Amarah (World of Linaria Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

‘This treasure’ll make us richer than any Goldstone. All the sky pirates in Estoria, Val Sharis, heck, in all of Linaria would be on their way here if they knew where here was.’

With rampaging dragons and marauding Arillians dominating Linaria’s skies, Amarah’s quest for vengeance against the one who took everything from her seems almost impossible.

When a treasure hunt with a former ally leads to the discovery of a lost Varkain artefact, she’s plunged into the middle of an ancient war between Sevastos dragons, Varkain blood magic, and those who crave these powers for themselves.

Amarah wanted revenge. What she uncovers will change the face of Linaria forever.

Return to a realm in turmoil in the World of Linaria - Book Three.

I enjoy the characters and the storyline. It is unique and has significant feeling in the way it is being told. I will continue to read the series.
The book would be a 5 for me but there is a fair bit of repetition.

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

I love L.L. McNeil’s World of Linaria series, but do have to confess that this is not my favourite book in the series, partly because Amarah is not one of my favourite characters (of which there are many!) and partly because this feels very much like a ‘middle book’ in terms of plot and pacing.

All the gang are still on their own individual paths and following their separate goals. Amarah has gone back to a bit of pirating, while still hoping to help Moroda and get revenge on Jato for her recent injuries; Palom is doing a few smithing and bodyguarding odd jobs whilst learning how to train his dragon; Sapora is searching for ancient, forgotten power; Morgen is working on new skills in the hope he can undo past mistakes; and Isa and Kohl are trying to decide where their loyalties lie.

All of these routes lead to exciting goals, but it is not yet time for them to reach those climactic points, so this is the bit of the story where they move around and work towards their aims, but without really achieving much, which makes the pace feel a little slow. That said, there is lots of fascinating worldbuilding detail and more character development for all the main players, and the suspense and tension are building up nicely towards the future instalments – I can’t wait to hear from Isa, Kohl and Morgen… I wonder if Sapora will get a volume too?

I definitely recommend reading this series in order. If you are a fan of epic fantasy, dragons and rich worldbuilding and haven’t discovered Linaria yet, then you’re in for a treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you haven't read The World of Linaria yet, you are missing out!

    4.5 Rounded up

Amarah was a delightfully meaty edition to The World of Linaria, again expanding the world, heightening the stakes and providing a multitude of action packed adventure only this motley crew knows how to deliver.

Amarah has agreed to help and old ally in an insane task in hopes to free her fallen friend and take revenge on a powerful Arillian who has done her wrong. Luckily, she is the best at what she does and sees no problem in earning a little gold on the way to her goals.

The political instability between the Varkain and Ittallan grows as the new King Sepora seeks out the Ancient Arks. Believing these ancient and dangerous Gods will grant him the power he needs to bring peace to Linaria and not minding how much blood must be shed to unleash them. The Ittallans have had enough, and they are ready to rise, putting Princess Isa on the throne is the only way to ensure their safety. Familial relations are all that is holding this world together, and they are at breaking point.

Sensing unrest, Morgen needs to hold his own. No longer will be sit by and watch the world crumble around him. Heading to Berel he is determined to find out all he can about the ancient magic Ra, but he must remember to play by the rules.

Macrae continues to build upon this magnificent world by gifting the reader a deeper look into different political layouts of the countries of Linaria, expanding the lore of the magics and giving the characters a chance to shine.

This series has been such a highlight of my reading year! I cannot wait to continue on with Isa in the coming months .. then impatiently wait for book 5 with the rest of the world! I can already see a re-read coming on, and that is something I don't do very often! If you haven't picked up The World of Linaria yet, you are missing out!

The story ramps up even further in this installment - ancient creatures, magical arts, and of course more sky-pirating! This book IS called Amarah after all!

Who read the previous parts of the saga will not be disappointed. It is as good as Moroda or Palom or even better. Strongly recommend to everyone who likes magic, dragons and fantasy.
