Blood Lines: An absolutely gripping thriller that will have you hooked (Detective Kim Stone Crime Thriller Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 26,311 ratings

How do you catch a killer who leaves no trace?

A victim killed with a single, precise stab to the heart appears at first glance to be a robbery gone wrong. A caring, upstanding social worker lost to a senseless act of violence. But for
Detective Kim Stone, something doesn’t add up.

When a local drug addict is found murdered with an identical wound, Kim knows instinctively that she is dealing with the same killer. But with nothing to link the two victims except the cold, calculated nature of their death, this could be her most difficult case yet.

Desperate to catch the twisted individual, Kim’s focus on the case is threatened when she receives a chilling letter from
Dr Alex Thorne, the sociopath who Kim put behind bars. And this time, Alex is determined to hit where it hurts most, bringing Kim face-to-face with the woman responsible for the death of Kim’s little brother – her own mother.

As the body count increases, Kim and her team unravel a web of dark secrets, bringing them closer to the killer. But one of their own could be in mortal danger. Only this time, Kim might not be strong enough to save them…

A totally gripping thriller that will have you hooked from the very first page to the final, dramatic twist.

Can be read as a standalone.

Angela Marsons is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author of the DI Kim Stone series and her books have sold more than 5 million in 7 years.

She lives in Worcestershire with her partner and their 2 cheeky Golden Retrievers.

She first discovered her love of writing at Junior School when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read "Angela would do well if she minded her own business as well as she minds other people's".

After years of writing relationship based stories (The Forgotten Woman and Dear Mother) Angela turned to Crime, fictionally speaking of course, and developed a character that refused to go away.

She is signed to Bookouture.com for a total of 28 books in the Kim Stone series and her books have been translated into 30 languages.

Many of her books, including Blood Lines, Dead Souls, Broken Bones, Fatal Promise and Dead Memories reached the #1 spot on Amazon on pre-orders alone and the translation of Dead Souls, La Verita Sepolte, recently won the prestigious Primo Bancarella award.

What a wonderful author! The characters are real and broken but authentic. Kim is hard to get along with but cares very deeply for her team. Although the book is about the case and a confrontation with Kim’s nemesis, Alexandra. Even during her lowest times or hardest times for the case she shows her team respect and caring mentorship, even when they may not deserve it. Dawson does a dumb thing that cost them time and energy but she took the blame for his mistake as it was her team and no she would not reveal who had made the error. I am a real Kim Stone fan. Looking forward to reading all of the books in the series. Keep them coming!!!

Blood Lines is one of the more complex books in the series. The main crime follows a spate of seemingly unrelated murders that are stumping Kim. Meanwhile the psycho Alex (from book 2) is in prison and back to her devious ways. Alex has an appeal trial looming and will do anything to be free. The book also contains darker memories from someone... but who? O... and Kim might have a stalker.

So there is a lot going on but I liked the novel overall. I thought that the ending was wrapped too fast but at least nothing was left hanging. The Dawson POV's seemed pointless, but maybe they will be used to setup something in the next book.

    Positives:
+ Interesting. Both the main crime and the behind the scenes drama with Alex.
    + Kim. I love her.

    Negatives:
+ Ending felt sloppy. Wrapped up way to fast and with not enough detail. Some of the subplots felt half-assed because of this ending.

Angela Marsons has developed a team of British detectives who are very believable. As I have read each book, I have "seen" the characters' personalities become more developed. I would like to learn more about Stacey. Although she plays a vital role in the investigations, I do not know her as well as the other three. The books are about solving each case, but they also contain the human element of the main characters.
Each book may be read individually, but I have enjoyed reading them in order, I like knowing about the details of each case when they are referenced in other books. Also, knowing the characters and learning more about them in each sequential book makes each book more enjoyable to me.
As I have read each of the five books, I have been transported to England. Although I am not familiar with any part of the country, I have my own scenes in my head from the author's descriptions. The amount of description is another part of the books that I really like. Angela, the author, does not bog the reader down with too much detail of the description but gives enough for the reader to be able to see the scene and fill in any needed details.
These five thrillers are excellent. Each story line is believable and keeps the reader's attention throughout. I imagine some people read and try to solve and predict what will happen while others read for the enjoyment of the story and just like to read and discover the events as they unfold. I am avidly awaiting the next book to be published. I hope it will be soon.

DI Kim Stone and DS Bryant are called to the scene of a murder at 2 a.m. A woman named Deanna Brightman has been stabbed to death in her car. She worked at Children’s Services. As the investigation begins, another voice from the past is back.

Dr. Alexandra Thorne makes a comeback in this book and she’s still up to her old tricks even though she is remanded to a fairly relaxed prison. Frustrated by what she sees as her attorney’s lack of action in freeing her, she makes her own plan. And, of course, that plan involves manipulating DI Stone to insanity. She’s having a grand old time in prison, manipulating the other prisoners and scheming.

The investigation of Mrs. Brightman’s death moves forward. Her husband seems truly upset, but her sister is more than a little off-putting. When another body in found in the woods, it steps up the investigation. Although nothing like Deanna Brightman, Maxine Wakeman has the same wound type and it looks to be the same weapon that killed her with a single stab wound. After speaking again to the part-time housekeeper of the Brightman’s, Kim and her team just might have a potential suspect.

After learning of the death of a seven-year old boy in the same manner, Kim and Bryant finally come up with the link they needed to move the case forward.

After an exciting denouement, the killer is caught. The identity of the killer came as a complete surprise to me.

This is a very well written and plotted novel. It starts out suspenseful which gradually increases throughout the novel. I appreciate the way the team gets along. There were a few bumps within the team in this book, but it all was smoothed out in the end. Ms. Marsons is a remarkable author, and I can hardly until I dig into the next in this series.

I really enjoyed the first four books in this series but this one gave me a bit of trouble. Nothing major, just a few annoying things. I am from America so maybe the way the author writes and places the pronouns like him/her etc. is what threw me off. I had to read some sentences several times before I realized it wasn't a typo and then it made sense to me. I also didn't figure out who the "writer" of the diary was until I asked another Goodreads friend to clue me in. I also had trouble keeping the 2 moms and the sister straight. Other than those quirky things I enjoyed it. I loved that she wove the story so skillfully to include Dr. Alex Thorne, her old nemeses. I'd forgotten how horrible she was and loved it at the same time! Hope she makes another appearance.

the writing style is good, not extraordinary. but the stories are really gripping. I really like the characters, so I keep reading every single book of the series.
another thing that bugs me, is the references to the previous cases. it’s annoying, if you’ve read them in order, like every normal person would do when starting a series.

Fantastic characterisation and understanding of Human nature and the evil that can be hidden. I'm going to re-read all five books cause I loved them so much. When I read her books I have to keep going as I need to know how it all turns out. Love feisty Kim, a great character. Keep them coming Angela, eagerly awaiting your next one.
