Beauty and the Professor (A Modern Fairy Tale Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 2,997 ratings

"I love this Beauty and the Beast story that Skye Warren has crafted. She puts a twist to this classic tale that makes it different and deliciously erotic." - Nina's Literary Escape

Once upon a time there was a beautiful college student…

Erin cleans Mr. Morris’s house twice a week to pay her tuition. The reclusive ex-soldier intimidates her, but she can’t help but feel sympathy for him. Then she walks in on him touching himself, and she has much darker, much more sensual feelings.

And a beastly professor with scars he can’t hide…

Blake Morris knows he’s scarred both inside and out. He’s reclusive and surly. Nowhere near good enough for the smart and beautiful young woman who cleans his house.

He receives an offer to return to his alma mater as an associate professor. This is his chance to reenter the world--and to be worthy of the woman he dreams about. He never expected to see her sitting in his classroom on the first day of the semester.

Author's Note: BEAUTY AND THE PROFESSOR is the first book in A Modern Fairy Tale duet. It contains a tortured hero, a strong young heroine, and a VERY steamy forbidden romance.

I will say this at the beginning of all Beauty and the Beast retellings: I love ”Beauty and the Beast”. It’s one of my all time favorite stories so any chance I see an author do a retelling, I’m always very easily persuaded to read it. This book was hot. The connection and passion that Blake and Erin have just sizzles off the pages. Blake is such a great main character. From the beginning of the story I knew I was going to love him. It’s really hard not to want to root for him. He was left wounded, broken and lonely. And sweet Erin, she really adores and admires Blake. She sees him for who he truly is, both on the inside and outside. I love the added forbiddenness to this story with the student/teacher relationship and of course an age gap is added in two. Two of my favorite tropes. It would be really hard for me not to love this book. This author is becoming one of my favorite authors, so far I’ve loved all the books I've read by her and this is no different than the rest. I think she's a phenomenal writer who can really get you hooked into a story pretty easily. This book had everything I love and could ever wish for in a story.

I LOVED IT and can't wait to add this book to my collection.

I enjoyed the plot of this story and the characters to an extent. However, I felt like they needed to be fleshed out more. I would have liked more in-depth characters; they felt very superficial, just shells of people. Also, I was thrown off several times by the use of incorrect pronouns and phrases that did not make sense. Despite these issues, I did enjoy reading this story.

Beauty and the Professor by Skye Warren is the first book in her Modern Fairy Tale Duet. A sexy, steamy modern re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.

Erin is a grad student on scholarship and loans and working her way through the expenses by cleaning in her free time. Her favorite job, by far, is her twice a week visit to the reclusive Blake Morris. A wounded vet and one-time professor, he was badly burned in his last tour and has made himself a recluse as a result. But when Erin sees Blake she sees the whole man, not just a man with scars.

Blake has no need of having his house cleaned twice a week but the company that Erin provides is addictive. So if he has to pay her to be there, so be it. But when Erin witnesses something he wishes she hadn't he is wiling to let her go, but despite everything, it just pulls her in and they begin their affair with no idea what troubles lay ahead.

Well-written and well-paced and filled with steamy, sexy encounters the story held it's own amidst the various smoking hot scenes between Erin & Blake. Loved it - will definitely be finishing this duet with book two, Falling for the Beast as soon as possible. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, this book was problematic for me in quite a few ways. First and foremost, this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. For this aspect, I think the author did a great job at bringing out the necessary characteristics for both the characters and I can certainly relate them to the beloved fairytale. Secondly, I love a student/teacher romances and haven't seen a new one to fit into the genre in ages. So the fact that the author brought this trope back to life thrilled me. Aside from these two things though, the story was severely lacking for me and I almost didn't finish it to begin with...

First, it's lacking in substance. Readers are never able to really get to know the characters because all they do is have sex. I mean it. Literally, that's all they do. The author skims over important characteristics of both Erin and Blake that would allow us to get to know them but never truly brings them to life.

Secondly, the ending made NO sense. I don't care enough about the characters to pay five dollars to see what happens either. I mean, how do you go from being blissfully in love to saying they cannot be together? Feels like a ploy to me and I have no interest in it.

This book is clearly not my cup of tea but I hope readers will look at all the reviews before making the decision as to whether they will read this one or not.

The story itself is a very steamy and fun rendition of "beauty and the beast". It's a combination of the professor/student trope and the reimagined fairy tale. I liked the characters. Erin was naive and sweet, with a very good heart while Blake is an alpha man who has been beaten down a bit by circumstances. The steam started pretty much immediately and is highly prevalent in the book, so if that's not your jam, this is fair warning (it was a bit overdone in my mind). But it's a fun, interesting story that kept my attention as these two characters had to overcome their pasts and then present obstacles to come together. This is book 1 of 2 so there is a cliffhanger at the end.

I received this book from #AudioBookObsession as an #AudioBookObsessionReviewer. I enjoyed the audiobook. Stephen Dexter is fantastic. Great voices, excellent pacing and wonderful emotion throughout the book. I really enjoyed his narration. i liked that he had a gravelly, deep voice for the professor, Blake, who is the "beast" in the story. Lia Langola was great too- she was able to differentiate between the different characters and was a pleasure to listen to.

I really enjoyed this story. Be aware that there’s a lot of bedroom action. Like, a real lot. Three stars only because it’s not completely clear that this is a cliffhanger. When I see “book 1 of a 2 book series” that doesn’t say cliffhanger to me. I expect a continuation in the same town or same family or same organization or something, and not a continuation of the same couple. All that said, this is a good story with engaging/vulnerable characters, and lots (and lots) of well written heat.

Loved this story about a man disfigured from war and a young girl from the wrong side of the tracks cleaning his home. So many hurdles in their way, just when you think they will be okay something else comes to pull them apart.
This is a two part story.
    Narration was awesome too.

This book had no interest whatsoever. More than half of this book is just sex scenes, and not even attractive enough. So yeah, I skimmed through half of them, and most of you will.

The characters are plain and even feel stupid, the premise is as old as any fairytale, but the author doesn't manage to make it exciting.

For anyone who is interested in this, I discourage you from reading it.
