From the Author
Steven Prichard stood at the window of his San Francisco penthouse, gazing down at the busy street below. Where the hell was she? How could she? How dare she?
His teeth ground inside his mouth, sending tiny pricks of pain traveling along his jawline. Funny. It was actually difficult for him to breathe. Just the idea she managed to escape, got the best of him, was making his life a living hell. To top that little blunder off, his mother would never let him live it down.
He couldn't believe it. Still hadn't dealt with the shock of it all. A quick trip to the gym and a round with a punching bag would do the trick for the moment. And when he found her...
In his mind, there was no need to worry. He'd get her back. When he did, she'd never walk, much less run again. She would never humiliate him like this again. Ever.
But first he had to find her.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2016When Melissa Ohnoutka creates a villain, she really creates a villain! The man she thought was her husband and who she had a son with is a man without a conscience or soul. The suspense ride she took me on with Mikayla trying to get away from him was terrific. She thought she had found safety and the love of a good man. Or had she? Everyone has secrets in this story!
I recommend this to anyone who loves a good romantic suspense. It's a page turner.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017I enjoyed this book very much. I really liked the characters and this story kept my interest until the end. This story would make a great movie, strong plot, lots of action and suspense, sympathetic characters and a hint of romance. I look forward to reading more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2013This suspense in this book kept me turning the pages! When Makayla meets Ryan, she is on the run from her awful husband, her child by her side. Her only objective is to hide. Ryan provides that shelter she needs. The story jumps ahead a few years to find them married and happy, with another child. But when her first husband finally finds her, Makayla again finds herself at the man's mercy. Makayla and Ryan are two characters you automatically root for!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2013I really enjoyed this suspenseful story that had me constantly aching for more. My only criticism is the mistakes throughout the book. There were enough that it became distracting, but it didn't hinder the understanding of the plot and action taking place. Kudos to the author for drawing me in from the very start and holding me until the very end! Will definitely read more from Melissa.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2012This is an exciting story of a young woman's struggle to leave behind a past of cruelty and betrayal. She lives an ordinary life for 10 years then the horrifying past confronts her once more. Trying to save her two sons becomes her only reason to live. This book will take you on a journey where you will meet evil in it's worse form and leave you believing that good really does conquer all.

Thrown into the middle of the story I was hooked from the beginning. I felt for Makayla and her little son and fell in love with Ryan, the knight in shining armor. I thought about ways to end the existens of Steven and felt as powerless as Makayla. But then one of her sons goes missing and the other tries to get him back and I really become scared for this little family. If you like a good thriller this is the book for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2015Melissa is a friend of mine. I love all the books she has written so far. Can't wait to read more.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2014This one started out really strong for me. The author just throws you into the middle of Makayla's story and while some might find that confusing, I LOVE IT when author's start off their adventure that way. Right off the bat, you hate Makayla's husband. He seems to be a sadistic bastard that everyone's nightmares revolve around. This Steven character is the monster under your bed, the bad guy in the closet. As scary as it is, I'm sure there is more than one actual person like this in the world. Man. He just gave me the creeps.
Ohnoutka can sure write a good bad guy.
Once Ryan enters the story, that's when I'm officially hooked. I love his character. I like how his character develops as the story and the connection with Makayla feels genuine and heartfelt.
Now ... all of that being said ... after about halfway through the book ... I just totally lost interest. I don't know why. The ending was great, I was a bit surprised how everything came to a head and I really enjoyed how all of the events and characters finished things off but the meat of the story was a little ... meh. It really bothers me to say that because I did get really invested in what was going on between Makayla and her husband and then with Ryan. I felt almost robbed. I think that I kinda wanted the beginning part with Ryan to take more pages. A lot more. I really enjoyed the give and take between Makayla, Ryan and Michael during that time period.
Anyhow ... pretty good book till about half way ... I would definitely give this author another shot since I liked the beginning of the book so much.
