Mika

She's the uber-sexy, single mother living next door. Everyone tells me to keep my distance. But there's something about her. Specifically, her eyes. They speak to me. Drawing me in like a siren. I want to know her, but she's more guarded than Buckingham Palace. However, after one afternoon in her presence, I find myself addicted and wanting more. Willing to do whatever I have to just to make it past her defenses.

Shiloh

My next-door neighbor is an insanely hot, single professional hockey player. As if that isn't bad enough, he's a nice guy too. After spending an afternoon where he showed my son how to skate and took us out to ice cream, I want to let him in. My past cautions me to put on the brakes, but I find myself going full steam ahead, ignoring all the red flags waving at me.

Jessica Buss is a must read for me now I'm hooked! JVD GoodReads

After reading this author's debut novel I was quietly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Now after finishing her second book I am in no doubt that she was meant to be an author. I loved all the highs and the lows throughout this book. I know I can't wait to get my hands on book 3. SJ/Read.Review.Repeat Blog

It was a super sweet story that held me on every word. I Don't Get Sundays

Mikah and Shiloh's story I loved it. It's so good I couldn't get enough of these two. A must read. AM GoodReads

I absolutely loved it!!! I can't wait til the next book. Sassy Southern Book Blog

Like with the first book, I had a hard time putting the book down once I started. I look forward to reading more from this author and hoping for more books in this series. DF/GoodReads

Single Mom + He Falls First = Romance Goodness
I was completely invested in this hero getting his happily ever after. Mika has been on a self-imposed hiatus from the dating world because he is searching for something more. Cupid's arrow flings his way and BOOM! Hits directly for his next-door neighbor. Mika has all the qualities of hero I love: protective, caregiving, attentive and all once in awhile his inner caveman comes out. If you love a cinnamon roll hero, he is it. Shiloh really deserves Mika. I mean her previous relationship was - Oof! nothing but trouble. However I love a strong heroine who knows that family comes first. She has her own protective instincts that a single moms can relate to. I will admit for the dark moment of the story I was Team Mika but I could really see her point of view on protecting her heart. Again this was a enjoyable read with that instant attraction goodness I so love that I devoured and ready for book 3 in the series.

Insta love!!! Yes please! Crushing each other! I’m loving this kind of book!!!! I love how they are pinning for each other in secret and taking glance looks. Mika? What can I say? He is so perfect. I love Mika he is such a sweetheart. And totally swoon-worthy. How little by little he fall in love with them, all of them is pretty amazing. I can feel all Shiloh stress of being a single mom (I was one once), all her frustrations and desperation. She is indeed an amazing mom. I was swooning with her all the time. My heart broke so hard with them…. My stomach was in knots at some point, watery eyes, tears and everything. But thankfully everything was fixed and repaired in the best way possible I love that moment so so much, goosebumps and everything. I love Sam and Lian so much, they are the cute boys ever. Their HEA was perfection, *chef kisses*. Can’t wait to read the next book, Christian’s, he is just a mystery.

I think it still needed some work, but this book was better than the first one. I did get bored with chapters repeating the same events from a different point of view. However, some better structured chapters make me think the author is getting there. And she has a way with words, definitely a unique voice that she’ll only keep perfecting.

As for the romance itself, it’s again instalove, so of course it bothered me a little, but it’s a matter of preferences. The “I’ve never been in love, I see this person three seconds and I don’t know what’s happening but I want forever with them” trope is a trope I have a hard time appreciating because it’s too often lust taken for love, and because what I enjoy the most is the learning about each other. But I have to admit the latter is still happening some here, even though it’s after they already decided they had a thing going on. I loved the cute domesticity and Mika taking care of Shiloh’s sons.

The various twists and turns in their relationship didn’t always make sense though. It’s like they react before they think, and often to make poor decisions. I’ve seen this with other fledgling authors: instead of letting the characters tell their story, they know where they want to go and push the characters in that direction even when it doesn’t make much sense, with the usual “I don’t know why I did that”. It happens with more experienced authors too, but when almost all the story is told that way, it makes for poor character development and consistency problems. Here the balance was a bit skewed, but not too much. There were no obvious inconsistencies.

Practice makes perfect, and the author is practicing. Let’s see what the next book brings.

EDIT: as this book was already better than the first one, the new version made it better but it wasn’t as noticeable as with the previous book. Still the structure is way better–I actually liked the big flashback that gives all the information as to why Shiloh’s mistaken when she breaks up with Mika. The author also cut some scenes that weren’t important, hence tightening the plot.

Besides the fact that it’s my least favorite trope, instalove, my main problem was with the timeline. Mika waits for months before he does anything to reconnect with Shiloh, and it seriously bothered me.

Still a pretty cute romance, and the author is definitely working on her craft. Good job.

Second book in the series and my second read of the words of Jessica Buss. She is gaining strength, addicting the reader to her words. I'm already jumping up and down in anticipation of book #3.

Confirmed bachelor and hockey hottie (I have a thing for a defense man), Mika is not looking for marital ties or any type of relationship especially one that would include a "ready made family' but when he lays eyes on Shiloh he knows he's in trouble. He's drawn to her and he even feels that her boys are something special. One huge problem besides his oath to bachelorhood, Shiloh has built some pretty solid walls around her heart and around her boys.
Shiloh doesn't know why a playboy like Mika would want to hang around with her or her sons. She's just a single mom, not a supermodel worthy of the attention of this athletic god. She is falling under his spell but she has to be careful because it's not just her heart that she has to protect. Her boys must come first.
I absolutely loved these characters, especially Sam and Lian. They will steal your heart as well!

Instant love is the greatest! When he saw her, he was literally knocked on his butt! I loved this story; Mika & Shiloh are so great together! They did have a rough way getting there though, something happens at his away game & some pics are taken that look bad, but not what they supposedly show. It did frustrate me that she didn't give him any time to explain anything, & they spent time apart that could have been avoided. But, he's so great with her kids, swoon-worthy! I'm happy they got their HEA, & I loved the whole series that's out so far! Highly recommend!
