- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDefenseless Hearts was an easy 5/5 read—Meagan Brandy never misses! The beginning starts off a little slow, and yes, you’ll probably want to strangle Kenra at times, but trust me, it’s all part of the ride. Their story is messy, emotional, and so worth sticking around for.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAfter falling in love with Parker, the MMC in Fumbled Hearts, I couldn't wait to dive into this book to read more about him and his story. While it was a good story with all the emotions and HEA, I did feel frustrated with Kenra, the FMC, at times and felt like it dragged just a tiny bit with the constant back and forth.
I loved Parker's friendship with Kalani and was glad to see more of them and their wholesome relationship here again. Our hero really had to wait and struggle for his own HEA, tho lol. It's wasn't easy and broke our hearts along the way, but it was worth it in the end. There were times I wanted to give Kenra a good shake to knock some sense into her, but she was also a beautifully flawed character who worked for her redemption.
The writing was great and kept you engaged and hooked and you feel all the feels. Definitely worth the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMeagan Brandy completely wowed me with Fumbled Hearts, Book #1 of the Tender Hearts Series. While you don’t have to read the first book to follow the beautiful storyline in Defenseless Hearts, I highly recommend you do. I can guarantee you will fall in love with these characters right from the start, no doubt wanting more of them all!
Oh Parker, my Parker. You have stolen my heart and I’m not sure I will ever be the same ❤❤❤
I could not WAIT to get more of Parker after falling in love with him in Fumbled Hearts. He is everything and more, this sweet man. He is honest, he is selfless and has a heart of gold. He is patient, kind and downright sexy too boot! The way he takes care of the ones he loves set my heart on fire. Parker didn’t have an easy upbringing and I admire how he’s trying to make a good life for himself. There is no doubt you will be enamored with Hero from page one and want nothing but the very best for him. So, is his Nightingale the best girl for him?
It broke my heart to watch Parker pine for the one girl he can’t have. Time and time again, he was there for her and circumstances continued to keep them apart. Parker believed in love and knew in his heart that he would not be complete without her. I loved Parker so much, I had to have faith in the choices he made where she was concerned. It wasn’t an easy journey, but one he was determined to stick with. It was clear she loved Parker, but some circumstances were beyond her control. It was not always easy, that’s an understatement, to accept the choices she made. But in the end, her decisions were made with Parker in mind and her heart.
#OneClicking Defenseless hearts is a no-brainer. There were some twists and turns I didn’t see coming, but only intensified this angsty love story. Meagan will pull you in with her fabulous storytelling and keep you coming back for more! Let's not forgot about the beautiful book cover here, you cannot deny this is the perfect Parker. I cannot wait to see what Meagan has in store for us next.

Poor Parker. That was my final thought upon finishing this book. I had been so excited to jump into Parker's book. His story was a complete letdown.
Where was the romance? The only real meaningful moment of romance was the fortune cookie/ carousel scene. Now, that was a beautiful moment that allowed me to experience their potential as a real couple. However, it ended up being just a tease of sorts. Bummer, too. Thought I might actually have a tangible reason to root for them. Nope!
This was essentially a tale of woe. They are both pinning for each other for almost the entire book. Depressing with very little reward - that's the best way to sum it up.
And I'm just gonna say it... I did not like Kenra. She took way too long to grow anything close to a backbone. Even her inner monologues held no real hints of inner strength. I understand she is sacrificing and, therefore, supposed to be a type of 'unsung hero'. It just didn't work for me. Something about the way it was conveyed throughout the book felt like a surface-level presentation.
This book was so incredibly tedious to sit through. All that forlorn bs with only tiny crumbs of romance is not gonna cut it, imo. I think I might actually be a wee bit miffed, lol. Ugh, I'd consider this a complete waste of my time had it not been for the lead-ins to The Boys of Avix. I'm glad I held off reading Say You Swear. I'll have more of a foundation before starting that series. That's a plus, at least, I suppose.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely loved it
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOmg this book was incredible. So full of angst and I just kept wishing for the, to get it together! I can’t believe what a devious scumbag kellan and his mother were and Parker’s mum. How parents act to their kids make me sick. I’m so so glad that everything worked out with these too. I felt the pure love they had and couldn’t freely give. Kenra took on so so much and I can’t believe her parents were so easily fooled by the nonsense spouted by kellan. How other people could see she wasn’t 100% and they didn’t think anything was wrong and just took his word for stuff. I loved the friendship group with these guys and how everything works with them. Incredible book

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Parker
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is sooo good, I couldn’t put it down I ended up staying up until 3am just so I could finish, I needed to know how it ended! Defenceless Hearts had me hooked from page one until the very end, I loved every moment.
The angst, drama, intrigue, family loyalty along with the love is what makes this such an epic read.
Kenra has slowly become a shell of her former self, but the strength she has to keep going and do whatever she has to to keep her family and loved ones safe is what had me love her so much.
Parker is selfless, careing, loyal and willing to give anything the the girl he loves the strenght she needs even if it leaves him broken.
I love how Parker is able to give Kenra strengh and bring her back to herself and pull her out of the depression she deals with.
I cannot wait to see the read the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reread this after reading SYS… and Wow
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHero! He’s lovely and even when I hate love triangles, I sort of think that Parker was not in love with Lolli… but he loved her as family.
I love that he ends with a Moore (:

A cereja no bolo azedo vem infelizmente do Parker.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally enjoyed this one. Was an easy read, and relatively quick too. I’m just a big fan of Meagan Brandy.
