Welcome to Camp Shifter… where you’ll change in more ways than one.

A camp where you go for a month and come out forever changed, with a fated mate and your true soul mate attached to you forever?

Where’s the sign-up form?

But there’s a catch: in this shifter world, you find out you’re a shifter in one of two mysterious ways… and you fall in love through pure acts of fate.

Welcome to this boxed set, full of stories featuring lots of insta-love, fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, rejected mates, and so much more.

Each book is a play on rock songs, with:

Owl Be Bear For You

Librarian Mara Scioto lives a nice, neat, orderly existence—except when she’s being attacked by uncontrolled male shifters who need to mate.

Pesky little detail, right?

Raised by a grandmother who hates all shifters, she has one wish: to make it past the age of twenty-five without experiencing The Morph that tells you you’re one of them.

And then the letter from Camp Shifter arrives with her name on it...

Orthopedic surgeon in training Jack Karsten is waiting to see if he’ll follow in his shifter brother’s footsteps. Being a shifter won’t be so bad, if that’s his destiny, but when he meets Mara, he realizes that fate and love don’t always align.

But love always wins.

It can be a bear of an ordeal sorting it all out, but if anyone can help, it’s the staff at Camp Shifter. While they’ll train Jack and Mara on the ways of shifter life, there’s one thing they can’t teach them:

How to get out of their own way and let love leave them changed.

Forever.

You Shook Me Howl Night Long

Eliot “Pole” Elianzo is a god in college football, and he knows it.

Too bad he’s also a polar bear.

The Morph happens on national television, right after a pro team picks him in the draft. It’s official–Pole is a shifter.

And boy, is he livid.

He can’t choose practice over his mandatory stay at Camp Shifter, but he sure can make camp a nightmare for everyone.

Especially the hot ash blonde who’s teaching Undressed in Public 101 classes.

Risa Devaneau can’t believe Pole’s in her class, in the first row, and very, very undressed. The former sportscaster and wolf shifter ran away from her testosterone-filled career for the quiet peace of Camp Shifter. Sure, teaching people how to be undressed in public isn’t exactly the most prestigious job, but it got her away from the city. From her overly controlling politician father. From her past.

From Pole.

And here he is, smirking at her, front and center.

In his birthday suit.

DarkNight of the Moon

He lurks in shadows and mystery at Camp Shifter, coming out only during DarkNight, the wild, bacchanalian free-for-all where anything goes.

Anything.

No one has seen him in the daylight, no one knows where he lives, no one knows his name–and the shifter nicknamed DarkLover by women, DarkDude by men, will do anything to keep it that way.

Andie Cumbington has been waiting her whole life for The Letter. One of the few shifters who is ecstatic about her newfound status, the chestnut-haired ballerina bear shifter arrives for her month at Camp Shifter with unbridled excitement. On her first DarkNight, she finds wild passion and–to her surprise–so much more, with a stranger who touches her heart as much as he lights up her body.

And then he’s gone, back into the shadows, hidden.

Exactly where he wants to be.

Craving his touch with an insatiable desire, Andie can’t let go. She always wanted the roll in the hay, but she never imagined the passion would be so intense.

Fate drives her to find love.

Then a simple errand turns into mortal danger for Andie, and an impossible choice as DarkLover must overcome his biggest fear in order to save the woman he loves.

But will it be too late?

Owl Be Bear For You

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Mara - she is a librarian who wants her life to be as ordered as her library. She hates July and August, peak shapeshifter season. It was always the new ones that hit on her when in their first morph. Untrained shifters were a public safety hazard and her town did drills just for that purpose. The shifters changed for the first time before their twenty fifth birthday. Mara grew up with a grandmother who hated all shifters and Mara learned from her. She had also been clawed by a bear shifter a few years back.

The Hero: Jack - he is an orthopedic surgeon who has a brother that is a shifter. He wondered if he would be as well since he was approaching his 25th birthday. He was working in the ER and wasn’t new to managing untrained shifters and their victims. Once a new shifter was found, they were shipped off to camp shifter to learn how to manage their shifts.

The Story: While Jack was at work, Mara came in unconscious to be treated after a lion shifter morphed in the library. Mara wasn’t hurt, she just fainted. However, Jack felt very protective of her. Especially after hearing about her previous attack by her ex-boyfriend, and the fact that she had to have surgery on her hip.

This series has shifters portrayed quite differently than in other shifter books I have read. Anyone could be a shifter, even if their parents weren’t and it always happened between the ages of 18 and 25. If you didn’t shift or get an invitation to camp shifter by your 25th birthday, then you are safe from the morph or the curse as some people think.

The story was pretty good in this book. Mara and Jack were attracted to each other from their first meeting and neither knew they were shifters at that point. Though when they both became shifters they ended up at camp shifter together and had to learn everything there was to know about their new selves.

This book was told in dual points of view by a dual narration. It and was narrated by Jeffery Kafer and Heather Costa. Jeffrey has a deep gravelly voice which I like though it reminded me a bit of a movie announcer or something. Heather has a feminine voice which is a bit hoarse but pleasant.

Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Risa - She is a wolf shifter and former sportscaster. For the last year and a half she has been working at Camp Shifter. She teaches the Naked in Public class, showing the campers how to love their bodies and get used to being naked in front of each other, since shifters have to get naked to shift and have to be used to nudity.

The Hero: Pole - he was a college football phenom and was looking forward to draft day so that he could get a huge contract and lots of endorsements. It was important to him because he was sponsoring his abuela and cousins to move to the United States and needed to pay for that and for cancer treatments for his abuela.

The Story: Risa and Pole were dating a while back until she got her invitation to camp shifter. Pole ghosted her and they never spoke again until he shifted into a polar bear on live television and was sent to camp shifter.

I usually am not too fond of second chance romance, but the story was a good in this one. Risa’s father is a senator and has interfered in her life more than once. He is also a shifter, but hates shifters so he has some control over the camp as well and threatens things with both the camp and with Pole.

Like the first book, this was told in both characters points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and Heather Costa. Both of them did a terrific job and I like their voices, so it was a good book all around.

The heroine: Andie - she was a ballerina and is a bear shifter who shifted for the first time on stage at the ballet. She also broke her ankle when it happened and was sent off to camp shifter with a cane to help her walk. Her dad is a shifter, and her mom isn’t, so she wasn’t sure if she would be one or not. She had heard about Dark Lover who is a bit of a tall tale around the camp, and she was secretly obsessed with him and wanted nothing more than to meet him.

The Hero: David (a.k.a. Dark Lover) - He was a doctor who came up with the vaccine used on shifters which helps them control their power. At one time he had a wife and sons and when they died, he blamed himself. He now lives in the woods near camp shifter and spends most of his time as a grizzly bear. Though he comes to the camp for Dark Night, when the shifters all go out to play in their animal forms and then turn into humans to satisfy their desires. He is a great lover who practices one and done.

The Story: Andie’s parents own an auto shop, so she is a mechanic as well as a ballerina. She knew all about Dark Night and was excited to start a new phase of her life and explore her sexuality on Dark Night. This story was super steamy and there was a pretty good backstory as well. I am really liking this camp shifter world.

Like the first book, this was told in both characters points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Jeffrey Kafer and Heather Costa. Jeffrey has a deep voice and is a good narrator. Heather Costa has a feminine voice which sounds a bit scratchy but is a good voice which I enjoy, and she is good at showing emotion through her voice.

I had previously read the first book when Julia Kent announced Darla had a book out. It was great to read 3, one after the other in a box set. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

Part of the enjoyment came from little reminders that Darla, or DJ Jennings, is actually a book character herself with little name drops from those books. I just love those little nods to the Random series. Oh, Mavis 😂

Don't worry if you haven't read those books, you'll be none the wiser. Just enjoy!

Authors Writing Authors - Paranormal Delight!!

This is just the best….Author Julia Kent has her “Random” series, where one of her characters writes shifter romance. These stories actually came to life and now you get them all in one place!
I love when authors have authors in their books, because I figure they are somewhat autobiographical. I’ve never actually seen where the “fictional” author stories became reality, before now.
I love the premise in this shifter world. Shifters are revealed between the ages of 18 and 25, usually in the months of July and August. Males usually have to be tranq’d and taken to “Camp” where you learn to handle your new reality. Some receive letters and are requested to come to camp, but all shifters must spend a month at camp getting the basics down.

***** Owl be Bear for You *****
Librarian Mara Scioto was brought up with a distrust of shifters. Having been the victim of an Untrained Shifter Attack (USA) two years ago still gives her nightmares. A near miss at the library results in her fainting and in the ER. Jack Karsten is a member of the hospital’s Treat and Restrain Untrained Shifters Team, and sees to Mara. Though Mara has eschewed romance since her attack, she accepts Jack’s offer of a date. When he disappears, she thinks the date didn’t go well. But Jack was shifting, and did an amazing job not losing control. When Mara ultimately receives a letter to go to camp, she discovers Jack there, and they work through this new reality together. A terrific introduction to this shifter world.

***** You Shook Me Howl Night Long *****
Lot’s of intrigue in this one. Eliot “Pole” Elianzo is first draft pick, but shifts on camera during Draft Day. He is sent to camp where he runs into Risa who is a teacher at the camp. Pole and Risa were close until he unexpectedly ghosted her. Broken-hearted Risa hides away at the camp. Faced with her ex-lover fur flies. The truth of why is almost more devastating, and many must come together to remedy the situation. Excellent second chance romance, with delicious intrigue.

***** Dark Night of the Moon *****
A mysterious figure is mostly unseen, except at DarkNight, when all let their animal out to play. DarkLover or DarkDude has quite the reputation with the ladies. Andie is a mechanic by trade and ballerina by heart. Her shift leaves her sidelined from dancing for two months and at Camp Shifter on crutches. She creates a special bond with DarkLover who normally is only ever with a woman once. He is the man who created the vaccine that allows shifters to maintain their control. But he faced tragedy, and lives mostly as his animal. Can this connection with Andie bring him back into the world? Romantic story of healing.

***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****

Owl Be Bear For You
I don't quite know what to say. It was fantastic, don't get the wrong idea. It just touched on so many different things, I'm having a little bit of a problem getting it all straight in my head. Let me talk shifters first: I have never experienced such a unique perspective on shifter society ever in my life. In a world where it feels like all of the great ideas have already been done to death, it's refreshing to find something so very different. And to see it done with such wit and flair is a pure pleasure. The romantic angle is a nice twist on fated mates. The universe is working hard to bring Jake and Mara together but there's a lot they have to deal with before they can get to that point. There's a little bit of intrigue and lots of action - in and out of the bedroom. Of course, any work that Julia Kent is a part of will have her trademark laugh-your-butt-off humor that will leave you gasping for breath while you ask yourself "did the book really just go there?" There's also a bunch of Easter eggs for the eagle-eyed to spot. Devoted fans of her other series' will have fun picking them out. How many can you find?
You Shook Me Howl Night Long
I’m a sucker for a second chance. Make me laugh and throw in a lovely twist of political intrigue and I’ll be putty in your hands. Which is exactly where Risa and Pole held me for the length of their book. There’s a lot of pain and unsaid things between them, but there are bigger things afoot than just their broken hearts. The chemistry between them is an unstoppable force, even though they both try to fight it. I loved seeing them overcome their previous hurts to find their way back together, and the ending they were able to achieve left me with the biggest, goofiest grin on my face.
DarkNight of the Moon
Andie may be new to being a shifter, but she’s got a surprisingly good grasp on life, especially for someone so young. Her mysterious DarkLover, on the other hand, is still dealing with the hard blows life has dealt him. Will Fate allow them to overcome the obstacles in their path or are they destined to be only ships passing in the night? This book didn’t push me all the way to a full-on ugly-cry, but it was a pretty close thing. So, take this as my warning that you may want to keep the tissues handy, just in case. I loved these two together, even if they did nearly turn me into a sodden, weepy mess. I can’t wait until we get the chance to come back to Camp Shifter and learn more about everything that goes on there.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.

I loved these books.
Owl be Bear for you: Great characters lovingly written with humour and passion.
Mara is a librarian and is everything you would expect her to be. One night she is attacked and winds up in hospital, where Jack looks after her.
The attraction between them is of the charts. Neither can explain and both can't resist, even though they try.
Jack's attraction to Mara throws him, the connection is so intense but he has to resist. Thankfully he does know restraint.
I loved this book and these characters. The premise is heart warming and the worst amazing.
I love Darla and I love Julia even more for creating her and this book.
I cannot recommend it enough 🥰
You Shook me Howl Night Long: 🥰🥰🥰
A brilliant second book in the Camp Shifter series.
Risa and Pole are great characters. Full of history and pain the tension between them is palpable.
Add to the mix Risas father, Poles family and a myriad of secrets in both sides tensions are sure to rise and overflow.
I loved this book, the character interactions and story detail.
DarkNight of the Moon: I love this third book in the Camp Shifter series.
I really feel like I know the Camp now and this book added so many layers of detail to the characters.
Andie had been desperate to get to Camp Shifter, she had a longing to meet the mysterious Dark Lover. Her pull to him is an obsession.
The Dark Lover sees her as she arrives and that sets him on a course for obsession too. He has only ever spent one night with someone, but his attraction to Andie soon breaks that rule.
The Dark Lover has suffered great loss, can Andie be the one to break the chuckle of sorrow and despair.
I loved these characters, the depth of feeling that flows from the page had me captivated.
I loved the in-house nod to The Random Acts of Fantasy book. A great line that made me snigger.
I highly recommend this Box set and author.

DJ Jennings comes from a character in the Random series, & I had already read the first book because I just love this author.

These books are very interesting to read… They have a bit of everything, including romance, drama, mystery, tragedy…

In book 1, Mara is working in the library when she is attacked by a shape shifter. She ends up in the ER, where she meets Jack, who is just days from his 25th birthday (where he could end up shifting for the first time). Then Mara gets the letter from Camp Shifter with her name on it...

In book 2, Risa and Eliot meet, and there is an instant attraction until Eliot breaks up with her. She has no idea why they broke up, but it could be because of her letter to attend Camp Shifter. Eventually they end up meeting again…

In book 3, David has had a terrible tragedy, & Andie is a freshly turned shifter, and has arrived at the camp for the training. She doesn’t know that David has spotted her when she arrived to the camp & that he plans to spend the night with her…

If you like shifter books, you’ll love this boxset.

I received this bookset as a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I picked this up on offer through Bookbub, just because the titles made me chuckle. However, my subconscious has a better memory that I do, because DJ Jennings in the fictional author in Julia Kent's Random series. I love layers of meta-madness. These are fun, quick little reads. The sex scenes are a touch florid to be my absolute favourite, but that's personal preference more than a knock against the writing. If you like shifter romances, I'd say these are worth trying.
