Boxed Set: The Clockwork Siren Series, Books 1-3: Mermaid Shifter Romance Series Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Three romantic steampunk adventures that follow Melusine Doré on her quest to rid the world of monsters…and her struggle to come to terms with every monstrous facet of herself.

Immersed (Adventure One in the Clockwork Siren Series) Melusine Doré slays monsters for a living. The grim and gruesome don’t frighten her; she can take on a cyclops or a three-tailed dragon without even breaking a sweat. But falling in love? Falling in love terrifies her. Because love has the power to reveal a secret dark and dangerous enough to completely shatter her world.

Submerged (Adventure Two in the Clockwork Siren Series) When Melusine and Levi go hunt a beast down South, Melusine’s deepest fear becomes a reality as she finds herself in exactly the place where all her troubles began: home. There, Melusine must face the dark secrets and lies of her family’s past—and the very real possibility that she is more monster than maiden.

Surfaced (Adventure Three in the Clockwork Siren Series) When Melusine and Levi discover that someone is trapping and torturing monsters, they're led on a journey to a traveling freak show. A simple investigation quickly turns into a tangled mess. Levi goes missing and Melusine must tap into all her unusual talents to find and rescue her lover. This time though, Melusine won't be the deadliest fish in the sea.

Immersed (Adventure One in the Clockwork Siren Series)
WHAT IF LOVE TURNED YOU INTO A MONSTER?
Melusine Doré slays monsters for a living. The grim and gruesome don’t frighten her; she can take on a cyclops or a three-tailed dragon without even breaking a sweat. But falling in love? Falling in love terrifies her. Because love has the power to reveal a secret dark and dangerous enough to completely shatter her world.

Submerged (Adventure Two in the Clockwork Siren Series)
WHAT IF EVERYTHING YOU KNEW ABOUT YOURSELF WAS A LIE?
When Melusine and Levi go hunt a beast down South, Melusine’s deepest fear becomes a reality as she finds herself in exactly the place where all her troubles began: home. There, Melusine must face the dark secrets and lies of her family’s past—and the very real possibility that she is more monster than maiden.

Surfaced (Adventure Three in the Clockwork Siren Series)
WHAT IF LOVE MEANT EXPOSING YOUR DARKEST SECRET TO THE WORLD?
When Melusine and Levi discover that someone is trapping and torturing monsters, they're led on a journey to a traveling freak show. A simple investigation quickly turns into a tangled mess. Levi goes missing and Melusine must tap into all her unusual talents to find and rescue her lover. This time though, Melusine won't be the deadliest fish in the sea.

Love is the deadliest thing in world. It's a drug and you can't get away from it. You can't control who you fall in love with and you definitely cannot control how much you love. The Clockwork Siren series will lead you on an adventure alongside Katie Hayoz.

No matter how much I could not get into Katie Hayoz's Untethered, this is a book that I can read again and again

Never once did a sliver of doubt enter my mind; from the very first page of the very first book, I just knew that I was going to love this series. Melusine Doré and Levi Cannon, probably my new favorite literary couple, are faced over and over with fierce monsters and the nefarious villain, Sir Edwin Aldridge. Seriously, I can't help but envision him twisting his mustache as he works out a new plan to trap Melusine. And when his plans invariably fall apart, I hear a small voice whisper, "Drat! Foiled again!" I halfway expected him to tie her to the railway tracks. Such a classic villain.

Though the stories are not long, they're the perfect length. The stories never lag, and they're filled with action and just a pinch of romance. Despite the death, torture, pain, and tears that make an appearance through the pages, never once did the books cross a line. They remained entirely clean. The chemistry between Melusine and Levi is steamy, though never lewd, never graphic. Their 'swears' are all outdated and harmless to our modern-day sensibilities.

Now, there's just one small problem... is this the end? Will I be forced to live out my days without another of Melusine's adventures? In my eyes, the series is prime for any number of story lines. Please? In the meanwhile, I will just have to make my way through the rest of Katie Hayoz's books. In me, she has earned a devoted fan.

Melusine Doré has spent her life hunting down and killing monsters for a living. Her biggest competition is Levi Cannon who’s family is well off so Melusine resents him for taking away jobs from her that she needs to survive. When the two are forced to team up to hunt a sea creature they can’t help but end up attracted to each other. Unfortunately for Melusine she has been cursed when it comes to love.

All three books of the Clockwork Siren Series in a boxed set. The three novellas are Immersed, Submerged, and Surfaced. Each continue the story on from where the last had ended and each get a bit more intense.

Katie Hayoz has done a wonderful job with this story and bringing all the different elements of it to life. There was just so many different things going on that a part of me thought this story would probably fail miserably but I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Chicago was turned into the fantasy/steampunk land with monsters and machines. The characters were given enough attention to their back stories that you really care about them and their relationship.

Great fast paced read with a mixture of a lot of different elements.

I'm a big fan of steampunk, and I love Katie Hayoz's version.

Immersed introduces us to Melusine Doré and her dark, water secret. We also get to meet Levi Cannon. He's a great steampunk hero, brash and daring and downright incorrigible. He's a great character-opposite for Melusine. This is steampunk with fantasy and a romance for good measure.

Submerged continues the story of Melusine and Levi, our favorite monster-hunting duo. We learn about all the home-darkness that made Melusine who she is and filled her with trepidation. This one is darker than the first, but just as good.

Surfaced ends the series and wraps up all the loose ends. While I think there might be more adventures for Melusine and Levi, Surfaced is a great end to an amazing steampunk romp. It's not quite a fairy tale "happily ever after" but it's a satisfying realistic one.

Katie Hayoz has an amazing way with words. Her writing is smooth, filled with images and wonderful turns of phrases. This is definitely a recommended read. And, trust me, when you read the first, you'll want to read the other two. Go with the boxed set.
