After Hours: Book 1 in The Hours Duet Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 757 ratings

One confirmed concussion and several insults was not how I planned to impress my boss.

Decorating his shoes with vomit wasn’t either.

And now he despises me.

With each new dig and glare that passes between us, tension spirals.

It’s lust disguised as hate.

A force neither of us can deny.

We agreed to a night, and he begged for the weekend. But somewhere between right and wrong, all bets were off.

The rules don’t apply when it’s after hours.

It was a good idea until it wasn’t.

Because when the world is watching you fall in love with your boss, you’re in plain view of his enemies.

Firstly, I can't Love this book enough... i didnt want it to end!! Cain is such an arrogant, deep, and hard man who screams power and dominance. He gets what he wants, all the time, everytime. So when Lauren steps into his world, her finger-pointing and filthy mouth, she tips his world into an unknown territory.. he starts to have emotion, emotions unknown to him, which he fights against, and he fights hard, because he can't lose track of what he is out to achieve.. vengeance. So Lauren is a distraction.. he doesn't know how to navigate this new relationship. But he cant stop it from happening. Their relationship forms, and she is so giving of herself, even after what has happened to her. She started to trust him again. Their love blooms - with obstacles of course.. but with amazing friendships formed, they get through a lot... until they don't💔
I have to admit, my heart pinched with hurt quite a few times, for both Lauren and Cain, and yes there were tears😭 Thankfully their story ends happily.❤  and I feel whole again.
Even though Cain was a cactus, he redeemed himself🌵😁🤗 can't wait for the next book in the series "Stolen Hours". Thank you A.R Thomas for another gripping, heart-melting story that I couldn't put down.

This book had a really good start and I was convinced I was going to absolutely love it. The back and forth was good but I was expecting a bit more in terms of the transitions to lovers.

Lauren finds her (at the time) boyfriend with her best friend. Humiliated and hurt her solution is to run to London to start fresh. Her ex-boyfriends father blackmails her to stay away. Having had a fresh start she begins working at a luxury hotel. One morning she gets into an accident at work and ends up concussed and after receiving and offensive comment from Cain and giving him a piece of her mind she ends up fired.

At first she wants her job back but after a while she realizes that she can get another job with her extensive resume. Cain is unable to stop thinking about Lauren and his desire for her. Frustrated that she works for him and he has a non-fraternization policy at work he can’t help but be a prick to her. When he sees that his friend is also interested in her he decides that he just wants one night with her which then turns into a weekend and then they say goodbye.

He reminds her how much of a prick he his and leaves London until he realizes that he wants her and returns. He makes promises and an attempt to keep her while fighting to earn back his birthright (which was stolen from him). Everything seemed to be going good until his relationship with Lauren comes to light and he ends up being targeted and Cain realizes that he shouldn’t be with her because he’s the reason she has this target on her back.

Once again he leaves her and this time she doesn’t take him back right away.

The drama was good although the blackmail material her ex-boyfriend father had was meh it was mentioned briefly and then that was that. I thought it would have an impact on the plot but it didn’t. The spicy scenes were good nothing too spicy.

Would I read the next book in the series….maybe just to see how the secondary characters end up.

I really enjoyed the back and forth between Cain and Lauren. And I loved Cain. He is a jerk, a massive Cacti if you will, but I love him. There were so many things in the end that I didn’t see coming. Hands down I would recommend this to anyone. It’s not overly spicy but the spice is good. Did I mention I love Cain?

This felt like two people forced into a relationship despite having nothing in common. Why? Because the author used a color-by-numbers blueprint for their characters.
There were some good things; the protagonist (apart from her relationship issues) is pretty good and the hotel setting as a workplace was fine. However, the love interest, their friends, and the whole relationship dynamic needed more thought. The balance was completely off. No one was looking out for Lauren's interests. They all put Cain first.
As other readers have pointed out, Cain's apology was half-hearted at best, everything was for his benefit and he disregarded the emotional trauma Lauren had suffered except to say, "She's lost weight!" several times. To compound matters, everyone - yes, I mean including her doctor (is that even ethical?), told her to forgive him and get back together.
Toxic, gaslighting friend set and an emotionally immature love interest.

Quick read, with spicy and swoon worthy moments 🥵. To have a fresh start from her cheating ex-boyfriend, Lauren moves to London. Lauren makes a hell of a first impression on her boss by puking on his shoes. Cain tries to hide his feelings and lust for Lauren by being the prick 🌵 that he is. I love the chemistry between the two. And so so so much TENSION. I loved reading their moments together and how possessive he is of her. The way he protects her from the scrutiny that comes from dating him; it makes you want to keep reading and never stop. The friendships between all the main characters and side characters were amazing to watch knowing they had each other to lean on. My heart was ripped to pieces when he walked away from her but gotta give it to Ms. A for putting my heart back together in the end. Can’t wait for book 2.

I really love a messy hero and Cain delivered! His and Lauren’s chemistry was undeniable from the very beginning. I loved the subtle ways he took care of her and I loved how she showed him all the reasons he should love himself! Amazing, amazing, amazing! I’m anxiously awaiting the next story in The Hours Series!

Wouldnt read it twice, but main characters are well developped, described and relatable (despite the millionnaire thing that I cant personnaly relate to, unfortunately, haha), some passages are beautifully written, some dialogues in my humble opinion were a teeny tiny bit forced for the purpose of following the story and the book not becoming 700 pages long, but, all in all, that was very good. Will look for more work from this author!

Cain and Lauren meet in the most awkward way imaginable. They fall hard but don't want to admit it at first. But there's the - no romantic business at the workplace - rule. Cain finally caves and then their story develops. Get ready for a heart-rending love-story with a hea and thank you for the epilogue.

    *ARC REVIEW*

This book was so much more than I thought it could be in the best possible way!!

Cane is and Lauren have one of the most awkward introductions and that one things has their lives changing in a way that neither of them could have prepared for.

Cane’s story was so heartbreaking to read, reading everything that he had been through in his life gripped my heart.
Lauren had been through her own heartbreak too and she had made such a sacrifice, her strength shone through from the start.

The chemistry between these two was intense and I loved every minute of it!

The emotions I went through near the end had me all messed up in a way I wasn’t prepared for at all, but it was worth it all.

This book made me laugh and cry (which is hard for a book to do) and made me feel just about every other emotion in between.

I very highly recommend this book! I absolutely loved it and I didn’t want it to end.
