has made the feel of the grapes and the vines tangible. You have to listen to the song Sogno by Andrea Bochelli when the book mentions it - the book will take on a whole new dimension - trust me!
Believe it or not, I usually have to brace myself when getting ready to read one of Tillie's books they are so powerful. Because of the subject matter some of her books are down right hard to read as in the Scarred Souls and The Hades Hangman Series but they are so worth it. Highly recommend this and all of Tillie's books.
Thank you Tillie!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2016'A Veil of Vines' is a lush and very sweet romance that will sweep you away to the vineyards of Italy. Yes, it is predictable but if you are looking to be lost in a book for a day or two, then this is the perfect story for you.
Caresa has always know that she would be married to an heir of the Savonas, a former royal family of Italy. A dutiful daughter, she agrees to travel to Italy to meet and then marry Zeno Savona, the dashing prince. Yes he is handsome and wealthy but Caresa's heart is not at all in the right place. Soon she meets Achille, the sweet, kind and gorgeous winemaker who lives on the Savanna's property.
Achille was not what I expected! Bravo to Ms. Cole for creating an unexpected hero. Shy and very humble, Achille creates some of the world's finest wine yet he is largely unaware of the acclaim his wine has achieved. Part forbidden love story and part sexy contemporary romance, 'Veil of Vines' is pretty much drama-free but does pack a solid emotional punch.
“Once you find that person, your ‘split-apart’, you are blanketed by such belonging, such desire, that you will never want to be without it. And they don’t want to be separated from one another, not even for a moment”
There are some heartbreaking moments in this book but all is well in the end. I appreciated the connect of this lovely romance and I loved the hero, Achille. This is actually one of my favorite of Tillie Cole's books so far.
“What challenges us, what should break us, can in the end be our greatest blessing."
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2016I've finished reading this book a couple of days ago, but I just didn't know what to write as a review. What do you say to perfection? How do you describe such mastrpiece in a simple review? I was rendered speechless after finishing this book. It was such a beautiful, heartwarming story that I didn't want to end.
I'm a huge fan of all Tillie's books, but this completely took me by surprise. It was so much different than her usual dark and gloomy style that I was in awe. I was amazed by this author's ability to put simple emotions in words and create such a vivid world which was so not what we are used to expect from her.
This story was like reading a modern version of a fairytale. I was totally mesmerized by the scenery, the way she described the land of Italy and so touched by the chaacter's emotions. I've never been to this part of Italy in my life, but I swear, while reading, I had the feeling I could touch the vines and smell the grapes...It was so realistic, I felt like I was the one moving in the rows of vines and touching the leaves. Those scenes left me breathless with the details everything was descibed. And don't let me start with the emotions of the characters.
I liked Caresa and her devotion to her family and tradition right from the start. She knew what she was getting herself into, but she was willing to do it to save the family business. She was extremely patient and somehow calm which are qualities I highly admire.
And then came Achille that absolutely stole my breath and amazed me with his pure heart and quiet personality. He was the complete opposite of every male character I've been reading lately and I was in love with him from the very beginning. He had overcome so much, yet he was so full of love, I thought my heart would come out of my chest while reading his emotions. I was a crying mess at several moments, reading his thoughts.
They were truly the match made in heaven <3
I loved this story cause it made me feel and experience like I was living along with them. The writing was exceptional. There were moments that I just stared at the words, cause they were so beautifully written, I simply couldn't believe one could put so much emotion in one sentence. But Tillie did and I could say this might be my favorite story of hers!
A Veil of Vines will leave you with a heart bursting with emotions and sweet feeling in your chest. This book will take you out of your everyday life and transport you in a parallel universe where the air smells of sweet grapes and the sun is warming the green grass and vines of the land of Italy. You would never want to come out of that heaven, like ever <3 Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern day fairy tale!
It might be that timing has something to do with my rating of this book. 2016 has been a year full of anger and hate and for the last book of the year I read to be a wonderful fairy tale was just what I needed.
I've loved all of Tillie's books so far. Her writing has a way of transporting you into the characters and with the Scarred Souls and Hades Hangmen series that was no easy thing to do. The detail and research that comes across in her writing seems to allow you to feel empathy in the most unimaginable of situations. When I first moved from those darker stories to A Thousand Boy Kisses I was absolutely delighted that she could just as easily lose me in that young adult.
With this one I really wasn't sure what to expect but once I started the sample I was hooked. There was something different in the writing style that made it feel different and had this modern fairy tale quality. The idea of this aristocracy was something I couldn't picture but she created it perfectly and created the perfect setting where you truly are transported to the gorgeous vineyards in the Umbrian countryside.
Of course, the book itself would not have made it to a five star with me without that thought provoking detail she always delivers. In this case it is with the philosophical writings of Plato that the book becomes something special. That dream that we all would love to believe in.
In summary, I absolutely loved it!!!
