Holding on to Chaos: Blue Moon, Book 5
Audible Audiobook
– Unabridged
“I want to be upfront with you. No surprises, no secrets. I want you, Eva. And I think you might be it for me.”
Eva is a hot mess running from her past and doesn’t mind telling a fib or two to protect her secrets. It’s too bad that she moved to the nosiest small town in the world with Sheriff Sexy—the tall, built, human lie detector. He’s suddenly showing interest and treating every conversation like it’s an interrogation.
Donovan loves his nice, quiet, hippie town and he’s got some pretty strong feelings when it comes to a certain klutzy redhead, too. But she’s hiding something. Just when he starts to peel back those layers to get to the naked truth, the entire town loses its collective mind—and inhibitions—in what town elders identify as an astrological apocalypse.
Can he save the girl from her past and the town from itself?

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2017Okay, if you’ve been reading Blue Moon in order (and you should be, so if you are behind hop right on back to Summer and Carter in No More Secrets...trust me you don’t want to miss any of this series) you will be surprised by just how good this is. I mean, we’ve come to expect fantastic things from Lucy especially when it comes to Blue Moon, but she has seriously outdone herself here.
I didn’t think Blue Moon could get any crazier, but they managed to pull it off! Only in Blue Moon could a planetary crossing cause mass chaos. This book is absolutely hilarious! People are acting completely out of character, but it is all done Blue Moon style. When they riot, they leave money for the items taken, and when they are arrested, they only need a taped off square to hold them captive. This book takes everything I love about Blue Moon and pushes it up a level. It is fun to see the quirky town completely lose what little sanity they had.
The hilariousness doesn’t stop there. Eva is a riot. She is really one giant walking disaster. I seriously laughed out loud this entire book. It is so much fun. While Eva is a fantastic person, grace and style are not really her thing. When she is nervous she gets even clumsier, and that makes her interactions with Donovan Cardona aka Sheriff Sexy even more fun to read. Beyond being funny, Eva is such a great person. While everyone is so worried about protecting her, she has made it her life's mission to protect her family. She is so very selfless with those she loves. However, this has caused her to distance herself from her family and those she cares about in general. In this book, we get to see her learn how to open up and let others in. We see her begin to learn how to accept herself and take credit for some of the great things she has accomplished. With the support of the town, Donovan, and her family she is able to find the strength she needs to face her demons and embrace true happiness.
And Donovan. Donovan is the epitome of a hero. He is Sheriff Sexy. He always puts the needs of others before his own. He has sworn to serve and protect Blue Moon, and he seems to know no limits when it comes to that. People know they can count on him. I absolutely love that he knows what he wants and sets out to get it. He is completely upfront with Eva about his feelings, and he refuses to back down. There is something so perfect about an honorable man who openly puts his heart on the line. He is there for Eva no matter what and is determined to bring out the best parts of her. He knows how strong she is and works to show her what she is capable of. While he comes to her rescue, he never sees her as a helpless damsel in distress. He is exactly what she needs. She also brings out the fun, easy going side of him. Together, they balance one another.
I truly didn’t think I could love Blue Moon more than I already did, but this book was seriously fantastic! The characters are so real! I feel like I have taken a trip to Blue Moon and experienced this astrological apocalypse with them. The only thing I am left thinking is...who’s next? Blue Moon can’t possibly end here. I mean, we have so many characters I need to know more about! I can’t wait to see what Lucy dreams up for us next. Whatever it is, I can guarantee I will be there one clicking away and loving every minute of it!
Overall, this is a must read, one click, purchase without thinking twice book. I cannot recommend it enough! If you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, this series is currently free for you, so you have no excuses! While I am a KU subscriber, I didn’t think twice about pre ordering this and I don’t regret it at all!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2025Even if the planet crossing was a little hokey, the rest of the story was intriguing and fun. Retribution for Eva was the best. I want the support and love of my husband that all the wives in the Blue Moon books are lucky to have. Bravo!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2025This was easily my favorite book in the series and I found myself laughing out loud on multiple occasions! Loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2025So Eva and Donovan's story had me from page 1. Their story was so good I couldn't put my Kindle down. Firstly, there were so many funny parts in this book I don't think I stopped giggling through the entire book, except when I was crying (a lot to unpack there.) Secondly, I loved how the Pierce, Merrill clans were so prevalent with EVERYONE. It is so worth reading this series in order, but the fact that Donovan fell so hard, so fast first, made this my favorite for sure. Best part was the Pluto/Uranus planetary moon madness! I loved the spice, and family bonds that filled these pages, but the month long madness that hit the town makes this book one of my favorites already of 2025.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2024I love Lucy Score, and I loved the characters in this book, but it was a slower read than normal. Donovan was perfect, Emma was clumsy and I found her self doubt to be relatable, but I was as driven to spend every spare moment sucked into this book like I normally am. That said, it’s still worthwhile if only to complete the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024This romcom - emphasis on comedy because it's laugh out loud funny - is the 5th book in the Blue Moon series. It could work as a standalone, but it's better to read the series in order; there's context and a cast of characters from the earlier books. It features small town sheriff Donovan and the youngest Merrill sister Eva. Frustrated because her father and siblings think she needs to be protected, she's become used to keeping secrets to shield her family. Donovan knows that she's hiding things and is determined to find out about the woman who fascinates him. As Eva and Donovan get to know each other, Blue Moon experiences an astrological apocalypse that causes the townfolk to behave completely out of character. Think coming to blows over books, absconding with kids' bikes, tp'g trees - nothing too bad but enough to disrupt things.
Donovan is the perfect book boyfriend. He respects Eva and wants her to believe in herself. Eva is a likable, zany heroine with a secret gig and pseudonym as a romance author. The chemistry is spicy and believable.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2025I recently found Lucy Scores books and they are terrific. Her writing is great as well as her cast of characters. The small town stories always make me think of home.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2025A scrumptious apple pie-y story of two more Blue Moon residents. The unique weirdness that can only happen there continues as the town sheriff and resident romance author find true love. I can't recommend this book enough. The continuing stories of Blue Moon residents only get better with each book. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holding on to Chaos
Wow, who'd have thought Blue Moon residents could get any crazier, I loved this story. Donovan's character absolute shone for me, I loved his quick wit and dry sense of humour. Donovan and Eva worked well together. I think this is my favourite in the series, so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never disappoins
This was the 5th book in the series and I'm already sad because there are only 2 more. The whole town of Blue Moon is truly peculiar but the Pierce family, all their in-laws, are beyond fascinating. Family people who help each other out even if the help is not requested. They 're noisy, big, loving and incredibly funny. I definitely recommend. 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious yet poignant
Everybody stop! The Blue Moon gang are back, back again. I for one, am so happy. I wait semi patiently for whatever is written by Lucy Score, but I have such a soft spot for the romantic goings on in Blue Moon. At this point I'm not entirely sure this place is fictional 😄😉. The characters are so well fleshed out that I can almost predict reactions to events now we're 5 books in.
What I couldn't predict is an unforseen planetary alignment event turning the entire town even crazier just when sheriff Donovan finally finds the woman of his dreams. What ensues is a madcap caper full of fun, silliness and a astrological conspiracy to keep Donovan from laying claim to Eva, youngest sister of Gianna (book 2) and Emma (book 4).
As ever with this series, the lighthearted feel is tempered with the secrets Eva is keeping from her family and Donovan. I think the more serious storylines interspersed with the fun are really what make this series so successful.
I become invested in the outcome being a happy one and the main protagonists taking me on a journey to fulfilment.
Long may Lucy find a way to revisit the people of Blue Moon, but if it were to be an end note, the series has gone off on a high. I secretly hope she writes more though😁

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and laughter
I could not wipe the smile off my face the entire time I read this book I am so happy to return to Blue Moon and spend time with the quirky citizens of this hippie town. Donavan the sexy town sheriff falls fast for the klutzy writer Eva. You will fall in love with this wonderful heroic good guy and want Eva for your best friend. Score has written about a town we all want to live in, this entire series is a must read for anyone that's wants too smile and laugh out loud while falling in love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty funny
There's a lot of humour in these books. Love the characters but you really have to read the series in order to get the backstories on all the them as they are introduced in earlier books.
