Uncharted: a survival love story Kindle Edition
“When we crash-landed on the island, I thought my story was over. Turns out, it was about to begin.”
He was a total jerk from the first moment we met. I took one look at the stranger in the airport terminal and knew he was exactly the kind of man my mother spent seventeen years warning me against. Gruff, grumpy, and far too good-looking to stare at without experiencing heart palpitations. Thankfully, I’d never see him again.
Or so I thought.
I couldn’t have known our plane would crash. I couldn’t have predicted we’d be the only survivors. I couldn’t have ever, in my wildest dreams, anticipated that the jerk from the airport would become my only source of solace in the darkness. It’s so wrong to want him, for so many reasons. But as the months slip by and our hopes of rescue grow dimmer… the spark between us kindles into something impossible to ignore. Sometimes, survival requires swimming in uncharted waters. But if salvation doesn’t come soon…
I might just drown in him.
** UNCHARTED is a full-length story of survival and forbidden love. Due to action elements, adult language, and sexual content, it is recommended for readers ages 16 and up. **

- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2023I’ve had this book on my Kindle for quite awhile, but don’t remember reading it before. Stumbled on it while searching for anything interesting. It definitely fit the bill. You’re pulled in from the start, with well-developed characters and a different plot that kept it fresh. I like the author’s writing and really felt for these characters. Would love to see what happens to them after the book ends, but it was still satisfying.
The story is about two strangers, nothing alike, who end up stranded on a desert island. You think you can guess the rest, vut the author throws in more dimension. I read it in a day and plan to check out her other books. Recommend this!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2019Some of this story was a little fantastical to me. I didn't believe you could make candles from crayons. I googled it and sure enough. Right on! Each one will burn for a half an hour.
A tourniquet from boot strings can be done? Yes, it can be done, not recommended because of how narrow and small they are but you can use them. I do still think Ian would have bled to death but technically it could have been done. She never did mention his boot flopping around, she never cut her feet enough to get infection? All possible, I guess but did arise questions for me and pulled me from the story some.
Other than these questions in my mind the writing flowed well, the characters were engaging and endearing. I was interested and didn't want to stop reading. The only real issue I had was the ending. It felt abrupt and left me sad and unsatisfied. I would have liked to hear about what happened after they left the island. Did the divorce come easily. She said she never saw her moth alive again. I expected this to be explained. I expected her mother to have died while she was in the island. I felt that foreshadowing let me down some and was a waste of some sentences and tension in the story. Other than that I enjoyed this book immensely. I will read more by Johnson. I would like to read "The Girl Duet. I'm interested to find the reason this book came into being.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2018I’ve read and enjoyed several books where survivors find love stranded on an island, so I was excited about reading a new one.
Violet is a seventeen year old hired for a summer dream job working as a nanny for a family in the South Pacific. Beck is a thirty year old Pulitzer Prize winner hired as the family’s photographer. Their first meeting is rocky and neither are pleased when they learn they’ll be working for the same family. When their plane crashes in a terrible storm, Violet and Beck are two of the three surviving passengers.
While I liked the story well enough, I believe it would have been better had it been told in dual POVs. Living in Violet’s head alone was not a fun place and resulted in a disconnect feeling towards Beck.
I struggled with Violet’s character throughout the entire book. She’s stubborn, extremely judgmental, and far too quick to snap at and cut Beck with harsh words when she’s either upset or stressed. She was oftentimes bratty and acted completely childish when she didn’t get her way. Violet was constantly instigating disagreements and poor Beck basically replied in kind.
I liked Beck’s character much better, but because he was quiet and tried to stay clear of Violet and her temper, we don’t really learn much about him. Having his POV would have helped tremendously and made any feelings he developed for Violet feel more believable and real.
There were a number of issues I had a hard time believing, the biggest being the whole thing with Ian’s leg. Yeah, no way a seventeen year old girl would do that. Not much is written about the difficulties building a shelter, yet at some point it mentions they'd built a “cabin”. I’m not sure how and I didn’t go back and check, but I think the only tool they had was a knife from the safety boat. There are no problems mentioned about making fires or opening coconuts or even finding food and water. Everything just seemed too easy.
For those readers who may have a problem with the age difference, it never felt weird and by the time Violet and Beck act on their attraction, she’s turned eighteen. Additionally, Beck was the one who held back and made Violet wait before they took anything further than a kiss.
Overall, it was an okay read. Had I liked Violet’s character better, I probably would have enjoyed the story more. There is no epilogue, it just ends with a happy for now ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2018I am completely and utterly drained emotionally, in the best way, by the words of Julie Johnson. I just finished her latest release, Uncharted, and it ripped my heart to shreds. She utterly demolished me. She wrecked, pun not intended, but she also mended me with her story telling and the complete raw love of this story.
If you read The Girl Duet, you are familiar with Uncharted, but even know what I knew going in, I still couldn't get enough this story of the vividness of it as a whole. Julie can put me through the emotional wringer whenever she pleases.
I know people enjoy going on and on about 'all the feels', but Uncharted literally evoked every single one of them! I was angry. Irrationally so at that, I bawled. I'm talking I had puffy, red eyes. I fell in love. HEAD OVER FREAKING HEELS. I felt helpless and hopeful.
[I wish for Claudius Templesmith to come over the the loudspeaker and save them, I wished for Violet to have Katniss's knowledge of plants!!]
Beck is one of those heroes that you detest right out of the gate. He's a jerk. He's rude and short with Violet and just so infuriating. You think there is no way that he could actually redeem himself on this isolated island cut off from the rest of civilization. No way could I fall in love with this hero.
I am here to tell you. Beck is REDEEMABLE!! And when he was vindicate it was in big way!
Violet is young, but she is tough and strong willed. She is the kind of heroine I want to be in my own story. She doesn't back down from challenges when she is faced with some that I hope to never face in my lifetime.
Seriously. Uncharted deserves all of the praise hands!!

Even made me cry a bit in a touching scene!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romance
After falling in love with Julie Johnson through her Forbidden Royals series, I started binge reading her books. I loved this one especially. The way they hate each other at first and then, fighting for survival on a lonely island, really hooked me and I had to keep reading throughout the night. Can't wait for the sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am having trouble putting into words why I loved it, I loved that the story was simple ...
I absolutely adored this book. I am having trouble putting into words why I loved it, I loved that the story was simple - no overly complicated back stories, no excessive reliving of past issues/mistakes. It was about what was happening right now and just that. And I loved the way it ended. I think if it was done any other way it would have felt overdone and too much. This way, it was just right.
