Changing the Script Kindle Edition
LA-based English indie filmmaker Alex Levitin reluctantly takes a job in New Zealand to save the “worst movie ever”, Shezan: Mistress of the Forest. Things might go easier for her if she didn’t almost run over the standoffish, beautiful local cop on her first day in town. And it’d really help if her film set wasn’t being mysteriously sabotaged.
When Ika Whenu’s Senior Constable Sam Keegan isn’t trying to stamp out a motorcycle gang drug problem afflicting her town, she’s publicly slamming everything about the exploitative film, Shezan, and the Hollywood blow-ins making it. That includes its nerdy, cute director, Alex, who has woeful driving skills to go with her smart mouth.
Against the stunning scenery and chaotic film-set backdrop, attraction flares between the two warring women as they’re forced to work together to find the set saboteur.
This is a Breaking Character spin-off novel that can easily be read as a standalone story.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2025I want to visit New Zealand! The description of the scenery is enticing. I love how Alex goes ahead not knowing if she can make "the worst movie ever" salvageable. When her first encounter with the local constable, Sam, is to almost run her over things don't look good.
This is a gorgeous slow burn, enemies to lovers love story! The secondary characters are all well rounded and fit in perfectly. I give it resounadly 5 stars!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2021Alex is one of the best creative Indie film directors in Hollywood. The genius who are corporate executives in that world have green lighted the worst project movie, Shezan. It is set in Ike Whenu New Zealand where Sam is the town Constable.
Alex should pass on this disaster but her ex created a financial crisis this film will fix.
Sam literal avoids an accident with Alex who is lost trying to find the movie set.
Their meeting begins a such great story filled with characters you will love from the moment you meet them. A few twists and complete surprises give such depth to the story. Alex & Sam both want to be loved enough to be chosen as most important. We know a little about Alex from Lee Winters book Breaking Character but to watch this strong woman navigate and direct this movie she rewrites was breathtaking. Sam is such a lone wolf not because she isn't loved but more because she can't see it. The path to any kind of love is a journey we all want to take but fear is often laid at the heart of the most loving people. This is a dynamic story I found hard to put down. It was one of those magnificent books setting in my TBR pile. So blessed to have pulled it out and loved the story that unfolds. Brilliant, funny, witty and full of such love on so many levels.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2023I have loved every Lee Winter book that I've read and this one is now added to that list! Sam isn't Lee's typical ice queen but she still has some of that closed off, needs to learn to open up quality all the same. This slow burn love story was so sweet and I didn't see the twist coming either which is always a fun surprise. Its not as much fun when the twists are predictable. I loved both main characters and it was great to see a little of Bess and Summer as well. Plus a whole cast of great side characters. Highly recommend picking this one up. Books like this actually make my little cynical heart start to believe happy ever after could actually happen. I also think it might have secured New Zealand as a place I really want to visit some day.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2021I have read every book by Lee Winter known to me. And I enjoyed them thoroughly. However, this one did not do it for me. The characters were lacking chemistry, and it was tough to care.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2024Lee Winter is a master story teller. The characters are complex and well developed, the saga of the relationship between Alex and Sam is fun to witness, and the setting is wonderful. There is a bit of action, a bit of mystery, some danger, all blended with the idea of trying to breathe life into “The Worst movie ever”. All in all a great read I didn’t want to put down. And as much as I wanted to get to Alex and Sam’s happy ending, I also didn’t want the story to end!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2023Indie filmmaker Alex Levitin is forced to take a job in New Zealand to fix the worst movie ever, Shezan. Before arriving at the film site she almost kills Senior Constable Sam Keegan who dislikes everything about the film project. The multitude of characters are a real challenge for a narrator but Claire Alain is masterful with different voices and accents. Great listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great blend of action, romance and comedy.
Packed with thrills, spills, and laughs, ‘Changing the Script’ is an entertaining easy-read – 5 Stars
When Alex Levitin takes over as director of what is widely predicted to be the worst film in the world, she’s determined that the movie won’t damage her otherwise excellent reputation. However, with its cringe-worthy title of “Shezan: Mistress of the Forest”, rain-sodden location, and several incidences of sabotage, Alex soon finds herself the centre of Senior Constable Sam Keegan’s attention, and that’s a distraction she really doesn’t need…
Although Alex appears in ‘Breaking Character’, there’s no need to of read that in order to enjoy ‘Changing the Script’. I’ve read both, and actually prefer this action-packed spin-off with its mix of sappy romance and sharp humour. Like ‘Breaking Character, it follows a comedy of errors theme, but this, thanks to several absurdly comic scenes, is much funnier. Even the initial meetings between Alex and Sam often provide a source of laughs, but as their relationship develops, the romantic element to the story comes more into focus and the latter part of the story holds several sweetly emotional scenes.
An excellent easy-read that’s a lot of fun – Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Esperava mais.
