- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2022I really enjoyed this book. Excellent character development. Lots of twists. Agatha Christie style mystery. Great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2025Good read! Twists and turns. Just when I thought I thought I'd figure it out it twisted. A bevy of gay characters. Not my thing but well written !
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2024What a great kickoff to a thriller/mystery series! I definitely want to see more of Colin Buxton and, hopefully, his theater producer boyfriend, Lee. Despite Colin being a cop, this had the feel of a cozy because he was a young rookie, so he was still learning the ropes, and in this particular story, he was stranded in a situation where he didn't have any backup and had to figure out everything on his own with very few people to trust.
It’s refreshing to see an LGBTQplus character take the lead of a detective series and to include the real-life struggles that would face them in such a position. Excellent, real representation in an entertaining format, and some surprises along the way as well. But what's equally impressive is our young, vibrant, gay detective is almost boring compared to the zany cast of characters he's forced to contend with when his vacation goes horribly wrong. This cast, along with Colin's experience level, elevated the cozy feel.
I really enjoyed the setting. While it took place on an entire island, it took the essence of a locked-room mystery because of spoilers!!! The action didn't cease, and the author did a great job of building tension between the characters and using flashbacks and the weather to weave more in and out.
Despite mostly being actors, all of the characters were distinct and identifiable. I often have a hard time keeping up with a lot of characters, but this had just the right amount to be interesting but not confusing. The mystery was well thought out and presented. I was tricked by the twists and turns right up until the end. I figured out one here and there but didn't figure everything out until the big reveal.
I'm so grateful to the authors and LBT for including me on this tour! Can't wait to read the next one!
If you enjoy a good thriller/cozy crossover, I believe you’ll enjoy this. I don’t know if that’s what this is technically, but as a pretty avid reader of both, I give it my stamp of approval! It’s got elements of both and kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting more until the end. I needed to know who did it, and I was invested in what was happening to the characters. I can’t say more about a cozy or a thriller.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2024So this book started out kinda slow for me and I was a little confused at first but the more I got into the story the more I fell in love with it. I loved the setting of Scotland and to be stuck in a storm like that and then have a murder happen ?! I loved how everyone in the group was hiding something at some point. I absolutely loved PC Collin Buxton and can I just say how cute him and his boyfriend were together? I really had no idea who did what and I was really on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out. I couldn't even figure out who was going to be murdered !! This was a really well written book and I really hope this is the start of a series !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling whodunnit with a small cast.
Colin Buxton is having a few days holiday on a remote Scottish island while rehearsals are due to take place for a theatre play. As the weather closes in and communications are cut off, will he manage to find the killer?
I really enjoyed this book, the characters were well written and each of them had enough of a back story to make them all plausible suspects. Add in some atmospheric descriptions of the weather, island and castle and you’ve got a great tale. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Whodunnit with modern twist
The authors cleverly set up a murder mystery in a classic way by having a group of potential murderers - all of whom have a motive -in a setting where both they, and the victim are trapped. The twists and turns of the plot maintained reader's interest throughout and the characterisation, particularly the way in which the relationship between the central characters was drawn, was never less than convincing. A great read and a terrific debut novel!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot, but unlikeable characters
Rather a slow start, but a good build up. The setting on a remote Outer Hebridean island was somewhat implausible. The plot was intricate and left slightly hanging in the air. I'd have given the story a higher star rating if it hadn't been for the characters, most of whom were difficult to like or empathise with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommend
All mine enemies by CC Gilmartin.
The Colin Buxton Series Book 1.
I did enjoy this book. I liked the cover. I wasn't sure how I felt about the characters. As i read on, i did like Colin and Lee. We have Kath, Georgie, Lawrence, Peter, Colin, Lee, Jim, and Richard. Although I really didn't like Lawrence at all. In the first part, where we are learning about the characters, I did find it slow. I did love the remote island setting. I could picture the storm coming in. I was right in who the first victim was. I had a theory about who it was. But as I read on, there were more suspects. This was very twisty and gripping. I definitely did not see that coming. I'm looking forward to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book
