Barking up the Wrong Tree: A Sweet Small Town Romantic Comedy (Finding Love at the Doggy Spa) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 111 ratings

Why is it so hard to admit your feelings for the guy who's been your bestie since Kindergarten?

It doesn’t matter that Terence comes over with his family for Sunday dinners.

It doesn’t matter that he’s grown cute and handsome all at once.

And it sure doesn’t matter that he sends my heart stumbling like I’m runaway roller skates.

Terence and I are
just friends.

Best friends. Old friends. Never-to-be-together-ever friends.

I figured that we’d grow in different directions, given just how different we are. But it’s turning out to be just the opposite. He reads me like no one else can, and I tell him what he needs to hear.

Still, we’re
just friends.

Or are we? I’m reaching new heights of local roller derby fame just as Terence is about to become the head of the first search and rescue service in these parts. We only want to celebrate with each other.

If only I could figure out what that gleam in his eye really means…

Barking up the Wrong Tree is a wholesome and sweet friends-to-lovers romantic comedy quick read with a Border Collie who always saves the day. It’s part of the series “Finding Love at the Doggy Spa”, but can be read as a standalone.

Terrence and Alli are the perfect friends to love story as well as complete opposites but they are so perfect together! Alli is quirky and fun loving while Terrence is strait laced accountant who doesn’t take chances. In addition to a sweet romcom I love the addition of the mountain rescue dog story as it added some adventure to the the love story. I loved Ranger the border collie and now I really want a border collie! This is a story within a series but you can be read alone. It is a fast read and if I could give it 10 ⭐️ I would!

Alli jumps from one thing to the next while Terrence is cautious with his detailed plans. She realizes she has romantic feelings for him but is afraid to ruin their friendship. There were a lot of misunderstandings and back and forth that added to drama and stretched out the potential for romance. I loved his hero dog Ranger with those amazing rescue skills.

Allie and Terrence know each other from age six and are the bestest of friends. Except now he’s filled out in his hsoulders and is a smashing-looking Viking god and she’s still the flamboyant try-anything screwup, but opposites attracts, right?

I loved the interactions of Allie and Ter-Ter and I loved how he t tongue-tied and she got territorial. Not available this Thursday indeed. A convincing and sweet friends to lovers with a few curvballs and several misunderstandings without the usual lets-make-him/her-jealous cliche. An enjoyable 2-hour read.

Recommended for lovers of easy, sweet, NA friends-to-lovers romantasy.

I got this book on stuff your kindle day. Its a short read; one I'll never pick up again. There was no plot, character development, and lacked both the romantic and comedy part of a rpm-,com.

    Reader’s Notes:

    – this was in the limited edition Fall Into Love romantic comedy collection

    – this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

    – this is told from Alli and Terrence’s points of view

    Review:

This was a sweet best friend’s to more romance 😍. I definitely wanted to read more in their story and felt it was a bit too short (this is why I removed a star) but it got across the points of their story. I really enjoyed Alli and Terrence’s friendship and how they knew little things about each other and could call the other one out when they were holding themselves back from things. They were also there for each other through the highs and the lows. Both of them also supported the other in their goals, especially when they had doubts.

    Summary:

Alli hasn’t had luck in dating and has turned her focus onto different hobbies to take up her time and attention. Right now that means roller derby…even though her clumsiness makes navigating the skates difficult. Her constant is her best friend Terrence.

Terrence is a worrier, he just can’t help it, especially when it comes to Alli. He’s been around her so long that he knows how she operates, going all in with abandon and her clumsiness. She is likely to get hurt, and he can’t always be there for her due to work. And that worries him to no end.

When Alli and Terrence start to feel something different between them, they worry that they’ll have to deny their feelings in order to keep their friendship. But when someone else shows interest in Terrence, Alli wants to stake her claim. Will she do it? Or will she take the safe route and pretend that nothing has changed between them?

Alli and Terrence have been best friends since the third day of first grade. Now they are each feeling something for the other but neither wants to lose that friendship.

This is a quick read that runs the course of a week, but doesn't feel rushed. The dog is awesome as only good dogs can be. The characters are charming. And, the story is clean and wholesome.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree is art of the wonderful Doggy Spa series. It can also be read as a delightful stand-alone.
Alli and Terence made a pact when they were just children to be best friends forever. As adults they still are best friends although they could not be more different. Maybe that is not what they want anymore. They are both great characters but the star of this book is the amazing border Collie Ranger.

I always enjoy my visits to the Doggy Spa and this one was particularly delightful and laugh out loud funny at times. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Elsie Woods did it again! I laughed so hard at times and when it came to the more awkward part a few tears ran down my cheeks. But I'm so glad these two friends had a mediator because they really needed that push.

Thank you Elsie Woods for this wonderful book.
