Robin Willis is filmmaker, father, writer and general pain in the ass. Some might say, “well meaning pain in the ass”, while others might say,”no he's just a pain in the ass.”

Film wise he's directed hundreds and hundreds of commercials, and a couple of short films and a documentary that were supposed to rescue him from the unbearable slog of staying in fabulously expensive 4 star hotels all around world, and instructing actor like people in the fine art of biting and then smiling.

He has written “Bar Pinotxo, God is in the Garbanzos", the first English language book on Catalan cuisine in the last 30 years. The book lays bare the secrets and recipes of the Bayen/Asin family who have owned and operated the aforementioned world renowned “Chiringuito” in Barcelona’s famed Mercado de la Boqueria for the last 85 years.

Until the statutes of limitations are exceeded he currently resides in Barcelona with his brilliant 17 year old quadra-lingual daughter Zoe, whose grades, grace and charm astound him on a daily basis.

Filled with wonderful storytelling that transports you to Barcelona's most famous Mercado. If you've eaten at Bar Pinoxto, as have I, this engaging book will provide so much detail and background as to expand your appreciation for Bar Pinoxto and it's unique heritage, along with the recipes that made it famous.

I've been to this restaurant. The recipes are excellent.

I went to Bar Pinotxo last year and the Cigrons amb Botifarra Negra & Ceba is as amazing as people say, so I was super excited that this book has the recipe. The Cigron recipe lists garlic in the ingredients, but the instructions never tells you to add it. The recipes are vague with items like 2 onions. Does not specify the size or type of onion. The book is poorly organized and written poorly. Only nice thing in the book are the employee profiles.

The photographs are great!! The recipes good selected and correct ingredients, but very bad cooking explanations (author has a bad or American humour obsession). And yes, that is the good part. The bad one is the writer, who has not lost his American lack of culture and humour in all the time he lives in Barcelona!!! Boring, saved by the great subject, which makes the book nice despite the writer's effort to spoil it. American will love it... written for them!

I love this book because it takes me back to one of my favorite places to eat in Barcelona, El Pinotxo in the famous Boquería Market. I also love the background stories about the staff of Pinotxo.

This cookbook and recipes are authentically Catalan and I love the fun writing and great descriptions by author Robin Willis. The photos are beautiful and make my mouth water.

This book is a great gift for those going to Barcelona to check out this unique place. Also, a great souvenir after visiting Barcelona. Or you could buy it just to have an awesome and totally unique cookbook at home.

    Highly recommended!

The stories and narratives are filled with authentic recipes with beautiful photographs reflecting the heart and soul of Pinotxo. So fortunate to have had a taste of the joie de vivre!

This book is so fun and endearing for any expat who has lived or spent some quality time in Barcelona, and knows a spattering of Spanish. It has classic catalán recibes but is far from a cookbook. I bought one for a gift, and got so engrossed in it that I bought one for myself to have. Now I have just sent 2 more copies as gifts this holiday season. It's a lovely quality hardback book that deserves a place on the coffee table, to be picked up and perused by many. Looking forward to more publications by this talented author.

I haven't found another cookbook as authentically Catalan as this one. The recipes are true Catalan and what makes this one stand out is the crazy fun text of author Robin Willis. His journey in making this book must have been one of great discovery, friendship and taste because he makes every description fun and personal.

If you want a taste of Barcelona without having to travel there, get this book. If you are returning from Barcelona and want to make some of the wonderful food you had there, then get this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars As authentic as the phrase " cosas muy autentico" on page 69.

I only bought this book to get the recepie of the famous garbanzo dish that I loved so much when I tried it. Instead of getting a proper description there are things like "1 hefty teaspoon of Chimichurri spice mix (See Privisions" page 67) " . On page 67 you can't find anything. 30 Euros for a book called "God is in the garbanzos". I have only had this book for an hour but I don't think I'll ever open it again. Thanks Robin Willis, have you actually ever been to bar Pinotxo?
