    It feels like I've been 'in' this series for years. Maybe I have. This was book 9 of the series, and I haven't been disappointed by any of the books yet. (My only disappointment is they sometimes seem a little short. Still so good, though.)

    This is the story of Luka and Brady, both of whom we meet in book 8, Defend. One of the cool things this author does that's a little unusual is show us a scene in one book and then again from a different point of view in another. For example, in Defend, a hockey player asks Luka to go get his friend who is in the stadium to watch a game and so Luka gets him and brings him to the Club Box. In this book we see the same event happen but it's from Luka's POV. There are a couple of scenes like that and I enjoyed them a lot because I was able to contrast them with seeing them in a prior book from a different POV.

    When Luka and Brady become involved, it is SMOKING hot. They really are perfect for each other: our humble, super-smart geek and our sweet, super-smart bodyguard. The realizations that come to Brady (about Luka and his father) prove how intelligent Brady is and how beaten down Luka has been. (Happily, he has Brady to build him back up to where he absolutely belongs.) Without giving away anything, choices that Luka makes closer to the end of the story had me cheering inside and *almost* made up for the tears I cried during parts of this book.

    I see that some people think this book is out of order and should have come before Defend (book 8). I thought about that, but I think if Clip came first, people would have seen bits of Nathan and Derringer and then claimed their story should have come first. The bottom line is these two stories overlap in time and the reader loses nothing in reading them in this order.

    Nathan and Derringer's story should have followed this because it was so clear that they hadn't gotten together yet by the introduction to Derringer half way through this book.

    But, if you haven't read that book yet then this book is a five star read. It was by far the most heartbreaking and intense of the series! Brady and Luca were so cheated out of live both by Luca's father and by each other but stick with it because their HEA is so worth it.

    This book didn't make sense to me. We skipped over the entire part of Luka and Blake actually getting to know one another so that one one page they are strangers who are attracted to each other, and the next they have been in one another's company for 6 months and are pining after each other. Because of that, I didn't really buy into their relationship. There wasn't any real character building since all of the actual periods of growth for both characters was glossed over - like when Blake left after Luka was stabbed, Luka says that it broke him that Blake wasn't there when he needed him, but we never actually got to experience that, it was just something that Luka mentions after the fact.

    I liked how the story tied into the others in the series, but I just didn't really care about either of the characters in this book in their own right.

    I am damn sure am not a hockey fan, but the author has you feel as if you were right there in the mix of everything. Of all the Hard Hit series this one was by far was my favorite. I laughed, and I cried, and when an author in my opinion can do that, then you know you have read a story from a true artist. I can't wait for Pound to be released, to be transported as I lose myself in the story.
