Cold Feet Fever: Hilarious, Heartwarming & Hot Romantic Suspense (The Fever Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 35 ratings

Secrets and crime have never been so funny—or so romantic

★★★★★ “I didn't want this book to end. But when it did, I was still smiling.
★★★★★ I highly recommend COLD FEET FEVER as one of the most fun reads you’ll enjoy all year.”

An irresistible bad boy struggles to turn his life around:
Barred from casinos, gambler Sam Jackson has spent his winnings and must take a ‘real’ job. Turns out operating Kinki, a glitzy paranormal nightclub in Atlantic City, isn’t as easy—or as much fun—as he’d anticipated. Someone’s trying to shut him down before he opens, he’s on the verge of bankruptcy, his family issues are out-of-control, and his matchmaking granddaddy has hired a sexy event planner with a mysterious background, bossy disposition, and criminal ties.

A mortician-turned-event-planner with big secrets will do anything escape her past:
A job as event planner offers single mom, Katie Deluca, her last chance to change her destiny. Turns out party planning is more difficult than organizing funerals, especially when her criminal stalker appeals his murder conviction. Plus her new boss, although perfect for awakening her sensuality, couldn't be more wrong for the stability she craves for her son.

Forced to collaborate, they defeat obstacles and fight crime:
Fighting their growing attraction, the couple tangles with vandalism, Katie’s lethal stalker, a goofy dog, ruthless thugs, a building inspector on the warpath, exploding trucks, an eccentric granddaddy, disappearing corpses, an unfortunate synchronized swimming episode, and the threat of live cremation, all in attempt to deliver a grand opening the vampire wannabes of Atlantic City will never forget.

Does Sam resolve his family issues and salvage his nightclub? Does Katie escape her stalker to pull off a memorable grand opening? Scroll up to buy this book and start reading today!

★★★★★ "the perfect blend of romance, comedy and mystery."
★★★★★ "a wonderful hilarious comedy … a warm & enjoyable read"
★★★★★ “To call COLD FEET FEVER a page turner is a disservice. This is a page devourer.”

EXCERPT:

Her breath hitched in her chest. “I’m afraid I might disappoint you.”
His fingers stilled. “Why on earth would you think that?”
“I … um … may not have the skill you expect in a date.” After a long pause, he said,
“Excuse me?” The two soft words reverberated in the quiet kitchen.
She chewed her lip, then said, “I’ve only done it twice, well two and a half times to be precise, and it didn’t work out so well.” She clamped her mouth shut. Luckily she’d caught herself before divulging her partner’s jackrabbit ejaculation.
Sam remained utterly still.
Afraid to turn around, she nodded. “Uh-huh. I was too young to realize it wasn’t normal. I thought it was my fault. There’s no need to worry, though. I’m sure I can satisfy your needs. I’m a self-trained expert on sexual gratification.”
Warm breath stirred her hair. “Self-trained?”
Had she said something wrong? “Yes. I’m a voracious reader. I’ve read tons of how-to books on sexual intercourse, everything from The Joy of Sex, to Kama Sutra.” She hoped her sincerity would reassure him.
“Katie—”
“I also studied the Fifty Shades Trilogy and other erotic novels. I have a subscription to Cosmo. There’s a huge amount of educational help available, so I’m certain I’m competent.”
Was it her imagination, or did his fingers fumble?
“That’s commendable and, uh, extremely proactive of you,” he said in a choked voice. “But right now, I’m as far from worried as a man can get.”

Cold Feet Fever follows Katerina (Katie) DeLuca and Sam Jackson, as they work together towards the grand opening of Atlantic City's newest nightclub, which was a former fetish club called Kinki. This is a fun ride that includes romance, toe curling 'sexy' scenes, a wacky grandfather who has a knack for getting himself into trouble, mob ties, murders, a dog with a sensitive stomach, and so much more. So. Much. More. To call Cold Feet Fever a page turner is a disservice. This is a page devourer (I Googled that one, and it is, apparently, a word). I couldn't read it fast enough. When I wasn't reading, I was thinking about the book and the characters and what happened next. Even when doing VERY important things that deserved 100% of my attention (apologies to my husband....).

Maureen Fisher did a phenomenal job of creating characters you couldn't help but love. Even the bumbling gangsters. On more than one occasion, I clapped my hand over my mouth to stifle the laughter at the antics of Rex the dog, such as when he had consumed countless spicy sausages, which effectively broke up a very poignant dramatic moment in the book, and in a way that a pet owner would appreciate. I didn't want this book to end. But when it did, I was still smiling. I'm thinking of it right now and am grinning. I highly recommend Cold Feet Fever as one of the most fun reads you will enjoy all year. This is part 2 of a series, so I'm on my way to get part 1 to see if there are any more for me to read.

About the Author

Maureen Fisher is the author of sassy romance novels containing dollops of adventureand enough steamy sex to drive those who dare read them racing for a cold shower ...

Transplanted from Scotland to Canada at the tender age of seven, Maureen Fisher now lives with her second husband in Ottawa, Ontario. After spending eons in the IT world, she grew weary of wearing snappy power suits, squeezing into panty hose, and fighting rush hour traffic. She made a life-changing decision to write books. Not dry, boring, technical treatises, but fresh, funny romantic suspense novels.Besides writing, Maureen is a voracious reader and volunteer for an addiction family counseling program. She is also a bridge player, yoga practitioner, seeker of personal and spiritual growth, pickle ball enthusiast, and an infrequent but avid gourmet cook. She and her husband love to hike, bicycle, and travel. She has swum with sharks in the Galapagos, walked with Bushmen in the Serengeti, sampled lamb criadillas (don't ask!!!) in Iguazu Falls, snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef, ridden an elephant in Thailand, watched the sun rise over Machu Picchu, and bounced from Johannesburg to Cape Town in a bus called 'Marula'.

I'm an author of funny & furry adventures & misadventures, guaranteed to tickle the funny bone, lift the spirits, & warm the heart! All my books contain characters you can relate to, an animal or two, and always romance of varying quantities and heat levels along with tons of humor. As Charlie Chaplin once said, “A day without humor is a day wasted.”

Transplanted from Scotland to Canada at the tender age of seven, I'm a voracious reader, community volunteer, bridge player, yoga enthusiast, seeker of personal and spiritual growth, pickleball enthusiast, and infrequent but avid gourmet cook. As an escapee from the I.T. arena, I love to hike, bike, and travel, mostly with my husband and, occasionally, alone. I have swum with sharks in the Galapagos, walked with Bushmen in the Serengeti, sampled lamb criadillas (don’t ask!!!) in Iguazu Falls, snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef, ridden an elephant in Thailand, watched the sun rise over Machu Picchu, and bounced from Johannesburg to Cape Town on a bus called ‘Marula’.

Some quotes:

“You are a great writer, scratch that you are phenomenal. The way you have projected each and every character is remarkable. Vivid description make you visualize the book like a movie. For me it’s a must read. And yes, last but not the least, I will surely buy your other books after I finish my exams.”

"Maureen combines action, adventure, romance, mystery, and an often LOL sense of humor in her page-turning novels. They are the perfect additions to your electronic libraries, like da rum and da coconut in your piña coladas."

I loved the humor, the characters, and the plot. Katie wants to get out of the undertaking business and is hired as an event planner by a sweet old man who is partners with his grandson in a new night club named Kinki. It's a gothic themed club with rooms like Dracula's Lair and the Mermaid room. Katie also has a secret. She has a suiter who is linked to the mob and won't take no for an answer. Although Luigi is in jail at the moment, he has thugs who work for him and is able to keep an eye on Katie. The grandson, Sam, who is partners with the old man, falls for Katie. Someone is out to destroy the club as they get ready for it's grand opening. There is humor galor, action, and of course attraction between Katie and Sam. I enjoyed this very much. There is always something happening as they try to find out who is behind the destruction of the various rooms and is trying to sabatage the club opening. An over-all fun book.

One of the most exciting, heart-grabbing, intense, and best books I’ve read in a long time! I absolutely LOVED the characters, every one of them — they are realistic, believable, complex, and touching. This story is incredibly exciting and filled with escalating danger and tension — it grabbed me from the very beginning and never let go. I could not put this book down. My heart ached for them! I loved the mystery, constantly building tension, incredible danger, and the hot, sizzling romance! Very well written, well edited, and well paced, with so many threads running throughout the story — this was an amazing, exciting, and heart-grabbing story. I can’t say enough good things about this — I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it! Maureen is a truly talented author, and I can’t wait to read more of her books!

It has everything a great book should have. Romance, excitement, tension, laughter, and a terrific plot with a good setting. Katie wants out of the undertaking business, so she becomes an event planner. When she is hired by a sweet old man to set up the grand opening of Kinky, a themed nightclub, she gets more than just event planning to deal with. With a mafia guy wanting her to be his wife, she has much to worry about. Especially since she doesn't want him. Then there is Sam, the grandson of that sweet old guy. Wow! Is he drop-down gorgeous, or what? Great story. I couldn't put it down.

(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

If you’re familiar with romance books, you’ve read countless stories featuring a playboy with a heart of gold and/or a single mom who’ll do anything to ensure her child has a bright future. You’ll also recognize a theme here, which can be found in other romantic tales: Playboy doesn’t want to fall in love because love is messy – complicated. The woman vows sex without strings is what she wants because she has no interest in falling in love either. As you might’ve guessed, they fall in love.

What you might not have read before is a heroine who happens to be an ex-mortician turned event planner. Different, right?

“Cold Feet Fever” also featured an energetic old man, Hiram, who’s heart was as big as his appetite. A heart who had plenty of room for the ladies. Yup, he might be labeled a “senior” but he had the libido of a man half his age.

Other cast members: I could discuss Katie’s family in detail but I think the food they dined on captured my interest more than the characters themselves. I’m a sucker for Italian cuisine. Lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli….. Mm, I’m with Sam, you can absolutely NOT go wrong with carbs.

Speaking of Sam, you have to appreciate a man who can turn any conversation sexual and drop innuendoes without batting an eye. Well, unless you count winking. He did that on occasion. 😉

Katie: Her resolve to keep things professional didn’t last very long. In fact, she made good use of all her sex research she’s absorbed throughout her celibate years.

Her roleplay scenario wasn’t inventive but, really, what guy would pass up the chance to have a slutty secretary ease their “tension”.

If all that doesn’t wet your whistle, how about the promise of a fire, explosion, kidnapping, gun battle, crooked politician, some crazies, and a glimpse into “The Joy of Sex”.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was great and so was the author's wit. I chuckled on many occasions. I also liked all the chaos she threw at Katie and Sam. They handled it the way most of us would. I like a book with awesome secondary characters too, and this book had them - especially Josh who won my heart, as well as Sam's dog Rex. The onset of attraction between Katie and Sam was early, but the romance wasn't rushed - big points for that. This was definitely 5 stars of enjoyment.

There's nothing better than great comedy and this has plenty. An unlikely team with excellent love-hate chemistry between them, Karie and Sam are sharing an office in preparation for a nightclub opening. Enter Rex the dog and you have cuteness added to romantic tension, hilarious comedy and a very entertaining and explosive plot.
There are many laugh out loud moments in this, original ideas and scenes, I don't want to spoil the surprises in store for you.
Fisher moves the plot along in a fast dramatic pace and never drops the ball. This is hugely enjoyable and highly recommended.

    Where to start?
There were too many logic-defying decisions. For all of Katie's sass, she was strangely helpless to deal with a man behind bars, and no one called the cops - ever. The excuses weren't sufficient. I didn't like either of the main characters.
This is marketed as comedy, but I didn't laugh once. Perhaps that's on me.
Finally, I found the quality of writing quite poor.
Two stars because I've read worse.
