Editorial Reviews

Review

"Wow! The story will pull you in from the first pages if you just sit back and enjoy what the author has written." - 5* Goodreads

"You'll be glad you read this! This is the first book I've read by Helena Halme and I loved it! The story about the lives of three women and how they intersect, along with the people that headline their lives is fascinating. I don't want to give anything away about the storyline, but just to say it's great. The way Halme writes also made me feel like I was right there on the island, seeing the beautiful scenery, smelling the salt air. Pick yourself up a copy and enjoy!" - 5* Amazon

I write Nordic love stories inspired by real life. I was born in Finland and moved to the UK in my twenties after falling for a British naval officer I met at the British Embassy in Helsinki. We wrote letters for four years—him at sea during the Falklands War, me at university—and our long-distance romance became the inspiration for my first novel, The English Heart, which later grew into the Nordic Heart series.

I’ve always been passionate about books. As a teenager in Stockholm, I devoured every novel I could get my hands on (often before my parents had a chance!). That love of reading led me to writing, and eventually to publishing fiction in 2012 after earning an MA in Creative Writing.

Now I write full-time, drawing on my Nordic roots, love of dramatic landscapes, and belief that stories have the power to connect us. My latest novel, To Melt a Frozen Heart, is an enemies-to-lovers romance set in Lapland, where the Northern Lights blaze and love blossoms against the odds.

I absolutely love this series of stories from Aland by Helena Halme.
This one although part of the series, seems to be a standalone and attempts to explain why things are happening and tract back to the original story to wrap up the series which basically focuses on the lives of three women, Single mom Frida, whose baby's daddy, Daniel has died; farmworker Alicia and her ongoing involvement in a love triangle with Liam and Patrick, and Romanian farmer Andrei, who wants to know how his younger brother Daniel, died.
There is much drama, conflict, and suspense to have the reader invested from the very first word right through to the end.

There's something about the stories from Åland Islands that keep drawing me back and An Island Summer doesn't disappoint.

Right from the beginning, Alicia and Patrick's relationship is the one that has kept my interest, so it's refreshing that in this instalment, other plotlines share the limelight.

Unlike the previous novels, this one can be read as a standalone. For those who have followed this series from the beginning, there's a bit too much backstory, however, the unfolding story of Alexei trying to uncover the truth behind the death of his brother Daniel; the father of Frida's daughter, more than compensates and adds unexpected fast-paced intrigue.

As we wait patiently for book five, it does seem that the story is about to come full circle and back to how it all began; Alicia, Liam and Patrick, and what the future holds for them.

At the start of the book I had tried to figure who was with whom, and how they all connected. I first went back, made a few more
Notes, and all, and it all fell into place. Enjoyed..

I think this might have been translated from another language. It is more a study of the social harms of human trafficking. In this case it is the harms from Swedish potato farmers hiring ‘Eastern Europeans’ through an agency that is actually providing them via illegal human trafficking and trying to hide their cause of death of 1 of their workers. Readers should consider that this is happening within the US and it is not the people in the news attempting asylum at our borders or illegal crossing. This is inhumane hiring practices.

I have read all the books in Helena Halme’s Love on the Island series and was eagerly waiting for the newest instalment in the series and it did not disappoint. It was like meeting old friends again after a far too long time apart, mind you these are friends with complicated lives and tragic experiences in the past.

I like the way the author introduced difficult themes such as trafficking into the lives of the characters living on, at least on the surface, idyllic islands and how easy it can be for us all to turn a blind eye to things happening around us.
Almost as if you could have the problems disappear just by not asking too many questions.

Love on the Island 4 could be enjoyed as a stand alone read but I would be hard pressed to see anyone reading it and not wanting to read the rest of the books in the series. I was very happy to hear that the author is already working on book 5 in the series!

A great combination of love and darkness in an ideal setting. Old and new characters’ life get entwined, adding intrigue to the underlying love stories. This book can be read as a stand alone as well as part of the series but it would be a shame to miss the other books of Love on the Island.

Answered a lot of questions left unanswered in previous books. All plotlines flowed nicely. People do change and grow their whole lives and need different kinds of relationships at different times. A book about love and mystery that is still realistic.
