Titan called her. The Temple forged her. Gods will fear her.
Growing up in a village of shapeshifters, Kit is despised just for being human. More than anything, she yearns for acceptance and a place to belong. In her darkest moment, a fateful encounter offers her a solution to her problems - free the god Titan from his icy prison and in return, he will grant her heart's desire.
Undeterred by the daunting task, Kit embarks on a treacherous journey to a distant land, where she joins a sacred order of warrior priests devoted to the deity's liberation. Amidst their rigorous tutelage in the arts of magic and combat, Kit inadvertently taps into an unforeseen potential within herself. As she unlocks these powers, she raises the ire of gods who become desperate to thwart her at all costs.
In order to succeed, Kit may need to give up her humanity and turn her back on that which she covets most.

This was a really good book. Great characters, magic, dogs and wolves, lots of action and adventure, everything that makes a book fun to read was in this book. I enjoyed the main characters journey so far and am glad this will be a series. I recommend this book.

Audible listen. Narrator did a good job! Enjoyed the listen. Quality performance!

This isn’t typically what I like to read; no romance and the story build up is slow going, but I still enjoyed the story. The story starts with young Kit facing adversity from close-minded people. She ends up training in magic and combat because she is supposed to help free one of the gods. In this book, Kit mainly trains and then solves some dilemmas for some town people; missing cheese, poachers, etc. Along the way, she faces more close-mindedness because she is young, female, and different. She does find some allies along the way too. I like that she stands up for herself and those that need some help. She is a bit rude and too rash, but she kicks booty! Enjoy the magical aspects as well, and the wolves! There is violence in this story, but so far, I’d say this is mostly a YA type of story. I was hoping for a bit more of an epic journey with this read, but there is a possibility for that in future books. This one felt more like a setup story. I’d say this is a 3.5 for me, but I rounded up to a 4 since this just isn’t my usual type of read. I got a good deal on the full series, so I will continue with the story. Hoping for more epicness, more growth from the heroine and hopefully some romance!

This is a wonderful story about a young girl that is put through so much crap yet remains steadfast and wholly good to the core. Kit is a small girl with a big destiny, just my kind of heroine.  Kit seems so young in the beginning, naïve, innocent but brave and thirsting for knowledge. I appreciate Paul let her grow as the book progressed. She seems to grow older with some things while retaining innocence with others. Kit seems to have to prove herself a lot which I know is the time and culture Mouchet is writing through so I can appreciate it, but dang. Poor girl. Although with a destiny like hers its good she's prepared. And wolves! I love the wolves. I cannot wait to see where Kit and Runt end up next!

As I hold anyone that can put words on paper and have a novel come out in high regard. People, me, should not critize but if one were to critique a novel. Well here goes, I enjoyed the characters and story line, but I'm lost with all the individuals that developed magical prowess. Seems like everyone one has some ability or magic in a bottle..... Either the author went on a different tangent, the editor did not care or, I'm reading book two. I'm a sucker for animal heroes

There were a lot of elements I liked and the writing is nice and easy to read. It was a little hard to keep track of what the main objective for the MC was, but she definitely goes through multiple adventures so there’s lots of action!

Kit is an interesting character. She’s brash and impulsive, and seems good at getting under people’s skin. It makes it a little difficult to relate to her, because there are equal moments of rooting for her and then shaking your head at her.

She goes through a lot, gains a lot of training and experience, and even finds some allies eventually (including a super amazing Dire Wolf puppy who I can’t wait to see more of!) but she doesn’t really seem to change, and I would have liked a bit more character growth.

Now that she’s not alone, I expect she’ll have a lot more opportunity to really show the ways she’s learning and maturing as the series goes on. Great start!

Whilst Call of Titan is primarily a coming-of-age epic tale with much of the story based around an ‘academy’ style setting, I began to get the feeling more was happening below the surface. In fact, by the end I almost felt like I was playing a video game. There were many elements that reminded of my fondness for open world RPGs. Especially the myriad quests (main and side) the character picks up from characters (dare I say NPCs?). It felt like the author was poking fun at typical gaming tropes such as the list of tasks on Captain Harding’s notice board, or a standard fetch/shopping-quest for ingredients as part of Kit’s ‘blooding’ trials. Not to mention other elements such as stamina potions and creatures called dock spiders and dire rats, which make me just want to hack and slash then loot their shrivelling corpses! Anyway, I found all of this rather enjoyable, but I suppose I should mention the story, too.
The world building is done well and hints at a larger well thought out world, with darker histories of slavery and oppression lurking in the background. There is plenty of action, but I particularly enjoyed the elements of mystery and intrigue concerning the wolves and other strange happenings. Kit, the main character starts off quite naive, but gradually builds up a cocky and confident attitude. Sometimes she can seem very innocent, but is not afraid to get her hands bloody (aka go on a killing spree). The book was written in clean prose and was well edited. I think the series is already complete, and I certainly look forward to more from this author!

After recently reading the first books in several series, this is the one I'd like to continue reading. A little overly discriptive at times, but moves at a fast pace.

4.0 out of 5 stars An rpg feeling adventure

Call of Titan gave me the impression that it was written with an MMO or D&D style of quest system built around it. As a fan of both of those things I quite enjoyed the nod to how these systems always throw random items at a character after they do something 'heroic' and how a random pair of boots just happens to be the right size for a character, or the weapon is the type they always use.

The world itself is interesting and while includes some classic fantasy monsters (yay, dire rats are back!) The main races are a far step away from that and I enjoyed the fresh feel of the fantasy setting, it's gods and people. While there are still many familiar names, and obvious borrowings from Native American cultures, it was done well and without being too on the nose.

I did feel the story jumped around a bit too quickly, and that this would have benifited from being a much longer book, especially when it came to Kit's training at the temple.

A quick paced read, but keeps you booked on the main character, and her adventure. Let's see if further books do the same?
