Super Starrella (Secret Supers Book 1) Kindle Edition
The quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky attitude and a mind of her own.
Back home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but who can she trust: handsome Captain Copper from military intelligence, or hunky Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but falling in love is not in their plans.
Alien superpowers, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling adventure.

Prepare to have a fabulous time!"

5 out of 5 stars: Unique and engaging
"I really enjoyed reading this story. It was unique, engaging and easy to read.
I loved the main character, as she was a very interesting heroine and wasn't whiny like a lot of teenage characters are in young adult books, but her companion Rockette was my favorite character. I mean, who couldn't love a talking horse that can also turn into a pigeon at will. The supporting characters were also excellent, especially all of the animals. If you like the His Dark Materials trilogy, you'll love this book."

There is plenty of space in the ideas to make room for a series. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I recommend this book to any superhero fanatic. It maybe a YA book but it’s quite good.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a story about a 17-year old girl grew new powers and was teamed with a horse who grew wings. It was quite interesting seeing the girl develop an understanding of her unique "super power".
Estelle, the 17-year old, is a freshman in college with 2 young men having an interest.
The major problem with one of the guys is he is a Captain in the military with a Masters degree; both indicators (Captain and Masters) imply one is 23 years old. Somehow, the Captain should not really have an active interest in a 17 year old. Maybe the author should change the rank from Captain to Second Lieutenant, so the age difference is more palatable.
Mom still has a problem with her little girl growing up which adds some interesting situations for Estelle who seems to mature and learns how to deal with it.
As Starrella (the comic book heroine name selected by Estelle), she participated In several battles with giants insects and developed a confidence for her new skills.
The story line is good and enjoyable. The series looks promising.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAurora Springer has taken me for a surprise in this adorable jaunt.
Poor Estelle. What 17 yr old wants to be name Estelle?
Worse yet, she and a pony that’s not actually hers go trotting off into danger and boy does she find it. (danger…she knows where the pony is.)
She kind of gets blown up, but not to worry. An alien race has been living on Earth and they’ve got just the thing to make her better than ever. That’s right. Estelle gets a ‘super power’ and her pony gets wings. And being a lovely young woman, she’s more than willing to do her share to stop the villain who is enlarging insects so they can kill humans.
I mean seriously, imagine a giant praying mantis eating off your head….
Throw in two young men vying for her attention…or not. Depending on the moment. And you’ve got a story much better than Supergirl’s.
I had a great time through this book and hope we might get to have more of these charming adventures. It was the perfect book for a quick afternoon read.

I really liked this book. It is definitely sci-fi, but it's a light one and appropriate for any age. It lacked a bit of depth. I wish we could have gotten into Toby's head. The story focused on Estelle, which is fine, but we get get glimpses into Mark and even the Farleon leader, but never Toby and he is one I want to hear from. Some of the character reactions was a bit unbelievable. Estelle doesn't freak out when she is told some information, almost like it was common knowledge. There seems to be little to no adjustment period with her abilities, her horse, or the aliens. What changes Toby's mind about a relationship? Why doesn't she get introduced to the other supers. Perhaps these questions will be answered later. Overall, a good, clean and lighter story.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAn enjoyable fun and light hearted entertaining story filled with lots of adventure, interesting characters, monsters and bad guys.
The reader follows Estelle- who changes her name to becomes Starrella - as she receives and learns how to use her new and unique super powers. She then tries to do the right thing by helping others.
The adventures of Estelle/Estrella can be quite fun and hilarious at times and this holds the reader's attention as the story progresses.
A fun and enjoyable book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supergirl on a winged horse
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMy first instinct when I picked up this book was that the title sounded like something from a kid's comic. Actually, I was absolutely right! The story's heroine steals her superhero monicker from a superhero she liked as a child, after she develops superpowers following a strange green explosion. More interestingly, so does her horse, which grows wings (not much of a spoiler, as the winged horse is on the cover of the book!), and an entertainingly snarky attitude, and who is definitely (in my view) the stand-out element of the book.
Estelle, the heroine, finds herself caught up in the middle of a conflict in the city of Atalanta, which is effectively Metropolis or whichever other US superhero city you care to imagine. She also finds herself in the middle of a romantic triangle, with two very different but good-looking young men vying for her attention.
This is very much a teenager “coming of age” story, but on that level it works well, with enough twists to keep it entertaining. The villain is a little two-dimensional for my tastes, and is rather too willing to spout the sort of bombast that is difficult to take seriously, but the background structure and the rest of the characters – not to mention the threats the villain unleashes, which I won't spoil – make the story an enjoyable read. It doesn't end with many answers to the mysteries, though – those are clearly going to be the subject of the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fun read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA boring holiday on a quiet farm livens up for Estella when she is caught in an explosion and develops super powers and acquires a companion - a flying horse. 2 good-looking suitors, her first year at college, and a mysterious super-villain make for a fun read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Teenage Science Fiction / Romance
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe characters were fairly believable, however the Animal characters and their shift shaping abilities were far more interesting , but I would not be likely to read any further Books with these characters in.
