A Ring of Promises: Historical Fiction Romantic Adventure Saga Inspired by a True Story Kindle Edition
Can love survive the separation of an ocean and the unfulfilled promises of a new life in the New World?
Century-old letters found in an attic reveal the 1912 story of Will, a lowly footman to an Earl in England, and Janet, a nanny to a Lord and Lady in the Highlands of Scotland. They knew their hearts but were separated by distance and duty: Will in England, Janet in the Highlands of Scotland. Desperate to find a way to be together, Will gives up everything he knows and sets sail to find a new home with only $25 in his pocket and a dream. The expected short separation was not to be.This gripping and heartfelt story traces their journeys, in back-and-forth chapters between Canada and the Highlands of Scotland, as they struggle with the help of Janet’s sister Mary Ann, to overcome the obstacles threatening their dreams.
Inspired by a true story, this Historical Fiction Saga was described as “unputdownable” by Digital Arts and Entertainment Reporter, Margaret Chrystall of Highland News and Media, Scotland.
Literary Titan review states: “A Ring of Promises is a romance novel that transcends genres and offers readers much more depth and emotion than your typical love story. Time and distance play an integral role in Gage's work. The author keeps romance alive with Janet and Will. Not many books maintain the integrity of the characters' love and dedication like this one.”

I highly recommend A Ring of Promise to any fan of historical romances that are steeped in emotion and focused on true love conquering all. Gage's work is genuine and serves as an example of what tenderness and courage can accomplish together. A Ring of Promises certainly surpasses my expectations of a historical fiction romance.

During this difficult period, we experience a chain of connected events that includes, a strength of promises, abiding love, immigration to a new country, unimaginable tragedy, and continuous adventures.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2020This is a story of many wonderful and sometimes heart wrenching adventures . From the time Will left his lady love Janet back in Scotland for an adventure in the harsh Canadian wilderness, I eagerly followed their lives through this engaging story not wanting to put it down. Many surprises, some happy and some sad but I truly enjoyed this read and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
This is a really enjoyable novel which manages to includes many factual details. For anyone with relatives in Canada it gives an insight into the difficult and sometimes perilous journeys our ancestors took in search of a better life. Marie has obviously done a lot of research and has cleverly woven in her findings, including poems written by her grandfather to her grandmother, to make a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A romantic adventure to fill the summer hours
The book captured me from the very first-page painting pictures in my mind that made the pages come to life. I love the way the author took me back in time to an easier age. All the characters are rich and very likeable. I was brought to tears with some of the stories. Marvelling at the adventure as the story continues. For her first book, the author found a way to bring the pages to life. I think this story is my new favourite. Congratulations Marie Gage on a job well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canada - An Immigration Story
This story, based in part on the Author's family history, is a tantalizing look at Canadian life prior to WW1. The skillful blend of fact and fiction tells several stories of love, heartache, joy and friendship, a story of hardship and deprivation in the Canadian wilderness, and epic adventures in a canoe . I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well researched history and great details.
First I must say that I live in the same area as the author, and have talked with her at a number of events, but this review was not requested and the book was purchased, not gifted to me.
A Ring of Promise by Marie Gage is good. It is a first novel and does have some problems, but they are not significant enough to detract from the story. Character development is well done, and there is an abundance of fine detail.
For a self-published novel, the book is well edited although not perfect. Still, a number of the problems are things that only someone familiar with the craft of writing would identify. There are a couple of lines where I was pushed out of the story because of punctuation and POV issues, but there are also a number of beautiful lines. ‘A kiss so sweet the memory alone left its taste on her lips’ is one example.
At first I was disappointed with the lack of emotional involvement I felt with the story, but closer to the end I actually teared up in a number of places.
I recommend this novel to anyone who likes romance and historical settings.
