Catalyst: (MMMM Romance) (Chain Reaction Book 1) Kindle Edition
Best friends Will McMahon and Peyton Sinclair have been hooking up for years, content with their arrangement and the comfort they get from it. When Sebastian—the hot lawyer they picked up at the club the night before—stumbles over a dead body in their kitchen on his way out, calling Quinn is instinctive for them. Years of unacknowledged tension between Peyton and Quinn is a sore point, but Peyton trusts that Quinn will figure out the mess they’ve landed in.
While Quinn tries to find answers, Peyton and Will quickly find themselves tangled in the tension between Quinn and Sebastian. They’re hoping Quinn can move fast—before one of them becomes the next dead body—but the situation becomes even more complicated when another explosive night proves that Peyton and Will aren’t done with either Quinn or Sebastian, just as much as the two aren’t done with each other.
Between the mind-blowing night Sebastian spent with Peyton and Will, and the fact that every time he turns around it’s either Quinn or the barrel of a gun waiting for him, Sebastian has never had more regrets. If he can survive long enough to get some answers, maybe the four of them together are going to be the catalyst for a future that’s more wildly different than anything they’d ever imagined.
Chain Reaction is an MMMMM steamy suspense series following the same five men. Catalyst begins with four men in a tangled web of friends to lovers and second chances. Reactant (book 2) adds a fifth man to their already complicated lives in a blast of sizzling attraction and heat. It contains adult situations, gun use, references to murder and drug usage, suspense themes and a character with PTSD.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved this book so much! There's so much packed into it.
Will and Peyton are best friends who have been sleeping together for years. They also live together, making it seem to everyone around them that they're a couple. They're not, at least not in their minds. They are the definition of idiots in love. Cue Sebastian.
Seb is a defense lawyer whom Will and Peyton pick up in a club one night. What happens next is a night of hot passion and the kick-off to the main plot when a dead body turns up in the kitchen.
Quinn is called in to discover what happened and to the surprise of Will and Peyton, he and Seb have a past. Not only that, but the UNST between Quinn and Peyton is real as well.
With the four of them on page together things are combustible. All four men are very different from one another and shouldn't work, but they do. There's a balance to these four men. They all bring something different out of each other. Which is what you want, especially when you're writing polyamory. Each relationship gives and takes something different and you see that on page. It's not an easy thing to do, especially in one book, but this author managed it and I cannot wait to see where they go from here because it promises to be fun. Are things perfect? No, but they don't need to be. They're just figuring things out and there's a lot they have to work through, especially Quinn and Seb who have a history neither is ready to divulge yet, but they're building something together, all of them, that promises to be amazing.
The suspense elements of this book was a nice backdrop to the new relationship. Trying to build something with danger around every corner makes things stressful and it was handled wonderfully as they tried to figure out where they stood while trying not to get unalived.
This author is extremely talented and I am loving what she's started with the four of these characters. She's showing she just *gets* polyamory and I cannot wait to see how they evolve when they have more time together in the next books.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2024Format: KindleVerified Purchase3.75 stars. This book felt refreshing to me, not only in regards to the polyamory, but also the roles each of the main characters has. If anything, I'd wished I had more descriptions of each of them sooner in the book. Overall, I actually think that this book could have benefited from more writing. It felt that so much got condensed but the characters are all fascinating enough and the plot interesting that I wanted to be able to spend more time with each of them and really dig down deep. Especially when it came to each of the characters families, I really appreciated that we got a chance to see them with their extended circle of friends and family. I really didn't feel like this was a story of only four people, but that they were part of a larger world, which makes them all incredibly important. It's found family romance at it's finest! Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I'll likely read the next book at some point too.
Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time?
Sure!
See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book
CHARACTERS: Each of the MMCs is distinct, which I do absolutely love. The fact that all of them have hyper-protective jobs: cop, ex spec-ops, defense lawyer, and tactical operations unit, was really fun! They all have a range of ages as well, and I truly enjoyed that you definitely got a sense about what made each of them tick. It's not hard to have a favorite, but impossible for that favorite to not constantly be changing. I instantly enjoyed all of them and honestly, I loved how the first trio met up. The idea of things happening because they were all thinking with their tiny heads is so classic.
PLOT: A murder mystery at it's finest. Why are dead bodies appearing where they are? Who is the target? Why? What exactly is going on? The irony as well that all of them somehow seem to have less than six degrees of separation so that even though they're in Sydney, everyone knows everyone else in their line of work makes for some almost slapstick comedy that I thoroughly enjoyed. The only thing I do wish is that they were all given a little more vulnerability, especially at the very end. Sure, they have a lot of protective talents, but the stakes won't seem as high if everyone is easily able to escape basically unscathed.
EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.
2/5: low-medium. I think it could go either way. I was emotionally invested in the characters, but again, I felt so much was being packed into so little time that I wasn't given the chance to dive as deeply into the world as I wanted to. But it is still an enjoyable, sexy read.
CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?
75%. My usual main qualm. I wish the climactic event had had a more... lasting impact. And that we got a chance to really sit in that moment. The characters weren't given a chance to truly grow because the finale seemed too easy in light of the build up. But everything was wrapped up well enough for the next book and I wasn't left frustrated. So that's good.

This was my very first MMMM book. I went into it a bit nervous because when I read MM, I don’t even like thinking of the possibility of another person coming in. It always felt like cheating to me.
I. Was. Wrong. At first, yes, I was a little confused with all the names lol, but I quickly caught up. Wowza. The way these men came together and made something work? Nothing short of amazing.
The plot, outside of the romance, was very interesting. It kept me invested in the story as a whole. I’m nervous about how it’s going to progress in the next book, but I don’t think the author would do me dirty.
My favorite of the guys is definitely Will. That man. He is the definition of cinnamon roll and I’m here for it. His feelings towards Peyton are just pure love. I’m so glad they have each other. I felt so bad for him when he realized the other 3, in one way or another, all his history and feelings. Ugh he needed a hug.
I love all the other guys, which I was NOT expecting. This book really opened my eyes to the possibilities of making it work. I’m so happy I finally have this a chance and I can’t wait to see what happens with these four.
I’m running to the next right now!

5.0 out of 5 stars When the past and the present collide in really spectacular way
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is what I was looking for, for a long time and it really delivers a high octane cocktail of wholesome characters with interesting backgrounds, plot twists and well thought world building.
It opens yawning abyss of regrets, misunderstandings and wrong decisions, skillfully woven in the plot like colorful pieces of a quilt - so different but inexplicably seamlessly fitting together. So much pain, hurt and suppressed desire are dripping from the severed connections between Quinn, Sebastian and Payton. The calm in this turbulent storm, the safe harbour for all of them is Will. Different threads - different reasons- different events lead to an unexpected result - 4 men tangled together in a web of so many complicated feelings that have to be sorted out before a polycule could be build up on a healthy foundation. And all of this wrapped around additional plot - a dead body dropped in the middle of the night starts a chain reaction of intertwined events. The most important question when threats, unanswered questions and bullets start flying is will the past repeat itself or not? Will the trust be enough now to save the new fragile bonds Payton, Will, Quinn and Sebastian are still testing and figuring out?
Gripping, emotional, heartfelt - a lot of things could be said about this story but I know that polyamory isn't everyone's cup of tea. I love it when there is a web of relationships, all interconnected, so I really, really enjoyed every minute of reading it.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved these four guys. The chemistry between them was off the charts. I can't wait to see how their relationship progresses.
I enjoyed the crime aspect and I'm hoping we find out more about Hunter and whether he can be trusted in the next book.
A really great MMMM read.

4.0 out of 5 stars and suddenly there were four!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was so different from anything I’ve read before so I’m still digesting it. These four men and connected through ways they never realised before they get together. There’s a lot happening and it kinda ends on a cliff hanger.
Sebastian is a criminal lawyer who previously dated Quinn 8 years earlier but they had a nasty breakup and never got over each other. Quinn is in law enforcement and works with Riley who is Peyton’s older brother. Peyton is ex military and works for the time being in a bar as he suffers from ptsd. Peyton and Will are roommates and best friends with benefits. Will is also in law enforcement, in tactical operations.
Will and Peyton pick up Sebastian one night and awaken to find a dead body in their apartment. The rest of the book is about finding out who he is, why he was there and who’s targeting Sebastian. In between all of this murder mystery, these 4 men come together feeling an intense mutual attraction where they can’t keep their hands off each other.
The book ends with the case semi resolved but we are left wondering what will become of the foursome.
It kept me intrigued to see where it was going and how these men were going to settle into their new relationship with their different jobs and being so connected. I now want to get the next in the series to see what happens next.

3.0 out of 5 stars MMMM with some confusion
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love poly romance and was looking forward to this but im a bit confused as there was a lot of info in the book.
The 4 MC's i get but there seemed to be 2 ? Characters with same name or am assuming maybe they are same person and book 2 might have those answers?
Its just a very hmm hectic read with a lot going on all at once
And after 8 years of freezing each other out..2 of the MCs just get back together with not a lot of explanation as to what happened originally..almost like we are supposed to know already
And well Will and Peyton...clueless..of course they were dating..OMG cheesy
Honestly I didnt even realise was set in Sydney til like 3 or 4 chapters in ...
Will read book 2 just cos I dislike unfinished business as such ....
