Arrows and Apologies (Monsters & Muses Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 4,624 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author Sav R. Miller comes a dark opposites attract romance inspired by the myth of Apollo and Daphne.
Mayor Alistair Wolfe had one job: hire a new assistant.

Preferably, someone who would look good in the position and not cause any scandals. At least, that’s what the criminals funding his career want.

He definitely wasn’t supposed to blackmail his one-night stand into working for him. Especially considering that she’s a blue-haired, tattooed thief with an attitude.

Cora Astor wasn’t looking for a relationship. She wasn’t even really looking for a job, but having an in with the mayor of the island where her brother went missing seemed like a good idea.

She didn’t expect her new boss to be the hot, British stranger she hooked up with the night before her interview, or for him to be so brazen with his desires. Now, despite her disdain for the dirty politician, she’s entwined their lives so tight that escape seems unlikely.

Not that he’d let her go without a good chase.

**Arrows and Apologies is a dark, contemporary romance inspired by the Apollo and Daphne myth. It is NOT fantasy or a retelling. See author's website for full content warning list. Reader discretion is advised.**

Arrived in decent shape
It arrived in decent shape. Has a ding on the corner of the spine and has a bit of warp to it. Also there's the section of the book that looks like it got left open on for an extended period of time, but there then that it's in great shape

When Cora’s brother goes missing everyone assumes he died but she can feel in her soul that he’s still out there. On her last night before going to search for him a stranger catches her stealing but instead of turning her in they have a sizzling one night stand in an alley. When she arrives on Aplana Island to start her search she realizes her new boss, Mayor Wolfe, is that stranger. Can she keep her focus on finding her brother or will her new boss be too much of a distraction?

Note: the first half of this book overlaps with the second half of book three. The art gala scene is present in both books and is where the timeline picks up from where we ended in book three.

Honestly shocked that I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I am not a big fan of standalone series because I get too invested in the couple from the previous book to enjoy the new couple but Sav writes them so well that I read two, three and four back to back and still throughly enjoyed EVERY couple. I think it’s helps that she doesn’t put the previous couples in the next books that much, they’re present but they don’t pull focus and make you more curious about what the old couple is up to rather than the current couple. I know some people love to stay in the same universe with different characters but I STRUGGLE to move on especially when the last couple is very much a part of the plot which tends to negatively impact my opinion of the next book.

I hated Alistar in Oaths and Omissions, I thought he was a heartless douchebag and the fact that he’s coming out near the top of my list of the men from this series says a lot. I love dirty talking, possessive, goes after what they want men and he did not disappoint. I hate to rank the men of this series because they are all fantastic and I love them each dearly for different reasons but Alistar and Aiden win by far in the spicy, dirty talk, makes my knees weak category. No shade to the other two, I think my favorite is actually Jonas, but those two make me feel some type of way with their words.

Cora was super cool and I actually like how twisted and connected this series has become. Cora is Violet’s cousin who is Kal’s half sister from book one. Alistar is Jonas’ brother from book three and then Jonas’ fiancee, Lenny, and Kal’s wife, Elena, will have their siblings as the focus of book five (I know because I cheated and looked). There are time jumps from book one to book four and the family tree, so to speak, is a bit twisted so I had to write it all down.

I’m also really big on knowing ages because I don’t mind an age gap but I prefer when the girl is at least of age to be mature enough for a significant age gap. My preference is when they’re out of college, so typically 23+, because I don’t think most grown men (35+) share actual commonalities with college aged women, no matter how “mature” they are. This is the biggest age gap with Cora being 23 and Alistair 36 so it was a bit of a push for me but it was a lot better than in book one where Kal started seeing Elena before she could legally drink. It’s weird because I find it a lot more triggering when there’s an age gap with a 20/21 year old than with a 23/24 year old. Which is why Kal and Elena’s relationship bothered me more than Alistar and Cora’s despite having a smaller age gap.

OVERALL: I loved this one, it didn’t rely on the other books to hold it up or provide drama to drive the plot. It had its own individuality and the main couple vibed really well together.

    | dark romance | politics | mafia | dual POV | SPICY | antihero | alpha | breeding kink | touch her and die | pet companion | claiming | secrets | missing person | one night stand | workplace romance | bosshole |

This series just gets better and better. I have been a fan of every book in this series so far, I mean if you like/love dark romance, you will eat this series up.

There is always some kind of danger, some unknown enemy, and so much sassy spicy smut. Sav R. Miller has no problem giving it to you in both quality and quantity. There is no shortage of spice, and Alastair’s particular brand? Yum. Like right on the money for me.

This author also frequently writes FMC’s who appear to be meek, or in general underestimated. However, when things get turned upside down, these women are no damsel in distress.

I think the characters in this entire series have been strong. They each have something, some trauma, history, or down fall and they all grow as they find love. They realize things about themselves and those around them. In terms of character development, you will find that there is so much growth to be had in these stories.

There are some overlaps, cameos if you will. The characters of previous books often find themselves overlapping in some way, be it minor or major, with the characters of the current book. I love when this happens because it makes the world stronger, and it also gives insight on the future of those characters. It gives them a space to continue existing long after their love story ends.

I love this series, and I have become quite a fan of the author. With no doubt in my mind I can confidently say i’ll give anything Sav R. Miller writes a thorough read. I’ll probably buy it for my shelf because I love the design, texture, and layout of the physical books.

Great read, I highly recommended this series for fans of dark romance with mafia ties. For this book, if you like alpha bossholes who are into claiming and breeding, you’re gonna want to get into this one.

    Happy Reading Friends xx

This is the best book i have read recently. The whole series is just 🤌🏼 but mayor Wolfe and his nymph had taken the 1st spot with promises and pomegranates. The chemistry, the love, the obsession. Just amazing.

Please read the triggers prior to reading!

Sav has done it again. Everytime she releases a book I can't help but devour them: and this was no different. As always, I've loved the Greek inspiration.

For me, the story had the perfect balance of plot and smut, I couldn't put it down. I love Cora and Alistair as individual characters and as a ship.
Cora will how hold a special place in my heart, as with all the badass muses Sav as written; yet again I find myself connecting to them on so many levels.

And I just have to say the same for Alistair, he was complex (in my humble opinion) but hooking. A gentleman, yet sexy as hell.

I wholeheartedly recommend this series, and I cannot wait for book 5!

The fourth instalment in the Monster and Muses series and inspired by Greek mythology, A&A does not disappoint! Sav has created this world and these characters that just pull me in and I cannot get enough!

As always, we get a great balance of plot and some next level spice (pro tip: find a man who isn’t afraid to play with toys 😘). And Let’s just say this book definitely starts with a bang 🤭

Let’s be honest, we all love a man obsessed 😍 and to say Mayor Wolfe, the ruthless hunter, is obsessed with our girl Cora would be an understatement. Our British, dirty talking mayor may just be my favourite MMC in the series so far 😮‍💨

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆’𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒙𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒖𝒍, 𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒔.“

Alistair and Cora’s relationship was absolute 🔥 from the get go. His darkness, her sass and the tension and chemistry 🙌🏼

“𝑰 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒔—𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒍-𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒄.“

The plot was good, I predicted the plot twist pretty early on but it didn’t take away from the overall experience of reading this book!
And unsurprisingly I loved catching up with some of our favourite characters from the series 🥹

And honourable mention to the real star of the show - Laurel 🐕🥰
