While Louise and Ben, her black Labrador retriever, are out on their morning walk around the lake, Ben discovers a severed hand. He leads Louise to the rest of the body, but they cross paths with the masked killer. Assaulted and left for dead, the body is nowhere to be found when Louise regains consciousness.

Could the killer be a member of the Guns, Poisons, and Daggers group of mystery writers who booked cabins for the upcoming weekend? Perhaps a writer taking novel research a bit too far?
