CONVICT (Unfit Hero Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 444 ratings

Guilty. ExCon. Felon. Prisoner. Criminal.

Words that now represent me.
Words that keep any decent person away from me.

I never gave much thought to words before now.

Slut. Hussy. Whore. Homewrecker. Jezebel.

Words that now reflect me.
Words that will stay indefinitely.

The evidence of those words grow inside of me.

Those Words make the entire town assume they are vindicated to use them.
I am wrong.
They are right.

Born and raised in the Central Valley in California. My husband and I moved to Oregon while he was in the US Coast Guard and then to Texas for ten years before recently relocating to North Carolina. We spend our time with our two sons at all their events, screaming from the stands as they swim their hearts out!

Oh wow, Hayley Faiman has done it again! She has given us a story that sucks the reader in, makes us care about the characters to the point that when the book is finished we’re not even close to wanting to see it end and we’re psyched to get to the next book in the series! Yep, that’s where I am, next book, need to see how Rylan and Channing are doing and get full disclosure on all the guys! But I’ve jumped way ahead here...sorry...Convict is an amazing story. Rylan and Channing are broken souls who find each other and it’s so heartbreaking at times to read because people can be so destructive and hurtful, but their love for each other and the family they have surrounding them make all the hard times fade away. Love the spirit of this book and honestly can’t wait to see who’s story is next...can’t wait to revisit these fascinating people. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book...I also purchased a copy.

Convict is the first book in the new Unfit Hero series for author Hayley Faiman. I have been a big fan of this author since I read her Notorious Devils MC series. Her writing leans toward the more erotic side of romance with a little dark suspense thrown in and with Convict we saw a more sensitive side of her writing.

The main character Rylan has just been released from a five-year prison sentence after committing vehicular manslaughter while under the influence. His parents are junkies, he’s a former dealer and recovering addict, he has all the baggage to self-destruct the minute he is out of prison.
The heroine, Channing, is a naïve, young waitress. She has been having an affair with her ex-teacher and just recently found out that she is pregnant with his child. She was raised by a single alcoholic mother, which also gives her all the reason to continue the cycle.
What we find when they come together is that sometimes broken pieces can complete a puzzle. Rylan and Channing finding each other was what they needed to cut from what their future should look like and pave their own way.

I supremely enjoyed Rylan’s character and his journey through this book. Faiman has a way of writing broken male characters that society tells us we are supposed to hate, but we end up falling in love with. I wasn’t a huge fan of the heroine Channing, I just didn’t feel like we got to know her as well, so I didn’t have that connection with her. But the overall story-line was good with some unexpected twists and suspense. I am excited to see where this series goes and whose book will be next.

Wow so the fact that we have the dynamic of sinner vs saint from the MC POV was different. We always get the virginal heroines but this one is different. The Mc just got out of prison and I think this story makes a very believable plot point about convicts and how they get treated. Then there’s the fallen woman and anyone who lives in a small town knows how single moms are treated. So this was a new story that I loved and I can’t wait to read the rest!

This book was a surprise. Ryland and Channing were a messed up pair that found a new beginning in each other. I would call it semi insta-love but it didn't bother me because they still worked at becoming best friends and the relationship definitely evolved. The supporting friend cast was great and I can't wait to read their stories. Wyatt was just the best friend ever and I can't wait to read his story next. I expected this book to be dark based on the subject matter snd cover but it really wasn't dark at all. My only problem with the story was the lack of physical description of Louis. Basically all we got was that he was a boxer and a big guy with dark hair.. That annoyed me so hopefully the author didn't have his character completely flushed out at the time because he has his own book and based on that books cover - that wasnt an accurate description at all.

This book just flows. The characters are completely believable and the journey they embark on is not easy, but they have each other and that's all they need. Things happen for a reason, and it is beautiful when it all works out.

This book is AMAZING. Both H and h have made bad decisions they each have to live with. This story is about life. Poverty. Small Town life. It's about 2 broken, lost people finding each other. It is NOT about a billionaire nor a brother's best friend or a MC coming to the rescue. It is a story about life.

This book had a lot of potential and could have been really cute, but it’s so drawn out. It legit covers things from day to day, so it’s super rushed as far as the relationship goes given that Channing and Rylan have only known each other for less than a month.

It’s far too repetitive, we spend the majority of the book reading the same things over and over again. The time limits are all messed up too, as if the author has forgotten what she’s previously written.

I seriously dislike all the pedoph*le and child abuse talk. As slimy and gross as James is, he was never been with someone underage. All of that mess seemed like unnecessary filler.

The big reveal towards the end was too much drama, unrealistic, and make the story take a complete 180.
We went from a simple affair for over 80% of the book, to devious kidnapping abusers that are capable of murder?
It just didn’t make any sense.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how Rylan stepped up to take care of Channing, and how he stayed clean and sober, for the most part but also sought help when he slipped. I finished this story feeling very happy with the whole thing.
