Centurion: A Scifi Alien Romance (Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 2,199 ratings

Rescued from her alien captors, the only person who makes her feel safe is a cold, emotionless cyborg.

Abducted from her exploration ship, paramedic Sage McAlister has spent months locked in cells and labs belonging to the Edull. Rescued by the cool, powerful cyborgs of the House of Rone, she finds herself among fellow human survivors on the desert world of Carthago. But despite being free, Sage feels cold inside and is struggling to cope. The only person she feels safe with—who she doesn’t feel the need to pretend with—is a deadly cyborg who feels nothing.

Forced into a military cyborg program as a teen, all Acton Vonn remembers of his past are violent missions and the cybernetic enhancements forced on him before he broke free. His emotions have been dampened to nothing for decades and he’s fine with that. It makes him an efficient member of the House of Rone. Yet the more time he spends with the copper-haired woman he helped rescue from the Edull, the more unfamiliar, strange, and perplexing things he starts to feel.

When a tip reveals that more humans are being held captive at a mysterious desert lake, Sage will stop at nothing to help rescue her crewmates. As she is drawn closer to Acton, she worries about risking her heart. Being with Sage breaks down barriers inside Acton and he struggles with the emotions he doesn’t want to feel. But deep in Carthago’s dangerous deserts, with the Edull hunting them, Sage and Acton will have to risk it all: their lives, their hearts, their souls.

I loved this Action-packed Space Opera Romance with a 2nd Chances theme. The 2 main characters are entirely different individual types, both with tragic pasts, coming together and finding healing and love together - Somewhat like Beauty and the Beast.

For years an alien race, the Thraxians, have been capturing humans in space and selling them as slaves for profit. Prior to the beginning of Sentinel, book #1 in House of Rone, Helios an earth exploration ship was attacked by the Thraxians and the survivors were taken and sold individually to slavers on the desolate planet of Carthago (very far from earth). These human survivors became scattered among the population and have been suffering as either abused slaves or as actual “lab rats” to their owners. But a group of assembled powerful and wealthy cyborg residents, known as the House of Rone, hate slavers (once being slaves themselves). Since discovering the predicament of the Helios survivors (in Sentinel, #1), the House of Rone cyborg warriors have made a concentrated effort to rescue the last of the surviving humans, once from the Helios.

Acton/MMC is a cyborg humanoid originally a cyborg soldier and slave from another planet. He is now one of the warriors serving the House of Rone. Sage/FMC was a paramedic serving on the earth ship, the Helios, before its attack and capture. She is one of the recent survivors rescued by the House of Rone (the end of Sentinel, #2). Centurion, #3 is Acton and Sage’s story.

Centurion, #3 read quickly, burst with action and adventure; the romance stewed and sizzled, ending with a much deserved HEA. Centurion contained an almost endless assortment of evil and malicious robots created by the sadistic Edull slavers. At this time, the House of Rone series contains 5 books. The author recommends reading the books in order. For complete understanding of Sage’s recent ordeal prior to her rescue, I recommend first reading at least Sentinel, #2 in the House of Rone. Centurion, #3 could possibly be read as a standalone novel but the overall story arc and interweaving character interactions would be missed - thus less enjoyment.

I recommend the House of Rone novels to readers who enjoy fast moving Space Operas, action/adventure or romance suspense novels, HEAs, and are okay with a good does of sexy-steam (as Centurion has a fair amount after the mid-point). I truly enjoyed this Space Opera novel but readers who prefer Clean material should probably skip this series, or be prepared to skip several paragraphs in the latter 1/2 of the book.

    Reader Cautions -
Violence - Abductions and hand-to-hand battles. PG-13 level similar to
    Sci-fi movies. Not truly graphic.
Profanity - Yes. Strong language perhaps 20 times or so.
Sexual situations - Yes. Repeated, brief, on-scene intimacy between the 2 main characters.

Galactic Gladiators: House of Rone book 3. A fabulous read. Acton is more cyborg than anybody else. His fee!ings are on severe lock down. He helps to rescue Sage and his censors to off kilter. Save is trying to adjust to her new life but everything isn't ok with her. They each have what the other needs. As they fall for each other, they also must battle a new enemy and help find other humans. This book is gritty, dramatic, hella angsty and sexy.

Action and Sage have become friends since her rescue from the Edull and he is not understanding why some of the House Of Rone Gladiators are so happy with their human mates. Sage is having a hard time adjusting to life after her enslavement to the Edull and never being able to return home to Earth. She is till having nightmarish thoughts of her captivity. She is trying to teach Acton how to note the various ways people can show their emotions through body language. The House Of Rhone is working with the House Of Galen and others to try and find more survivors from the Helios and they have decided to do another desert mission. They have just found out from the child Nemma who was also rescued from the Edull that they had another child Grace a human who mother was aboard the Helios and is also missing. The Edull has stepped up attacks on the House Of Rone and Sage had been injured in a fight with spider bots at a restaurant with Acton. Acton and Sage will both have to overcome their past traumas and find the happiness they deserve with each other but first they are going to rescue the child. A big thank you to Anna Hackett for the wonderful review copy. I am also a verified purchase. Totally enjoyable series.

Acton, a very unemotional cyborg finds himself dealing with one of the kidnapped human women earth but is adamant that he will not allow his emotional dampners to be affected. Snort! Big, powerful and going down! Sage was taken off the Helios and enslaved by the Edull, a very nasty alien race who deal in scrap metal and build truly horrendous robots, until she was rescued by the Gladiators, specifically Acton. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the two of them as she taught him that it was worth the pain of feeling emotions and healed both of their scars along the way. And wow, he was a real quick study in the sex department. Real hot stuff! There is a lot of action and adventure along with the romance. As usual I was gifted with an ARC but I also purchased this book today when it was released cuz I love this series. Enjoy! 💚💜💛💙👍

Is a man really exempt from feelings when a woman arrives to stir unknown sensations from him ...

I am a total sucker for these damaged heroes, strong women awaken to life.
Mrs Anna Hackett did it again, with Acton’s story, she adds an other hit to her long list.
Acton reminds me a little of Kace, the military man from Hero. Since he was forcibly recruited as a soldier, he never allowed himself to feel.
Yet he is willing to help Sage to heal and to get back on her feet.
And the more he is in close contact with her, the more it stirs strange sensation from him.
Sage is a survivor, but it did not come without a cost. She feels numb in the inside, an obvious reaction to her months of emprisonnement and abuse.
Why she feels safe around Acton as he is the only one not expecting her to be all smile and cheer when she is not in the mood.
And maybe because he is able to see past the mask she plasters on her face, he makes her believe in more again if she can go beyond his cold appearance.
Their duet is such a sweet, when Sage educates him to sensation, he help her heal from past wounds.
I loved to see Acton accept his new self, at time it was quite funny as he has no filter like a child, he expresses his new experienced senses, he learns.
One more great addition to this series.

    Tja, was soll ich sagen?

I love the Carthago stories! Both series feature earth women who were captured from our solar system by the Thraxians. Those evil aliens were dealt with by the House of Galen but they missed the captives that were taken from the exploration ship Helios. They had been sold to the Edull and it has fallen to the House of Rone to save these people. In this book Sage, who was rescued in Defender, has formed a friendship with the coldest of the cyborgs, Acton! But when Acton’s emotion dampers start to fail friendship is no longer enough. Of course there’s plenty of action both romantically and physically when the Edull decide to take the fight to Kor Magna. The arena battles are so well written that you only have to have seen the film Gladiator and you will be right there. Then there is the hunt for the Edull base in the desert to save another two victims from the Helios. This time it is a mother and daughter, Simone and Grace. Can’t wait for the next book!
