Frances Mackay is a teacher, educational writer and children's book author.

Born in Tasmania where she began her teaching career, she moved to the UK in 1985 and continued teaching in England until 1997 when she left to set up an educational publishing company. After the company was sold in 2007, Frances resumed her writing career, working for a variety of publishers in the UK and Australia and has had over 90 books published. She specialises in books for Primary Schools and children from ages 2 to 12.

    I really like this book because contains a lot of activities.
    Besides that, it's a a good variety, containing coloring, tracing numbers, crosswords, writing letters and words, drawing, etc ...

    It works well for a child who just begins to write, or just as a fun activity for a slightly older children.

    I defiantly recommend this book as well as other books by this author.

    This is another activity book that combines puzzles, word searches, and help with writing out the alphabet. Kids will spend hours figuring out the puzzles and activities, and afterwards they can color in all the pictures! The book is in all black and white with wonderful depictions of animals of all kinds. I received a free copy of this book from the author.

    The “Animal ABC Activity Book” offers a delightful array of things to do on each page although children older than four or five would most likely skip to the puzzle section at the end. And some wonderfully unusual animals are introduced as well. But as I went through the book myself, I came up with a few comments. The cartoon art is generally entertaining and representative of the specific animal, but occasionally I could hardly identify the pictured creature. An example would be the turkey who shows up several times. Some animals could be bigger such as the impala that’s smaller than the frog on the same page. On some pages the point size is too small, for example, the numbers for connecting the dots of the letter E. For the two pages with the instructions “Solve the puzzles and write the words,” more information would be nice to point out that inscribing the first letters of the animals’ names is the goal—for example, “The first letter of each animal’s name makes what new animal?” However, except for a few quibbles the book’s a joy.
