Broken Parts Included: A Sapphic Romance Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 278 ratings

For as long as Lydia Archer can remember, her life has been a balancing act between a tireless battle with her health and the tireless search for "the one." She's put herself out there time and again, yet still, has found nobody prepared for the rollercoaster of her mystery ailment. Persistent pain and dismissive doctors are Lydia’s constant shadow. Just as Lydia begins to think that her beloved pup Monty is the only one who can handle her brokenness, her sister’s best friend, Halle, steps in to save her health and quite possibly, her heart.
Just as Lydia is on the mend, the unexpected arrival of love threatens to throw everything off balance. And to top it off, as a friendship blossoms between Lydia and Halle, Lydia’s sister Fe finds herself grappling with her own whirlwind of emotions. Throw in the delightful chaos of Lydia's "niblings," Fe’s mischievous triplets, and this sapphic romance weaves a tale of healing and love, reminding us that sometimes both can be found in the most unexpected places.
Lydia's journey is one of resilience, family, self-discovery, and the promise that true love accepts us for the whole—broken parts included—because love has a way of piecing things back together.

I give it a 4.5I love how a not widely discussed topic was brought to light in a real way. While there wasn’t a lot of spice, there was a better variety of spice than what I have been reading lately. Even the hetero couple was adorable.I appreciated how real the struggles and worries in this book were. My ex has endometriosis and she suffered almost all the same symptoms Lydia did at one point or another. She also went through the same issue of dealing with a doctor that wasn’t really trying to help her or listen to her. Being part of Lydia’s journey of navigating life and love while attempting to manage an underrepresented and often misunderstood medical condition was a gift.Overall the representation this was the best book I’ve read so far this year. The only thing I didn’t like was the in the epilogue. While I agree that Lydia deserved a happy ending, everything turned out a little too storybook/Disney.

I won't go over the storyline since others have already done so. I just wanted to mention that I love everything Alyson Root has written. Her books are so down to earth, and her characters are "us", relatable and human. She writes truth. Emotionally, physically and mentally her characters touch us all in some way. Whether it's broken body parts, emotional insecurities or dealing with doctors ignoring us, it's easy to realize her incite is personal. Most importantly she is not afraid to put it out there. What we cannot say in words, she does for us. Alyson is a gifted writer, and I am glad we all get to enjoy her talent.

Alyson Root has taken on a really tough medical condition that I have first, well I guess second hand experience with! She has written a story close to my heart as experience with severe endometriosis descended upon my wife, the symptoms so devastating emotionally and physically that eventually led to several surgeries. The sensitivity the characters display is truly exceptional. The doctors rarely understand fully what the woman is going through unless they are female. It is a difficult road to follow and this story is accurate for many. The love that is secure in the main characters is necessary for them to survive. This read is well worth the time.

We are all perfectly imperfect. To wholeheartedly see all flaws and love them unconditionally is a way to know that you have your person. We are all broken but are also whole. Our cracks are what makes us who we are. And if we find that someone that sees us for who we are, then, hold to them. Because that is your HEA.

As someone with my own health challenges, I get the MC way more than I would like.

And it was really special to read about someone who, while broken differently, was still broken, and who needed a lot of help, and was still made happy.

I think I'm going to remember this one for a while.

(And much like the MC, I had to work too hard to not be down on myself in this review. Thank you Alyson Root for making that just a little bit easier.)

This was a well written story with an interesting collection of characters who seemed to gell. It's weird that the main character was able to pull off a wild night of Sapphic sex with a virtually stranger, and yet she couldn't commit herself to someone who really did care for her.

Wow, when I think this author can't possible write a better story than the last, BAM! Here you go. As always, the depth of the characters, details and storyline were on point. I so wanted to wrap Lydia in a big hug and where can I find a women like Halle? This book has a the feels! If it's not at the top of your reading list, you are missing out! Go get this book, immediately!!!! You will not regret it.

I have really enjoyed all the books I've read from Alyson Root. This is a little different than her usual stories, in that it's a bit sadder but it is definitely no less enjoyable. I loved Halle and Lydia and the development of their relationship. I loved Halle's unwavering support in trying to help Lydia get the answers she so desperately needed. The portrayal of Lydia's doctor's dismissal of her issues was such realistic subject as most women have experienced this at one time or another. The secondary characters were great. Fe was not my favorite character, her selfishness made me not like her. Cathy was a hilarious and such an awesome friend. I can't recommend this book enough.

It's too bad so many writers gunk up a perfectly good story with too many pages of gratuitous sex. Waste of story, and pages. This would have otherwise been a 4 star book. It had great characters, with good humor. A good plot, and flow to it. It could have had more commas, as not to have run-on sentences, but it wasn't bad. As you can see, I'm not that good with them either, but I'm not a writer.

Everyone deserves a Halle in their life. Seriously, she was amazing. I love her, and it was so adorable when she was freaking out.
Being in Lydia head was incredibly relatable. I love its so okay to be messy/broken. We are only human, after all.
Their relationship was fast, but there were a lot of circumstances, so it felt alright.

Highly recommend reading this book. It's perfectly imperfect <3

I am left speechless really, I don't think I have felt so emotional reading a book, in all senses, in a way it was like reading my story on the medical front and it truly made me realise that back when I had all those problems from the early 90s I wasn't alone, I guess it highlights different topics and beautifully written. I really did enjoy it, so touching.

A thorough look into women’s health! It was such a brilliantly written story. The main character’s “mystery” malady was discussed so very intimately I was mind blown by how accurately it was portrayed.

All the side characters were written so “perfectly imperfect” as well and their personal development were all so natural and true to life that it was so easy to get invested in them. Safe to say, Alyson Root is now added to the list of authors of whom I read their entire bibliography.
