Before Safe Haven: The Complete Box Set by Christopher Artinian and narrated by Kim Bretton is the beginning of the best all in one. This box set tells the tales of four characters at the beginning of the zompoc. This will give you a glimpse into the lives of those in the Safe Haven world prior to the current chaos. Highly recommend whether you are new to the series or a long time follower.
A brief description of each~
Mike: This one gives us insight into his past and will satisfy your questions/curiosities. The beginning of the book takes places before the outbreak and deals with Mike’s time in Priory Bridge Young Offenders Prison, while the remainder deals with the outbreak and the events in Mike’s life at that time.
Alex: This one is about family, or what family should be, and zombies. It’s an emotional listen (you’ve been warned).
Lucy: This one deals with SHTF, why Lucy is where she is (you might shed a few tears to her backstory), and quite a bit of action.
Jules: This is another one dealing with SHTF, lots of action, and trying to survive. Jules is thrown into a leadership role despite her objections.
The order of the books was no doubt a carefully picked choice- you will go from a mild, appearing to be somewhat manageable situations to outright pandemonium. Regardless of where you fall on the pandemonium spectrum, this box set won’t disappoint.
Regarding the narrator Kim Bretton, she really makes the Safe Haven world stand out by doing a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life and voicing the story in general.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Without giving away too many spoilers, but here are some of the topics (not all are included- it’s the zompoc=bad people doing bad things): violence, domestic abuse, alcoholism, corruption, sexual assault (by clergy and attempted rape while walking on the street, but not in detail), drinking, attempted murder, gangs, drugs/addiction, loss of child, mobsters, prison, death.
Language used: F’s and S’s used throughout
