Broken Hearts: A Gut-Wrenching Story of Loss (Prequel to Forbidden Hearts) Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

There are many things that can tear a heart apart, but none so great as the weight of grief. This is the trial faced by Jane and Daniel, who find themselves on the receiving end of every parent’s worst nightmare. When their beloved little girl, Joy, is diagnosed with leukemia, the family packs their bags and relocates to Perth. In the warm sunshine of the Australian coast, they hope for a miracle to save their daughter and their family. As their greatest fears play out under the big Western sky, Jane and Daniel attempt to hold on to what they have and look to whatever future is in store for them. Grief and loss are key players in a marriage that is already strained and bears down upon them with the weight of the world. In the end, all that remains is the time they have together and what they choose to do with it. It is up to Jane and Daniel to choose hope over grief and learn to grow despite it.

Lucy’s interests include plotting the next love story, travelling for fun and inspiration, researching crime stories and news to inspire her work, watching romance and suspenseful movies, reading, meditating, and spending time with friends and family. I received a free copy of this story when I signed up to be on Ms. Appadoo’s mailing list. I’ve read a few of her other novels & enjoyed them a great deal. This novelette had me in tears. The writing was so genuine, I felt the wrenching loss of Jane & Daniel. So sad.
This story is a good lead-in for the next novel “Forbidden Hearts”. Ms. Appadoo recommends, as per the last page in my copy of “Broken Hearts”, that the reader begin reading “Forbidden Hearts” next. Jane & Daniel’s stories continue. However, “Forbidden Hearts” is labeled as book 2, and “Rising Hearts” is labeled as book 1. “Rising Hearts” has nothing to do with Daniel & Jane, but with different people altogether. So I’ll be following the author’s advice & will read “Forbidden Hearts” next even though it’s labeled as book 2. I’m starting it right now.
    Cheers!

I have just finished reading Lucy Appadoo’s Broken Hearts Novelette; Prequel to Forbidden Hearts. This is a book I find hard to review because my emotions are so raw and I haven’t stopped crying. It’s not a book you could say was great and you loved it because how could you love something so hurtful such as losing a child to cancer. I watched my mother die of cancer and this story hits too close to home. I will say the author wrote from her heart and you went through all the emotions and feelings her characters went through. It’s a hard story to read but one I’m glad to have read even though the tears still haven’t stopped.

This was the first book I read by Lucy Appadoo, and although the story is heartbreaking, I really loved it.
The path that Jane and Daniel have to go through because of her daughter's illness, Joy, is really arduous. And, unfortunately, the end result is not what they expected.
They have to learn to move on without the presence of Joy in their lives, and although the loss is irreparable, the love they have for each other may be able to help them.
I was very moved by this story. Joy was a very special and joyful child, and the end of the story left me in tears.
    I recommend the reading.
