Playing to Win (Playing the Field) Paperback – November 15, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons
She only wants a winter fling with no promises. But rules are there to be broken.
Madison
After being jilted in Kentucky, playing for Calverdale Ladies in England was a chance to escape and spend Christmas alone, avoiding my feelings.
Which is how I’ve ended up snowed in at a Welsh pub with a retired rugby player who’s hot enough to thaw me out.
But when the snow’s gone, so am I. I won’t let another man in, not even one as gorgeous as Geraint…
Geraint
Running the pub, I’ve had flings with guests, but never one as sexy as Madison.
Too bad she’s so closed off. For both our sakes, we’ve agreed to keep our relationship physical. No attachments. No regrets.
Which is good, because I promised my dad I’d hold on to the Dragon Inn, no matter what. So I’m fine with no commitments, because I can’t ask a woman with a brilliant career in London to give everything up to be with me, in the middle of nowhere. Can I?
Playing to Win is the fourth book in the Playing the Field series―addictive romances full of heart and steam, perfect for fans of T L Swan.
Revised edition: Previously published as Melting the Mountain Man, this edition of Playing to Win includes editorial revisions.

About the Author
Sasha Lace used to be a very serious scientist before she ditched the lab coat and started writing kissing books. Sasha lives in the North of England and is a mom of two young boys. Everyone in her family is soccer mad, so she knows way more about soccer than she ever wanted to know. As a scientist and mom, her hobbies include: mulling over the complexities of the universe, treading barefoot on Lego, chipping dried Play-Doh from fabric surfaces, dried flower arranging (because you can’t kill something twice), and writing about herself in the third person.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2023Ms. Lace, my heart was broken and rebuilt by a giant Welsh pub owner. You know how to weave a story to get all the feels. Each one is better than the last. When you are sitting here with no words, just rocking the emotions you bring to each story. This one wins for me. Yet they are all equally spectacular. Thank you for another spectacular read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2024This book was a great ending to the series. If you love sports romance with the FMC is the sportstar with some spice you'll love the book. I have listened to the audiobook and must say I love characters with accents. The narrators did a wonderful job. My only problem was with the FMC her inner monologue got to me sometimes. But I can definitely recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023Maddie and big g is a slow burn with a happy ending. I loved the connection that the built throughout the book and gave them both closure that they needed.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2024I have really enjoyed this series. Madison and Geraint's story does not disappoint. Her ex has just left her and she decides she needs alone time instead of going home for Christmas. Geraint owns the pub that she's staying at and they get to know each other when they get snowed in. Their story is really good and I love their happy ending.

I can't believe it's over 😭 I'm absolutely obsessed with these Calverdale ladies and their golden retriever beaus. They have made my insides all gooey time and time again and Gerailt was no different. This Welsh Wonder was so dang sweet and perfect for Maddie and I loved them both to bits.
While I was ever so slightly disappointed we didn't get much time in England with our other besties, the time we did get there was so perfect I forgave Sasha rather quickly. This story takes place mostly in snowy Wales, where G and Madison learn to love again and find themselves while they're at it.
I don't know what I'm going to do now that I've not only finished this series, but also Sasha's backlist... But I'm so excited to see what's next for her.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2024Maddie decides to take the job playing for the Calverdale Ladies in England after her husband -to-be leaves her at the altar. She can't seem to get it back together. She goes to Wales to a little Inn for Christmas. She gets caught in a snowstorm. G who owns to Inn where she is going rescues her. Geraint is about to lose the inn and pub that his father ran before him. Their backgrounds are similar as far as what has happened to them. Can Maddie overcome her feelings to let others in? Can she get back on her game? Maybe she'll find out in her new life.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2023This was a comfy holiday vibes romance that I read in one sitting.
Madison is running from the shame and toxic feelings of anger and bitterness that have shrouded her since her ex-fiancé left her at the alter. Nothing brings her joy anymore and she's at a cross roads in her life where she doesn't know what do to or where to go. In a last ditch effort to get her life back on track, Madi accepts an offer to play professional soccer for the Calverdale Ladies all the way across the pond (and as far away as humanly possible from L.A. and her regrettable ex.)
But even playing ball, something she's always done and loved, isn't getting her out of her head and it's starting to effect her teammates.
Knowing she needs to stop wallowing and get past her emotional turmoil, Madi announces she's going to Wales, for a small vacation to reboot and come back re-energized. There she meets gentle giant, Geraint, an ex-rugby player turned pub proprietor trying desperately to keep his family run business afloat in memory of his father and also the town people who are regulars to his pub.
These two are in different parts of their lives and a romantic relationship is the last thing on their mind but Wales works it's magic on them and it was a sweet journey full of laughs, spice and fluffy feel good moments.
This is the second book by this author I've read and I'm really enjoying the writing style, the character development and the emotional pull each story brings out in me. I would definitely recommend this one, especially if you're looking for a little holiday spice!.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read to End a Great Series!!
This is the last book in this series of standalones, and I absolutely adored it! It has a festive feel as it is centered around the Christmas season, but not so much that one would avoid it when it’s not the holiday season. I loved this couple and loved their story. The two are broken, but by coming together, they heal and become whole! I also loved the guest appearances of Gabe and some of the other characters we have come to love. The chemistry between the couple is high, and their story is sweet. It’s a perfect feel-good read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Christmas read
I LOVED this beautiful Christmas read. Such a feel good story. It has my favourite trope in it, "snowed in", and I was so excited to read it. Luckily, Sasha did not disappoint. A beautiful end to a fantastic series. Can't wait to see whatever Sasha writes next. She's a auto buy author, for sure.

The full series was amazing! But this was by far my favourite. Gives all the hall mark vibes with an amazing story line! A happily ever after story with a little twist

3.0 out of 5 stars it was ok
Felt like there was a lot of miscommunication but otherwise I enjoyed it. Prefered the previous books in the series
