Century Portal: A YA Historical Urban Fantasy Academy Book (Sacred Stones Portal Series 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

I thought my days of magical battles were behind me—until a portal opened in my dorm room.

I’m Bella, and I’ve done my fair share of saving the world. But when two strangers from 1924 show up begging for my help, it’s clear that my quiet college life is about to be anything but ordinary. Their mission? To stop a dangerous villain from unraveling the future by tampering with the Seer’s family line.

Suddenly, I’m thrust into the magical world of time portals, glitzy debutante balls, and the underground speakeasies of the Roaring Twenties. And that’s not even the worst of it. There’s a new enemy in play—one who can manipulate time itself and has their sights set on Lucinda, the future Seer.

In 1924, Lucinda thought her biggest problem was planning her future. She couldn’t be more wrong.

Eighteen is supposed to be an exciting time for Lucinda—freedom, ambition, maybe even a little romance. But as strange powers start manifesting and a mysterious suitor takes an interest in her, life gets complicated. Add to that a time-traveling villain who’s decided she’s the key to his plans, and her once-bright future starts to look pretty dangerous.

Now, Lucinda and I are fighting across centuries to stop history from being rewritten. But with enemies closing in from every side, the battle for the Seer has only just begun...

Century Portal is the spellbinding first book in a new YA historical time-travel fantasy by bestselling author Barbara Hartzler. Downton Abbey meets Back to the Future with a good dose Shadowhunters-like magic in this thrilling blend of coming of age romance, mystery, and urban fantasy adventure.

***AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a spin-off series in the Sacred Stones Academy Universe, part prequel and part grand finale. You don't have to read the
Montrose Paranormal Academy, Shadowstone Academy, or Genesis Academy series to understand this book, but you might want to check them out for extra context.***

It's a great story-line, I like 1920s time travel with consequences changing the plot. Made you say what if!

In Century Portal, you see a dramatic change in the storyline that has taken us across three series’ and over a dozen books. Talk about plot shift, going through time! I will be honest; Bella and Patrick are not my favorite characters. But as the book progresses I find that they were the perfect and only ones to travel through time to the ”Roaring Twenties” and change/change back the course of history. I am sure we will see more of this time period and perhaps maybe having to go into Bella and Patrick’s future?
As always, Barbara develops the characters incredible well and supplies us with very nice twists and turns. I can not wait for the next book. Well done Ms. Hartzler!

This was a bit out in left field for me and the flow of the story seemed stilted in several places. Perhaps it's just me, though. The characters are interesting, the plot was crazy different, and the premise was getting the time line back to normal. After several tries this was established. I do recommend this book.

Patrick and Bella travel back in time to save the seer's line from being taken over by the evil Montrose's! This clever time traveling fantasy cleverly mixes 2024 with Speakeasys and the roaring 20's, debutante balls with crystal wars. This is a clever addition to the sacred stone series. Loved it!

Book one in this new series and it is off to a flying start. Patrick and Bella find themselves travelling back to the rip roaring 20’s to save the seer's line from being taken over by the evil Montrose's. Told with a blend of the here and now and back in time, the author does a fantastic job shifting us through space and time including the consequences. Incredible world building that will draw you in and make you feel as though you are actually there along for the ride, fantastic and likeable characters and a storyline that’s intriguing, exciting and full of surprises and twists and turns. This looks to be a captivating series and I look forward to reading more!

I adored Bella and Patrick from the previous series. They have that together since childhood and will be together forever relationship and are so comfortable and cute together. I was so excited that they got their own book! This one is really good. I love it! I received an advance review copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
