Athora: A Mystery Romance set on the Greek Islands Kindle Edition
From acclaimed Greek writer Kostas Krommydas comes “Athora”, a mystery romance set on the Greek Islands.
A tourist is found dead in Istanbul, the victim of what appears to be a ritual killing. An elderly man is murdered in the same manner, in his house by Lake Como. The third murder is the most perplexing of all: the priest of a small, isolated Greek island lies dead in the sanctuary, his body ritualistically mutilated.
Fotini Meliou is visiting her family on the island of Athora for a few days, before starting a new life in the US. She is looking forward to a brief respite and, perhaps, becoming better acquainted with the seductive Gabriel, whom she has just met. It is not the summer vacation she expects it to be. A massive weather bomb is gathering over the Aegean, threatening to unleash the most violent weather the area has ever seen.
When the storm breaks out, the struggle begins. A race against the elements and a race against time: the killer is still on the island, claiming yet another victim. In the absence of a coroner and with the island now cut off from the rest of the world, Fotini is called in by the local police to help carry out an autopsy. She quickly becomes swept up in the investigation and the battle against the storm.
Locals, a boatload of newly arrived refugees, foreign residents, and stranded tourists are now trapped on an island that has lost contact with the outside world. Is the mysterious refugee Azim the man he claims to be? Who is Sophie, an elderly woman who has been living on Athora like a hermit these past thirty years? What are Gabriel and Carlo, a visiting American investor, really after?
As the storm wreaks havoc on the island, how will they manage to survive?
Fall in love with “Athora”, a mystery romance set on the Greek Islands, full of twists and turns.
“A clever, convincing and chilling novel.”

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2018Kosta Krommyda has quickly become one of my favorite writers. It all began when I was gifted his book, “Cave of Silence”, and ever since I’ve been hooked. Once I heard that he was releasing yet another translation, I was sure to snag myself a copy. “Athora” is a must read!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2019I was keen to discover who the murderer was and to uncover the mysterious pasts of the island's residents. There were undertones of paranormal that I would have liked to see developed to a conclusion. There were aspects of the wider conspiracy that were unexplained and I was left wondering why, but I won't mention in detail here as I don't want to include spoilers.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2020As usual I have enjoyed Mr. Krommydas books. His style of writing is easy reading. Can't wait for the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2022It has kept my interest up to the last page. Unexpectedly easy to read, a place so beautifully described, a story so mysterious and breathtaking. Kostas Krommydas is one of my favorite authors. So gifted. Can't wait for the next book of his.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2023Easy to read and kept my interest until the last page!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2018Mesmerizing. The way the story unravels even from the first chapter, encourages the reader to immerse into Athora's universe and builds up the anticipation of what is to follow. Mystery, professional success, personal struggles, a variety of delicately depicted emotions, a multitude of diverse characters, and nature's uncontrollable wrath, are a few of the elements characterizing this type of storytelling that can capture readers for different reasons.
It is evident that the author put a lot of effort into researching multiple subjects that comprise the spine of the narrative and complete the profile of the main character. A character whose course in life may not appear to be common, but nonetheless manages to become relatable to a great depth, as we get to know her.
Just like every successful recipe, "Athora" provides the reader with the right dosage of emotions, to escalate to a redemptive, unpredictable end. I would definitely recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2018Once again Kostas Krommydas has written a spellbinding book. I was hooked after reading Cave of Silence and have just downloaded Dominions of The Moon. I loved the twists and turns in this book as I tried to figure out who the villain was.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly written, and much enjoyed
Well first I have to say that this is not usually the genre of book I read but have to say I have been converted as thoroughly enjoyed reading Athora, so much that I read it in 3 1/2 days. Great story line with several heart stopping moments and really gets you trying to work out who the murderer is. I now know but I am not telling so you will have to read this yourself to find out and I can guarantee you will struggle like me to put it down and won't be able to wait to pick it up again. Great read, thank you Kosta, I am now on your next book Cave of Silence which I am enjoying too.

4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting read!
What an intriguing read. I couldn’t quite work out the direction the story was taking , certainly a mystery and just about a romance ! But I raced along the winding road of the tale and really enjoyed it. My only problem was the ‘more than a few’ minor spelling errors. Not a major problem but enough to stop the flow while reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clever, convincing and chilling novel.
Readers who choose a book for the location of a beautiful Greek island will need to adjust their thinking as this is a serious and probably realistic portrayal of how challenging events, perhaps even fantastical, would be in a remote place. The book is well written and as page-turners go, once past the first three chapters this is without parallel. The setting within climate change events must have taken some research, as would the awful circumstances of the grizzly deaths. The characters are well drawn and the book draws all the extraordinary events into a clever conclusion in the very last pages. I recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kostas Krommydas does it again!
I was told that this book was very different from Cave of Silence, whihc it was, but was equally enjoyable! A murder mystery set on a Greek island during freak weather conditions which had the islanders pulling together to get through everything that nature threw at them - with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. Once again, the descriptions of the locations took me back to my many trips to Greece, and many of the characters were exactly how I have found the Grrek people can be. I didn't guess the true identityof the killer until the very last momnet, which is always good! Now waiting eagerly for the next book to be translated!
