Bite Me (Shadow Guild: Vampire Bride Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 4,760 ratings

I’ve got one thing to say to the fated mate who wants to kill me: Bite Me.

I can handle anyone who walks into my pub. Except him--the most powerful vampire who ever lived. The First. Dark, damaged, and hot as hell. He says I’m his one and only Vampire Bride, and that five years ago, I buried him alive.

Obviously he’s crazy, because I don’t remember any of that. All I know is that if I want to escape his vengeance, I have to help him infiltrate a deadly secret society.

I’m going to use the time to prove that I didn’t try to murder him, and that I’m
not his Vampire Bride. Because if I am, he’ll be forced to kill me. But we're like colliding stars, and the heat is irresistible. As the danger thickens, I start to wonder if maybe I did kill him. Whatever happens in the end, there’s no escaping our twisted fate.

If you like kickbutt heroines, powerful heroes, humor, and enemies-to-lovers, then check out Bite Me, the first book in the Vampire Bride series.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Vampire obsessed.
I love vampires, they are the cause of my obsessive paranormal reader heart. This book was fast paced and luring! I was intrigued when I found out this story was set in the same world as Wolfmarked by Veronica Douglas (that was another title I enjoyed!). The story follows a seer girl named Mac, she meets this sexy mysterious vampire by the name of Drakon. From the start we feel the tension between the two, "love me hate me, I still want you" type of relationship.. yup! you got it, enemies to lovers, one of my absolute favorite tropes. Well, Drakon is a powerful vampire accusing Mac of burying him alive years before but Mac does not remember anything of that sort. In order not to die in the hands of this sexy vampire, Mac agrees to help Drakon investigate the whereabouts on some stolen items. Mac is my type of protagonist for sure! Straightforward, no beating around the bush and isnt afraid of being herself... she totally stands her ground and I love that about her. Drakon is dark, brooding, very sensual almost, kinda gives me the Interview with the Vampire vibe -type. The world building is carefully put together, the plot was very stable, I wouldve loved to learn a little bit more about the origins. I am a sucker for the history. This fast paced book left me needing answers, looking forward to the next book! Thank you so much to the author for gifting me a copy!

I really like how the author creates intricate characters with depth and mystery and builds a wonderous world around them and then brings in characters and places from previous books building upon stories that were already excellent! In Bite Me we get a bit of a glimpse into Mac's life in Guild City. Mac is also learning about her prior life, which it seems, is not what she remembers it to be. A mysterious handsome stranger, Drakon of Dracul, the First Vampire, accuses Mac of burying him alive and threatens to kill her if she doesn’t help him solve a problem. His plans to kill her change when he finds her useful and then become much more. They are pulled together while trying to solve the mystery that Drakon is not willing to tell Mac about. Mac discovers new skills she didn't know she had, we get to see her use some of her fighting skills too. There is an evil secret society that Drakon wants to infiltrate that involve some dangerous trials that they, and the other contenders for the open slots in the society, must pass or die trying. Mac and Drakon go from having a relationship that is bitter hate to something hot going on. The book ends in an unexpected cliff hanger. I can not wait for the next book!

I read a lot of books. To tell the truth, I often find myself skimming the boring parts these days.

Then I find a book like Bite Me. Not only were there no boring parts, the story had me sucked in and enthralled in a way that I have rarely been this year.

The dialogue is snappy, the story a genuine mystery, with pacing that is simply superb! Linsey Hall has taken familiar tropes and presented them in a new and inventive way. As one of the many who are somewhat burned out on the "brooding vampire meets female badass" thing, I have to applaud the author for being able to make a story like this fun again!

If you like vampire stories... no, If you like GOOD vampire stories... Then this book is a must read! Five stars!

I knew this story had to be epic because it was about our favorite rough bartender! And Linsey didn't disappoint. This is a fated mates tale. If this is your first Linsey Hall book you chose a great spin off. That's right if you want to know where it all started read Ancient Magic. Anyway Mac finds out a hot mysterious stranger has been asking about her. He's incredibly powerful and has danger written all over him. Yet she drawn to him. He asks her to help him over the weekend but is vague with the details. Basically he was asked to join an evil society. He has different reasons for going. Did I mention he thinks Mac tried to kill him 5 years ago?She thinks he's mistaken, but can tell he believes it. She agrees to help him over the weekend. She may have over sold her seer powers. And the longer they are around the stronger the connection between them. Did I mention he wants to kill her for revenge? Oops! You have to read how bad my girl Mac is. How can you not love a girl that likes to blow stuff up?

I really loved the first three Lindsey hall series I read, but by the fourth I felt like I was reading the same story over and over again with slight variations and name changes. I tried again with this book but it’s still the same formulaic stuff. She’s a decent writer but I’m kind of horrified people still read her books when they literally are all the same.

I like Mac. I really do. I like her strength and her attitude. I kinda like Drakon, but I haven’t totally decided. I am intrigued by the ideas in this story, but it feels like the author is taking FOREVER to get there. And paranormal creatures may live a long time, but us mere mortals may not.

Mac is the type of main character I like to read. She seems like she knows who she is and what she wants out of life. She doesn’t let anyone push her around and stands up for herself when necessary. She’s the type of person I’d like to be. But she also has a dark side. One I don’t actually have a problem with. I feel like I should dislike the violent side of her, but the truth is I respect it. Sometimes, fools just don’t listen or learn, and you need to take a more hands on approach.

The action in this book is easy to follow and picture, while also being exciting enough to keep things moving. I didn’t realize there were other books tied into this one, so at the time, I felt like I was missing little details that would have made the story better. Like the friendships and backstories. You can definitely read this without having read the other books, but I think you’d probably enjoy it more if you’d read the other books. I never felt confused or anything, but those little details would have enriched the storytelling a little bit.

The chemistry between Drakon and Mac is good. I like the way they interact, even though there is some animosity on Drakon’s part that Mac has no memory of. They work well together and are pretty funny when working on the same side and not trying to kill each other. That whole Bride thing had me intrigued, so I will be checking out the next book in the series to see where the author is going with it.

It’s so good to dive in a story full of characters and places you love and still have the chance to meet new ones. This time Guild City brings Mac’s story and the first vampire - Drakon, enemies to lovers. A story that will keep you gripped from the very beginning, full of suspense, mystery, a touch of a romance in the air, and, of course, all of it in a fast paced narrative. A serie that you should take a ride.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A page-turner!!
Reviewed in Germany on August 19, 2021
I have always been a fan of the supernatural world, specially vampires ever since Twilight sparked my love for reading when I was 12 years old. Bite me is a very fast-paced PNR with all types of supernatural creatures who live in secret among the humans. Mac is a seer who works in The Haunted Hound bar, a portal that leads to the hidden magical city in London, Guild City.

Mac's world turns upside down when a absurdly hot and yet dangerously powerful vampire walks in the bar. He turns out to be the First vampire ever created and he believes, without a doubt, that Mac is his fated bride and that she tried to kill him 5 years ago and he has come to return the favor.

What a page-turner! I really liked the main character Mac, she is badass, independent and determined. I love her friendship with the other supernaturals in Guild city and how she has worked hard to establish a reputation for herself. In walks Drakon and I couldn't put the book down, this is definitely a binge worthy read. These two characters don't trust each other at all, in fact they want to kill one another, and yet you can feel the sparks and attraction between them. I love the entire fated-bride premonition and how it works. I was hoping for more spice but the slow-burn romance turned out to be very enjoyable! I feel like I will see some sizzling scenes in the sequel!

What would you do if a super hot vampire enters a bar and accuses you of burying him alive five years ago? I would panic. Not Mac, though. Of course she’s scared and freaked out, but she will throw an explosive potion in his face if she must. Yes, because Mac’s absolutely certain she’s never seen Drakon of Dracul, the First vampire. Yet Drakon has no doubt. It was her, his Bride. Upon learning that she’s a seer, Drakon agrees not to kill Mac yet if she agrees to help him infiltrate a secret society and find out their secrets. Mac agrees, determined to use the opportunity to prove her innocence.

This book was a very fast read because of its fast pace and intriguing plot. I had fun reading about Mac and Drakon and, as usual when a mystery is involved, I love investigating and trying to piece things together. Drakon is convinced that Mac buried him alive five years ago. If it’s true, why doesn’t she remember? And what does Drakon want from this secret society? There was hardly a dull moment in this book.

As for the romance, there is an instant attraction between the two mixed with rivalry and resentment on his part. An understanding forms between them during the course of the book, though it’s not love yet. One could say Mac and Drakon’s is a sizzling slow burn. I’m really curious to see how their story progresses and see their connection growing even more—especially seeing how the book ends! There is one detail though: we find out rather quickly that Mac is supposed to be Drakon’s Bride, which is a sort of fated lover but more epic since he is the First. Not surprising, it’s the synopsis as well. However, I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had been a twist in the book that we find out alongside Mac, rather than Drakon telling us almost immediately.

Mac has a group of amazing friends, particularly two: Carrow and Eve. While I was reading, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was a bigger deal to these characters besides being Mac’s friends. I mean, one of them is with someone they call the Devil of Darkvale. The name seems too cool to be only a minor character. Doing a quick research, I found out I was right! Carrow and Eve are the protagonists of two other series in the Shadow Guild universe. Guess who’s curious to read those now? Yes, me. Does this mean you will not understand Bite Me if you haven’t read the other series? Absolutely not. I have never read anything by this author before but I was able to enjoy this book just fine. There was also a cameo of one of the characters from Wolf Marked by Veronica Douglas, which I read and loved earlier this month! The authors are friends and have also co-written a series together, so it was so cool to read!

I recommend this to paranormal lovers, especially if you’re into vampires!
