Belle and the Case of the Burlesque Beauties (Crime & Matrimony Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 362 ratings

Marriage is the last thing Belle wants, but she’ll have to get married to avoid it.

When Isabelle Wood answers a newspaper advertisement for female detectives, it seems the perfect way to avoid her parents’ desire for her to wed… until she discovers she has to marry her training agent for the duration of her first case.

It would be easier if her temporary husband, Valentine Stevens, wasn’t so ridiculously charming and attractive. But all they have to do is stop whoever is sabotaging a burlesque show in Cheyenne, and then she can go back to being happily unattached. Surely she can resist temptation for that long.

But with criminals on the loose, the glamorous lead actress taking an interest in Val, and a hefty dose of stage fright, Belle’s first case is going to be far from easy.

** Please note: Belle and the Case of the Burlesque Beauties was previously published as An Agent for Belle (The Pinkerton Matchmaker series).

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

In her mind, Nerys Leigh lives in a fairytale castle with turrets and secret passageways and sentient brooms that do the cleaning for her. In reality, she lives in a small Victorian house (with no original features) and her broom is resolutely inanimate, no matter how much she sings to it. But reality is overrated anyway.

She writes books that are heart-warming, funny, exciting, and above all, wildly romantic, because that’s what she likes to read. And she adores a blissfully happy ending.

She’s British, but she suspects she might be slowly turning into an American while she writes her stories set in the Wild West filled with mail order brides and railroads and cowboys. Sometimes she puts a U into a word, just to see if she still can. She can’t do the accent though.

Nerys can be found lurking at nerysleigh.com, and if you’d like a free book about a handsome blacksmith, sign up for her newsletter at http://eepurl.com/b-Gj2T and she’ll send you one, because she’s nice like that.

Love the characters personalities very sassy and charming. Can't say I disliked anything about this book of an adventurous female back in the late 1800's. Loved the detective in her character. I would recommend it to all I know it was a great read.

This storyline and characters, Belle and Val were totally captivating with their own special attributes. How you weaved together their styles and attitude was whimsical and funny at times, but thoroughly enjoyable. Belle was a very interesting lady with talents that blew poor Val to distraction, chuckled often while reading their development. Great love story!!!!

This book was better than the second book, but not quite as good as the first book. However, it was close. I might need to take a break from this series and come back to it because the order/timing of events and certain detective "training" skills are too predictable as they are too similar between books. I don't want to list them here as it would contain spoilers. Maybe it won't bother me as much if I sporadically read this series. That being said, I liked these characters. There was still some humor woven throughout the story. Clean, easy read.

What a fabulous book! After reading about Belle's two sisters in the Escape to the West series, I had to read this. It may have been even better than the others, but I find it almost impossible to decide on a favorite of Ms. Leigh's books.
