Wanting the Winger (Charleston Coyotes Hockey Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,071 ratings

My dad has been the coach of the Charleston Coyotes for as long as I can remember. All the time I’ve spent in ice rinks has taught me two things:

1. I will NEVER date a hockey player.

As a single mom, it’s not like I have time for romance anyway.

2. Nothing smells worse than hockey players after a game.

And I work as a dog groomer, so I have experience with smelly animals.

It’s amazing how quickly my rules are forgotten when Darius walks into my pet salon.

Tall, dark, and tattooed with rippling muscles and a perfect smile must be my kryptonite, because I find myself agreeing to go out with him.

But we’re both keeping secrets we’re not ready to share. And when they finally come out, everything changes between us.

I do my best to keep my distance from him.

Yet, the more I fight my feelings, the more I find myself wanting the winger.

This is a standalone feel good low angst opposites attract sports romance where the swoony Greek hero falls first and hard for the single mom heroine.

I love hockey, so obviously, hockey romance is the best.

We start off with the winger for The Charleston Coyotes.
Darius Kastellanos has played hockey with the same team professionally for six years and with the same coach.
He is normally recognized in public a lot.
At 26, he's not a player. He wants the kinda relationship his parents have shared for 35 years.
When he goes to pick up Brutus, his loveable dog, from the pet groomer, he is greeted with rainbow leopard spots painted on him.

When Evie realizes the colossal mistake she's made, she figures she'll lose her job.
She doesn't recognize Darius because she doesn't follow hockey.

Darius graciously offers to just pay for it because she gets emotional from the bad day she's having.
Never mind that it added an extra $200 on to his now $500 bill.

It takes two weeks, but he can't get her out of his mind.
There's something about her that he's drawn to, and so he takes a chance to figure out what it might be and asks her out.

Evie Bruschi had a daughter, Tillie, when she was 17, and now at 25, she's never been in another relationship other than high school.
She and her baby daddy are best friends, but nothing more.
She's not really looking for a relationship, but one it seems may have found her.

When they meet up at a banquet, she realizes that he's a hockey player, and she doesn't date hockey players.
He realizes that she's the coach's daughter.

Even though this makes things more complicated, it doesn't change the fact that he loves her and he's going to do whatever it takes to be in their lives, no matter what.

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

Very sweet romance with low angst, a cinnamon roll H, cute meet cute, “he falls first”, sweet kid, cute dog (sorta), single mom with great relationship with her ex, supportive families, no ow/om drama. Angst comes from H hiding his pro hockey career from the h, who hates hockey and everything about it. If you’re looking for a super sweet romance, this is for you. Open bedroom, but not very explicit (more PG-13 than NR lol). Sometimes you need a break from the dark, the bully, the tragedy, the alpha, the angsty angst, and this would be perfect for a change of pace. My only negative is it felt like Chance has an underlying agenda to promote the sweetness and gentleness of pit bulls. A little preachy about promoting pit bulls imo. A loose pit bull attacked my shepherd lab mix that I was walking on a leash. I was injured in the ensuing chaos. There have been several tragic pit bull attacks against people in my community just this year. No other breeds were involved. So I have my own history with this breed and I didn’t enjoy reading about how misunderstood they are. He could have written about a sweet, well behaved dog without preaching about ‘pitties’ to make a point unrelated to the story.

A little too shallow and fast-paced for me. I’m very little spice. Definitely not what I’m looking for. There isn’t a lot of talk about actual hockey in the book. The Mehl lead is a really good character. There’s Insta love and I just don’t feel it with this book.

Sigh! I loved the heart, sizzle and laughs that Wanting The Winger delivered. What a fantastic start to this brand new sports romance series. Darius and Evie were a breath of fresh air that I loved. I enjoyed their chemistry, banter, and swoony moments. It’s sweet, sexy and romantic, and I loved it!

Darius and Evie are wonderful characters – instantly loveable and relatable, and I adored them so much. These two had such dynamic passion and chemistry from the very beginning. Every interaction proved this more and more, but what I loved the most was Darius’ protective warmth. The way he cares and loves and the huge heart that he has. It’s such a beautiful love story, with a couple with so much chemistry. Darius and Evie stole my heart with their swoony, emotional love story. This is a delightfully fun and witty romance that will have you laughing out loud while swooning at the same time. Darius and Evie are perfectly imperfect, and I loved every single moment of their story.

This is the first book I have read by Jacob Chance. I wasn't sure going in if I would like a male author writing romance but this man here knows how to tell a great story with spice.

He took me by surprise since it was also a self recommendation on a Facebook group. So happy I took the rec and found my new favorite hockey team to love. Diving into book two next.

Wanting the Winger is an unforgettable romance that had me under its spell from the beginning to long after "the end". This book had everything I want in a romance – heart, passion, humor, and emotion. The storyline was powerfully moving, emotionally raw, and breathtakingly romantic. Darius and Evie stole my heart. Their connection was intense and undeniable, chemistry electric, and passion explosive. I simply fell further in love with these characters and their story with each turn of the page. The story was relatable and felt so real; I was rooting for these two. Their journey together was beautifully written, and I felt every emotion the characters experienced; they radiated from the pages. Oh, and those swoon-worthy moments… absolutely breathtaking. A heartfelt story of taking chances and finding love when you least expect it. I loved every second of this incredible book and only wish it was longer. I have a new favorite book by this author. This is one book you want to read!!

My heart swooned a few times reading this one. He is just so sweet, and his love is quick. I love how Evie found herself and her voice with her Dad. She can kick but when she needs to.

This story of Darius and Evie was fantastic. Jacob Chance has written wonderful characters who appeal to this reader. Darius is a tough hockey player but a softie down deep and the way that he cares for Evie and her daughter Tillie is so heartwarming. It’s taken a few stories to knock my previous top hockey#1 Clancy off his perch, but Darius has done it.
