About the author

I write stories about tomorrow to help make sense of today. My debut novel, Artificial Wisdom, launches in the UK in October 2023.
Aside from writing, I’m a tech entrepreneur. My last startup was acquired by Just Eat Takeaway; my new one is still in stealth but backed by a major Silicon Valley tech accelerator.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024Wow! When I started this book, I didn't think it would quite be this type of book. I'm not sure what exactly I expected, but I'm happy to find that it was a really fun and gripping read. At its core, it is a detective novel/ murder mystery, but it dives into tough topics like climate change and AI in a way that shows a keen understanding from the author. It may feel like it hits too close to home for some, but that might be a good thing. Overall, it is a compelling story and one I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a new take on the murder mystery theme.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2024This was such a great read! I don't think I've ever read a book with more twists. Every time I thought I had figured out what was really going on, another layer was revealed. I highly recommend reading this one if you like sci-fi, deep intrigue, mystery, detective novels, and futuristic tech. I thoroughly enjoyed Artificial Wisdom and hope to read more from Thomas R. Weaver in the future!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2024Artificial Wisdom is more of a murder mystery than a science fiction saga. I was under the impression the plot revolved around an AI dictator designed to fix climate change and the negative consequences of giving AI control over humanity on a large scale. It's not, this is a murder mystery with subtle undertones leading to a climax with AI being in the background. If you enjoy murder mysteries then I would rate this as a decent read with interesting ideas throughout. I wouldn't recommend this if you are purely into science fiction though.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2024Artificial Wisdom is a pretty grim and dark novel that combines a murder mystery with futuristic elements, themes of climate change, politics, and AI. As you can probably tell, it’s relevant and paints a picture of a not-so-good future. However, it is gripping and exciting, not to mention thought-provoking. Marcus Tully, a journalist haunted by the loss of his wife in a catastrophic heatwave, is a compelling protagonist. His determination to uncover the truth about the catastrophe propels the narrative and drives the story forward. Also, the inclusion of AI as a political entity is both fascinating and chilling, raising many questions about the future. This is a challenging book, but it doesn’t lose anything in terms of readability and pure page-turning quality. Give it a go, it’s really good.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024I loved the premise of this book. We destroyed our planet and drastic measures are needed if the planet is to recover. I think the best compliment I can give to the author is to say I stayed up way too late to finish it and was not disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2024A murder mystery set in a vividly imagined dystopian future. The characters are multidimensional and the plot is fast moving. Long after I finished the novel, I have continued to think about the choices that lay in our own future at the intersection of climate change and artificial intelligence.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2024When you have to add terms like 'jaw-dropping' and 'fast-paced twists' to a subtitle for your book, that is usually a terrible sign so I was a bit cautious getting into this one. Surprise to find that it's quite well written, better thought-out and an overall good ride. I was a bit disappointed to have caught on to one of the big twists much earlier than I think I was supposed to and the cliche lead reporter overly reliant on alcohol to dull his person demons is tired... but most of the ideas behind this one are well worth the read. I'll look for the next one he puts out.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2024I want to start off by saying that I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just know that I have had my eye on this book since it’s been released. Finally sat down and picked this book up. Yes this book took me a little bit longer to finish. But I didn’t want to rush through. This author will definitely be auto buy for me. With the way technology is evolving now. I can’t t image what it would really look like 2050 or even 2080 from now. This book really made me think of all the what if’s. With the mystery of murders trying to figure who was behind it. It’s like I was there with Teddy trying to solve and write the story for him. I loved the world and the characters that this author created. With every detail. It did leave me questioning if there could be open to another book maybe. I would like to find out how the person who was elected changed the world. Or if they killed off a lot of humanity.
I highly recommend this book. Definitely 2024 favorite. Even through I had hardback copy. I needed ebook copy because I enjoyed this book so much.Definitely a future reread for me.
I want to say thank to author and lovebooktours for the opportunity to read this book. I had such a good time reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars thriller sci-fi that will blow your mind
Imagine you're engrossed in an intricate murder mystery, convinced you understand the trajectory of the plot. Then, without warning, the story takes an unexpected turn, shattering all your predictions. Each turn of the page leaves you guessing, making assumptions, only for the author to surprise you time and time again. You're left in a state of suspense, eagerly anticipating the next twist.
Despite the constant uncertainty, you're utterly captivated, devouring every word without pause. You're fully immersed, your mind racing with possibilities. Just when you think you have a grasp on the truth, you realize you don't.
That's exactly how I felt while reading "Artificial Wisdom" by debut author @Thomas R. Weaver. Set in the year 2050, the story follows journalist Marcus Tully as he investigates the causes of a catastrophic heatwave that claimed millions of lives, including his wife's, ten years earlier. One day, he discovers that it might not have been a natural disaster, but a man-made catastrophe. In his journey, he seeks answer from Martha and her creation, the AI Solomon.
As we follow Tully in his quest for the truth, his ongoing grief remains a poignant element of the story. He must navigate an overwhelming influx of new information, constantly questioning what is real, how to proceed, and whom he can trust. Despite his personal anguish, Tully's journey raises a profound question: how can one person, even while seeking answers and coping with loss, influence the future trajectory of humanity? His struggle emphasizes the difficulty of uncovering truth and instigating change in a rapidly deteriorating world. The complexity of the truth in the storyline is multifaceted, seen both from our perspective and Tully’s. There’s nothing easy about it; every revelation has consequences and needs to be think through. This dilemma is highly relatable, as it mirrors the challenges we all face when confronting harsh realities and making decisions that have far-reaching implications. Salvation has a price right?

Weaver masterfully portrays his characters, and it's astonishing to think this is his debut novel. The short chapters, each offering different perspectives, immerse the reader in a diverse cast of richly developed characters. He even brings a sense of humanity to the AI, making it seem like a normal person. Each character is distinct and compelling, adding depth to the narrative naturally.
It was fascinating yet frightening to read about a future version of our world. It made us consider how today's actions will impact the coming years. The author did an excellent job demonstrating how plausible our future could be, with technology and crises that are already unfolding today.

If you are considering reading this book (fingers crossed I was able to convince you), I highly recommend you check out The Sisterhood bookclub on Fable. You can find this book under "Past Books" (if you aren’t reading it this month) where the author himself provides insights, bonus content, and details about the process behind certain scenes. Many members also have excellent questions and comments. Overall, it really showcases how the author envisions this story and how much he cares for the readers understanding. I’m feeling like I learn so much.

4.0 out of 5 stars What would you do to save humanity?
I really liked the story and had a lot of „omg i knew it“ moments, only to be totally suprised at the end!
In the last pages i thought the world and the point in time, where the story itself ended, had so much more to tell. But this is perfect in its own way as my mind will not stop thinking about it :)
Great book! I would definitly wanna read more From the author 🥰

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book - kept me hooked
Excellent pacing and narrative voice and the kind of story that just keeps giving more and more as the plot develops, thickens and twists.
Not your usual telegraphed twists for the most part either, these were well drawn and interesting.
The characters had good depth and a good variety of personalities in a wide array of key players - though I felt some disappeared a little or never really got their chance to shine as the story progressed.
Overall a great story and a new author for me to keep an eye on, would highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and action packed
I loved this book. It covered so many topics I’m interested in and wow what a phenomenal blending of genres! This combines noir, murder mystery, cli-fi, speculative fiction and investigative thriller so seamlessly. These are all genres I love anyway and seeing them brought together like this was wonderful.
We follow a journalist in the near future dragged into a murder investigation whilst trying to get answers about a heatwave that killed millions of people ten years earlier, including his wife. However he starts to find information that suggests the heatwave may have been deliberate and man-made. This is all set against a tense election for dictator of the world with a dubious human battling against an advanced AI.
The topics discussed in this book, primarily AI and climate change are so pertinent and important. This novel explores the hard choices that might occur in the future if action isn’t taken now. There’s a fascinating debate throughout about humanity’s destructive tendencies and what would we be willing to do to ensure survival? Is it acceptable to take life to save mores lives? The ethical questions posed in this book are carefully explored with multiple perspectives. While we also look at the power of an individual to make change.
The atmosphere was incredible, everything feels so tense throughout and there’s a constant sensation of impending peril. The book is so fast-paced, it’s non-stop action and intrigue and it crams so much in. I didn’t want it to end!
This was thoroughly enjoyable, thought-provoking and action packed. More like this please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Visionary glimpse into the future: a Riveting tale of Murder, AI and climate Crisis
It's rare to find speculative fiction that doesn't fall into the tropes of exaggerated sci-fi. This book succeeds in crafting a fully accessible world thanks to sophisticated technologies that naturally integrate into the narrative without drastically suspending your disbelief (other than pondering about the availability of such services and devices as early as 2050). Even if it occasionally brushes the edge of plausibility, it all seems perfectly logical and expectable given the pace of AI progress (Egospace, yes, please. But the way they make champagne... no, thanks!).
Set in 2050, after a catastrophic heatwave in the Persian Gulf that claimed four hundred million lives, including that of journalist Marcus Tully's wife, the book weaves a captivating murder mystery within a brilliantly depicted future. It raises compelling questions about the climate crisis, the complexities of our bond with Artificial Intelligence, or the price that we, humans, might be willing to pay for 'salvation'.
Fiction meets present-day reality where 'Tabkhir deniers' still refute peak global warming, and society is augmented by neuro-reality and artilects. By blending in speculative elements, the book confronts modern issues such as AI assistants, deepfakes, and the human tendencies to cede autonomy to AI. It projects the reader into an intriguing world where humanity's choices are stark and consequential.
Despite the climate catastrophe, the environmental backdrop is not the central focus of this novel. At its core, it's an engaging, briskly-paced thriller brimming with intrigue, set in a futuristic yet familiar world. It also thoughtfully explores themes of love and loss in a moving fashion. Delving into the complexities of human relationships in a fully digitalised age, it offers profound reflections on our current societal trends.
The novel is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining, making this book a captivating example of science fiction at its best that provokes deep thought about our current trajectory as a species. By doing so, Thomas R. Weaver places himself comfortably among Kim Stanley Robinson, Neal Stephenson or Blake Crouch.
Amazingly, it is his debut novel. I am looking forward to his next book.
