About the Author

J. J. Arias is an independent author of lesbian romantic fiction. Her books include Guava Flavored Lies, the Goode Girl Lesbian Romance series, and the Dusk Queen series. Her writing journey began with fan faction, and as much as she loved being part of a community of super fans, she got tired of working with other people's characters to tell her stories. She started asking herself: Why should we string together pieces of subtext when our community deserves well-developed main-text about LBGT people and those who love them? So, that is what she aims to deliver.

Carrie Coello appeared in her first play at age seven, as a cranky, middle-aged fortune teller. Ever since, she's sought out characters that enlighten, entertain, and hold a mirror up to the human condition. After spending a decade working in film, and another decade educating children, she's come full circle as a performer, narrating audiobooks from her Seattle studio. She collaborates with authors and publishers to bring flesh and blood to words on the page, with humor and a deep understanding of what makes people tick. Carrie draws upon her own lived experience to portray lesbian and bisexual protagonists under the pseudonym Lois Ridge.     I wasn't sure about the reality TV premise at first, but it quickly provided both a solid framing device for the two love interests and an engaging plot that had every reason to steam ahead at all times. Having it be only a series of challenges and not including any of the social weaseling cut out a lot of stuff that could have gotten in the way.

    Both characters are similar in terms of impressive athleticism and there is plenty of loving detail describing them. Very well written, and makes sure to highlight their differences.

    Very steamy and intense sex scenes, and I was impressed at the intensity while still sticking to the less-explicit set of romance novel vocabulary (not that there's anything wrong with that).

    A great read overall.

    I don’t even read the blurbs for Arias’ books, just download them. They are all good. The Dust Queen Series is my fave, but this one is up there. I enjoyed the mix of hard and soft emotions between the MCs as well as the situation they were in. It was all a bit messy so felt believable.

    This was a delightful book, very entertaining and quite hilarious. Loved their arguments, bickering and consequent mending. Oh and boy did they have some sparks going on for them here?! I loved even more the fact that the typical conflict (ya know, that one about 70% or 80%) was basically inexistent, there was some tension, but that's the extension of it. And for me it was just the right choice, because they already were at odd for over half of the story, adding more heavy friction would have been just plain mean, IMHO, hahaha.

    For those who don't like much sporty stories, but would like to give it a try, I think this one could be a hit. I mean, it doesn't quite take a back sit, but their relationships, the romance is really front and centre here. So fear not. For those like me who likes a good sporty book, then it's even better, there's romance and it's all seasoned with the MC being total baddies.

    Totally recommend it.

    p.s.: ngl, that first "Hola, mãe" got me thinking "oh no, here we go again with google translator Portuguese", but I'm glad I was proven wrong, I figured it was a deliberate choice by J.J. because everything else, even though sparse throughout the story, were on point and this kind of attention to details makes my little Brazilian heart happier.
