A Vow of Blood and Tears Kindle Edition
Bane
Never did I dream that a woman would cry on our wedding night.
Ten years have passed since humans and vampires allied to defeat the wolves.
Now, to seal the covenant between our people and keep my throne, I must take a mortal bride.
But I’ve gone further than any vampire has gone before—become a fiend, a monster even among my own kind. No woman can lay eyes on me now without horror and fear.
When I first see her, I know I’ve doomed her. But she doesn’t scream in terror.
She fears not my face, but my bestial thirst.
Because of her courage, I will be the remorseless beast who keeps a beauty chained with vows.
And though I crave the taste of her blood…
I will fight the monster within to win her heart and soul.
Cirri
Never did I dream that a monstrous vampire would be the one to hear me.
Voiceless and ignored by the world, I was never considered good enough for anything beyond my indentured servitude—a silent, forgettable shadow.
Until my blood betrayed me.
Chosen by chance as a pureblood bride for the Lord of the Rift, I’ve been sold in marriage to a vampire more hideous than I could’ve imagined.
But despite his savage appearance, he tries to hear my silent words.
He alone learns to read the language of my hands.
He might be a beast, but there is beauty in his soul. For the sake of my people, I will spend a lifetime shackled to this monster…
But for the sake of his heart, I will make myself heard.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2025I freaking loved this book. I saw this recommended and added it to my TBR now I finally got around to reading it. Regret not doing it sooner.
This is not an fast burn between our fmc and mmc. I absolutely loved that it took some time and they built a pretty solid relationship first.
Our fmc is mute and her whole life she's been invisible and ignored. No one around her cared to try and learn sign language to be able to speak to her. Her new husband is the only one who has gone out of his way to try and learn it. He may look monstrous and terrifying but he's respected her boundaries and treated her well.
The wargs described were actually pretty terrifying. Like picturing them and their insatiable hunger. The absolute devastation they leave behind after an attack and the way they are created.
I'm really hoping there are more books written in this universe. The 3 other fiends definitely intrigued me. The possibility that the fae may still be out there and fae creatures/creations still live on in the Below.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2025This book is by far the best in Romantasy I've had the pleasure of reading in a long while. The characters are fleshed out. The world building is exceptional, and the plot is not propelled by devices of reclamations and misunderstanding. The main characters are emotionally intelligent and don't just act on suspicions and suppositions, but ask the questions needed to understand. This I appreciated so much...I cannot stand angsty misjudgments and long dawn out lamentations of misguided emotions. The relationship between the MCs was on the slow burn side, but Oh My! Did it smolder. This was not an insta-love (though I admit I adore fated mates) star-stuck full-frontal obsession. No, it began with hopeful trepidation, then progressed to friendship, then tentative dedication, then love. A love that blossomed and had layers, like their sacred Blood Roses. And I? I fell in love along with them. I hope Miss Corvin writes more on this couple and this world, or even just HEA for the other Characters. Though this book was free on KU, I am truly considering purchasing it for my permanent collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2025If you love an unconventional hero and relationship, this book is a gift. While the writing isn’t as poetic as Grace Draven’s Radiance, it gave me similar feels.
Cirri (25) is a strong, intelligent fmc, she is also mute. She reads and writes in multiple languages and communicates through sign language. Abandoned by her family at an early age because of her “defect” she has been an indentured servant all of her life.
Bane (80 ish) is a vampire Lord, but he elected to be permanently transformed into a fiend to protect his people. Basically, he’s a giant, terrifying, monster-like creature. *See below
“People of the Rift, welcome your Lady, Cirrien lai Darran, wife of Lord Bane Lifegiver.”
I loved the slow, steady growth of their blossoming relationship.
When she signs, “I see you, and you hear me.” I melted. She is able to see past his monstrous features, and he is able to understand her complicated language.

For nearly 700 pages, the story flows beautifully, I was never bored. The length allows the plot to unfold naturally.
The not so great.
-The bad guy was easy to spot.
-Why is this cover so bad?
-Why do so many books in this genre have the same type of titles?!
The drama around the 70% mark made sense, and I was relieved it wasn’t just another giant miscommunication trope. But the last 20% felt like a different story. Gruesome battle and tort¥re scenes, go in prepared.
And yet, after all that darkness, we get a strangely fluffy conclusion. A bit of a letdown, but overall, I still really enjoyed the journey.
*The hero isn’t human at all. He has split tongue, mouthful of sharp teeth, horns, long pointed ears, and a bat-like snout. His male appendage has barbs.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2025I usually never leave reviews, but this book was so incredible I had no choice. 'Romantasy' gets a lot of flack as a genre (a thing that women like? must be stupid lol 😑) and this book serves as a shining example of why these kinds of stories are so widely loved.
For starters, Cate Corvin is a masterful author. I was immersed from the first page - her talent and skill painted a perfectly clear picture of the world in which this story was set. Top-notch characterizations, considered and researched world-building, and effortless dialogue made this book a pleasure to read.
Cirrian was such a lovable, inspiring protagonist. She, along with every other character, felt fully realized and multi-dimensional. Bane tugged at my heartstrings with his guilt and sacrifice. I absolutely LOVED them together!
The smut was very classy (if you can use that descriptor for monster sex 😬) and never felt gratuitous. Not that I have a problem with that, mind you, but it matched the tone and rhythm of the story as a whole which is hugely impressive. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy, vampires, determined and relatable heroines.......and sexy times between monster-adjacent men and consenting ladies, of course. 😈
(P.S. Dear Ms. Corvin, if you happen to be reading this, I hope there are books in the works for the other three fiends! Wroth deserves happiness too 😥)

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
It's definitely a beauty and the beast kind of tale, but with enough of a spin to make it an interesting read and not predictable. I loved the characters. Cirri's internal dialogs were so interesting. They really warmed me to her, and the way her muteness is presented makes you understand her frustrations and the reactions other characters have to her. Bane was as promised, a mildly obsessed Gothic sweety of a love interest, and together, they made a really great, functional couple.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how you write a stong FMC
4/5🌶️
This is the best Beauty and the Beast retelling I've ever read. The writing really sync in with my brain and I just gobbled up the words. This is how you write a strong FMC! She's intelligent, a survivor and matured! She doesn't need to cuss every sentence to point out that no one can mess with her.. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story!
This was a stunning retelling of the beauty and the beast story. Well written and a standalone which makes a welcome change! Ciri, an indentured servant to the Silver Sisterhood is chosen by chance to marry Bane, a vampire who has been changed into a monster fiend to protect humans and vampires from the evil Wargs. Ciri has been mute from birth and has always been treated as unseen and yet Bane finally sees her as his equal and endeavours to treat her with respect. Their slow burn love story warms the heart as they each come to realise what they mean to each other. There is no games in this thank goodness only two people who are intelligent and see each other for who they are and not what they are. The amazing finale battle against the Wargs is fantastic! The side characters in this are so well thought out too with the bloodwitch Wyn and her warrior wife Visca. Loved this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Big Romantasy Series!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot - 5/5
Characters - 5/5
Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC for A Vow of Blood and Tears and was blown away by the story.
AVOBAT is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with our Vampire/Beast MMC, Bane, as he enters a political marriage with Human, Cirri, a mute girl who was hoping to become a librarian and is quickly forced into the marriage arrangements by her sisterhood.
Bane and Cirri are adorable together and demonstrate such strong character growth throughout the book. Cirri becomes besotted with her husband despite his appearance and it was so heartwarming
to see the trust and bond between the two of them grow as the story continued.
A Vow of Blood and Tears is perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and the Live action Beauty and the Beast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally mature, beautiful story!
What’s this now? A book where the FMC and MMC actually communicate like adults? Where the FMC is level-headed, genuinely kind, and the love between the characters feels deep and real? Yes, please! This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a Romantasy — a story with healthy relationships, emotionally mature characters, and no unnecessary drama. The writing was artful, the characters were beautifully developed, and the love story was everything. This book reminded me what true love can look like on the page. I’m not sure I’ll find another quite like it. Absolutely stunning. Well done. My only suggestion is to change the cover!
