A late bloomer lesbian doctor. A stepdaughter’s best friend. A taboo passion that could destroy them both.

After a messy divorce, Dr. Rowan Colchester finally embraces her true self. A passionate encounter with a younger woman shakes her world. But when she discovers the complicated connection between them, she knows a future together is not in the cards.

Inspired by the loss of her father, Dr. Simone Doucette dreams of being a humanitarian. But when the pressure proves too much, she takes a job in the ER of a small Cape Cod hospital to put the pieces of her life back together. The last thing she expects is for her new boss to be the one-night stand she can’t forget.

As fate—and scandal—pull them together, Rowan and Simone must fight not just for love, but for the hospital’s survival and the soul of their tightknit community. With careers, reputations, and hearts on the line, will they risk everything for a second chance?

For high-stakes passion and a forbidden steamy romance, don’t miss this must-read collaboration from Miranda MacLeod and TB Markinson.

First, it’s a cute story with a great themes of: younger older woman, daughter‘s friend, disgruntled with family. I have to admit every time the main character was talking to her father I was so incredibly annoyed. It brought up all the conversations I’ve ever had with misogynist in my life. Definitely well written.

On happier notes; the love story, the meddling neighbor/landlord, cute child, and kittens! Really, what story isn’t made better by kittens?

Seriously this is an exceptionally well written story with fantastic characters, plot lines, and a great ending.

The writing dynamic duo has once again brought us a story so big in chemistry and family. Two very different woman meet in a bar and decide to have a night they will remember. Although there is intense chemistry, one is leaving for another country and the other is replacing her ex in his powerful position. Two years later, these two woman meet again but it is where they both work and one is best friends with the others step daughter and the other is the boss. A web neither wants to cross but the hearts have other ideas. The supporting cast to these two women are just as good as the lead. But each time they get closer to a maybe, something comes between them which brings more problems. A well worth read. It has laughs, tears and family drama. Another great score for the writing duo.

Miranda MacLeod and TB Markinson deliver a compelling and emotionally charged romance in The Anatomy of Forever, a novel that successfully balances personal transformation, ethical dilemmas, and the weight of professional responsibility.

Dr. Rowan Colchester, newly embracing her true self after a difficult divorce, is not prepared for the whirlwind that follows a passionate encounter with a younger woman. When fate reunites her with Dr. Simone Doucette, an idealistic doctor seeking solace in a Cape Cod ER, their undeniable connection becomes fraught with complications. The revelation of their unexpected personal link adds a layer of tension that challenges not only their burgeoning relationship but also their careers and reputations. As the stakes rise, Rowan and Simone must navigate professional ethics, small-town scrutiny, and their own vulnerabilities to fight for a second chance at love.

While the “sleeping with your daughter’s best friend” trope initially presents a hurdle, the novel compensates with a well-developed plot that offers depth beyond the romance. MacLeod and Markinson craft a narrative rich with stakes that extend beyond the personal, grounding the story in a high-stakes professional and community-driven context. The characters are well-drawn and compelling, both Rowan and Simone stand out as confident, determined, and capable women who refuse to be defined by societal expectations or past mistakes. Even secondary characters, such as Erica, evolve in ways that add nuance to the story.

A refreshing aspect of The Anatomy of Forever is its portrayal of strong, independent women who communicate effectively and fight for what they want. Rather than relying on contrived misunderstandings or overplayed angst, the novel explores mature relationship dynamics, making the romance feel authentic and rewarding.

Overall, this is a well-executed sapphic romance that offers substance, well-rounded characters, and a satisfying blend of personal and professional stakes. MacLeod and Markinson have crafted a narrative that is engaging, thought-provoking, and ultimately, deeply satisfying.

TB & Miranda are my favorite writing duo for a reason! Their books are always filled with heart, an interesting storyline, and characters you become so invested in from page one you don't want to put the book down. Simone and Rowan, both doctors, meet and there's instant chemistry, but it's supposed to be a one-night stand. Of course it doesn't end there or there would be no story. And it's extremely complicated. But they find their way through and along the way also work together to battle corporate greed to save their hospital and community. The amazing MCs, wonderful dialogue, interesting storyline, a wonderful cast of characters (at times causing laugh out loud moments), and a few animals too all combine to make this Another Must Read by TB & Miranda!

This was such a great read.... it had romance, drama, intrigue, interpersonal and family conflict! What more could you ask for? Simone and Rowan have a night of unparalleled passion and discover a connection that neither can forget. Unfortunately, there are unexpected consequences that threaten to derail their connection. They both have to decide whether to take a chance on love and determine what means the most to them. This book is definitely worth the read!

This is one of those books that stands above the rest. I so totally enjoyed this one that before I knew it---I had finished it. Oh my, but I do believe that a book hangover is now upon me. Quickly fell in love with Rowan and Simone. Those "one night stands" can really get to you---just ask those women. They had so much going against them that I couldn't wait to find out how they navigated through it. There was such fun banter between the two and also some real soul searching. Loved their friends too. Both ladies were such good people that had trying times in their past. Plenty of anxious moments throughout the book but plenty of lovely ones as well. When these two authors get together, one can expect a magnificent story and this book surely testifies to that. There is no way to recommend this one to the highest degree except to say that it commands to be read. Many thanks to the authors for yet another big winner!

Another great book from the collaboration of Ms Markinson & Ms Macloud.
Rowan, who has recently come out following her divorce from her husband; meets Simone at a bar. They enjoy a night together, but in the cold light of day they find out that Simone is Rowan’s stepdaughters best friend. Simone has a job overseas, so she leaved for that.
Two years later Simone comes back and takes a job at the hospital Rowan is about to be in charge of.
They try to resist each other and as the hospital is on financial trouble, try to focus on that. This is a lovely book, good strong storyline and characters and a very enjoyable read.

This novel hit all the marks of a well-constructed novel — lovable characters, a love story, and events beyond their control. I always enjoy a romance where the characters show their mettle and ability to “stick” through the tough times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simone & Rowan
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 21, 2025
When Simone & the more mature Rowan meet for the first time in a nightclub on Cape Cod neither disclose their second names or occupation before they fall passionately into each other expecting it to be a casual one night only connection. Things get more complicated the next day Simone discovers that Rowan is her best friends ex stepmother. Luckily, Simone is leaving the country to work for a humanitarian medical organisation, but not before she and Rowan have one more intimate encounter. Two years later their paths cross again when Dr Simone & Dr Rowan end up working at the same hospital back on the Cape.
Can they hope to reconnect despite all the obstacles of family and work that would stand in their way?
I’ve read so many of TB & Miranda’s collaborations and this is by far the most angsty of them, which for me did overwhelm the more romantic element of the story. There seemed to be a potential disaster waiting for the couple in nearly every chapter, which I felt was a bit too much for my own personal tastes. The quality of the writing however is top class as always from these authors, and the MCs and supporting characters are all well realised and the story does draw you in, if only to find what new obstacle is to be thrown in their path. More romance & much less angst next time please.
