About the Author

Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she’s been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

An unforgettable second chance romance that tells a beautiful story of love and pain, fate and circumstances, forgiveness and hope.
One of my absolute favorites this year.

“Born to love you, baby… Die lovin’ you, my Sylvie.”

There are books you fall in love with and there are books that own you. Creed and Sylvie’s story owned me. Loved every fated moment. Every emotionally charged word spoken. Every gaze rife with years of love so deep, so destined that it filled my heart to bursting. It’s a story that’s equal parts beauty and pain, but one you sensed was meant to be. In addition, these 382 pages encapsulated everything I love about Kristen Ashley. The rhythmic, honest-to-the-soul language, the kickass alpha male with a heart of gold, the fierce loyalties that withstand any and all tribulations, the once-in-a-lifetime kind of love with the power to right all wrongs… and this time, one kickass alpha girl, fearless and kind and incredibly strong where, and when, it counts. Creed and Sylvie’s tortured tale is gut-wrenching and beautiful, and one that unravels in a way that wasn’t easy, but in a way that was meant to happen exactly as it befell.

“Tucker Creed. My first love, my protector, my savior. My betrayer.”

Sylvie Bissenette is one tough chick. She’s had to endure physical pain, loss, betrayal and the scarring heartbreak of abandonment. Nonetheless, she lives her life head held high, with grit and courage, verve and determination. With a job she believes in, a group of loyal guys that have her back and a couple of friends who know her and love her unconditionally, she’s got everything she needs. She’s fiercely independent, intelligent and able to kick some serious ass. Yet even unaware, and beyond a deceptive shield of impenetrability, she carries the broken memory of her first love… the only man she’s ever loved, who loved her in a way that ruined her for all else and broke her in a way she hasn’t been able to recover. Tucker Creed. So when fate intercedes and Creed is suddenly back in her life and ready to partner with her on a job, she is all kinds of angry and unsettled.

“Learn this about me, partner, and I suggest you do it now… I do not go back. Eyes ahead. Feet moving forward. I don’t ever f*#@$ng go back. I don’t talk about it. I don’t think about it… You were my life a long time ago. I’ve lived two full lifetimes since then, each entirely different. I like the one I’m in now. I’m not going back to the ones before.”

Immediately, I felt the air thicken and my heart stop as these two people who loved each other deeply came face-to-face for the first time in sixteen years. Creed, in all his 6 ft+ muscled frame, shaggy hair and piercing blue eyes laser focused on Sylvie, is at minimum thoroughly disconcerting and entirely breathtaking. He makes it clear in the way badass alphas do, that he’s there to stay. There to tackle the past. And there to do it with Sylvie at his side. A story hides behind the scar on his face, beyond the shards of Sylvie’s broken heart, before the sixteen years they lost. There’s so much unsaid, so many memories, so many feelings, even now. And it’s the volatility of all those hidden emotions that sends them tumbling into the past and straight into each other’s arms.

“You need me. You won’t stay away and you won’t let me go because, baby, you can’t breathe without me.”

The answers to why he abandoned her unfurl gradually, through chapters that alternate between past and present. It’s a mystery that baffled me as it quickly became clear that it certainly wasn’t because Creed didn’t love her. The glimpses into their past were so beautiful, so poignant, so raw and real, that it made their moments in the present so much more emotionally laden. Every interaction was charged and meaningful and I desperately wanted them together. Once the truth of his abandonment (and her ordeal) was revealed, I was utterly gutted. The facts were intensely painful and difficult to get past. My own heart ached with pain for these two people who had truly never stopped loving each other. What to Sylvie is at first a fun rekindling she thinks she can walk away from, quickly turns into their special kind of something that will last forever. Creed isn’t taking no for an answer. He’s willing to work with Sylvie as she battles her demons and the truth of what happened to him so long ago.

“It’s always you and me.” I nodded again and felt my lips quivering. He kept whispering, “Always me and my Sylvie, yeah?”
    “Yeah,” I whispered.”

I think one of the big reasons I loved this story so much is because there was this profound sense of connection and intimacy. It was deep love and pain twined together so closely that the emotions bled off the page. I loved Sylvie for so many reasons, her strength and fierceness in the forefront. But Creed, for me, was the true hero. He sacrificed his own life and happiness for Sylvie, and once he had her back, he was all in, heart and soul, willing to do anything to make things right for Sylvie and for them both. Even after so much time apart, he knew what Sylvie needed. Knew when to push hard and when to embrace fully. He just knew his Sylvie.

“Some people get to live life. Some people survive it. We’re survivors. We can carve out our piece of happy, and, I swear to God, baby, right now, you got my vow, for you and for me, the rest of our lives, I’ll bust my ass to carve our piece of happy.”

And of course, their connection is palpably evident in the scorching chemistry between them. They couldn’t get enough of each other and the pages burned, burned, burned with the passion they set aflame.

“I loved the man under me in a way that wasn’t just mean to be. It wasn’t a way we were born to be. It was in a way that needed to be.”

Many times I have finished a book and said THIS… this is my favorite Kristen Ashley book. I’ll refrain from saying it yet again, but certainly this story touched me in a way that I won’t forget. I love second-chance romances with stories that come full circle and this one has probably been the best second-chance romance I’ve read. Even now as I type my review, I feel my throat constrict with the sheer beauty of it. Add in the amazing bond between Knight and Sylvie that seriously made me want to cry at times, and it’s simply perfect. I’ve enjoyed reading about people like Knight, Creed and even Sylvie, the unfinished heroes who haven’t walked the straight and narrow path their entire lives. They straddle the lines between right and wrong and live in worlds shadowed with shades of grey. But they’re real, flawed, atypical and intensely human with the capacity to love hard and defend fiercely. I simply can’t get enough of what Kristen Ashley has to offer, and I know that as I continue to make my way through her long list of books, I will undoubtedly fall in love again and carry with me stories I know I’ll re-read and will never forget.

“For over twenty-seven years, every day, every minute, every second, I’ve loved you, Tucker Creed.”

This girl has a major crush on Tucker Creed! Every time I read a Kristen Ashley book, I wonder what kind of water they have where she lives and who the male inspiration behind her characters is. Creed had fantastic character development and a great story line that made me smile and cry.

Sylvie is one kick a** chick! She is tough as nails, carries a gun and to be quite honest, I would be very scared to meet her in a dark alley. However, she also has an extremely caring and nurturing side when it comes to those she loves and respects. She had been through some things in her life that were nothing short of horrible and disgusting but instead of taking the wrong path in life, she choose to help others who need it. I respected Sylvie because she was so different from the normal heroine and it made the book all the more interesting.

Now, let me talk about Creed for a bit (or a long bit). This guy was truly a dream guy! He can be tough, all alpha but he can also be extremely sensitive and he will protect Sylvie at all costs. He respected her, hard exterior and all, and loved her for it. He says some of the most amazing things. "You need me. You won't stay away and you won't let me go because, baby, you can't breathe without me." He could be shoving guys around one moment and then the next he could be a big kind teddy bear to the kids next door. Like Sylvie, he did not have a great upbringing and their mutual bad luck brought them together when they were young and created a deep bond between them.

The book alternates from the past to the present which works really well since Creed and Sylvie go way back. It allowed me to understand what brought them together at such a young age and what tore them apart sixteen years before present day. When I learned what tore them apart, it BROKE my heart. I mean broke it, shattered it and really it was hard to read about at times but it comes in pieces so that helped soften the blow a little bit!

The relationship that develops in present day isn't always typical and Sylvie has to get over a lot of hurt and anger to move forward with Creed, or anyone for that matter. Since she turned her life around, she has been avoiding relationships because she needs total control over her life. In order for Creed to get anywhere with her, he is going to have to earn her trust and break down a bunch of REALLY high walls! The two were truly made for each other and to say their relationship is HOT might be an understatement!

My only issue with this book is some of the dialogue on Creed's part. He is from Kentucky and is a rugged dude but at times I had to read the dialogue twice in order to take it in. It seemed that words were missing when in fact I think it was meant to be that way;)

Creed is a great pick for anyone who loves alpha males, a heroine that is anything but the norm or a great story that will take you through a variety of emotions! I cannot wait for the third book in The Unfinished Heroes Series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Intenso
Reviewed in Brazil on August 20, 2014

Ela é a típica anti-heroína.

E a verdade me deixou perplexa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Series!

Gah!!!!!! I'm relatively new to Kristen Ashley (I've only read about 5-6 of her books so far), but she is RUINING me for all other authors with her brilliantly emotional dialogues, her sexy alpha males and her lovable and funny female characters. As far as I'm concerned, no one writes alpha male like her, and I'm converted! You win K.A., you win! Now, I'll calm down a little, and tell you about "Creed"! :)

Sylvie Bissenette runs away from home one night at the age of 6, trying to escape the constant rows between her dad and step-monster. When she falls, she is rescued by 11 year old Tucker Creed, and it is love at first sight for Sylvie.

They make an agreement that Sylvie will come over to Tucker's house whenever she's frightened at home, thus starting a close friendship between the unlikely pair.

As the years go by, they both plot to move away from their messed-up families once Sylvie has reached 18. But on the day of her birthday, and having finally consummated their relationship that morning, Tucker doesn't turn up at their meeting point, and Sylvie is distraught, and never hears from him again.

Fast forward 16 years, and Sylvie is working as a freelance private investigator, doing some assignments for Knight Sebring, when fellow freelance private investigator, Tucker Creed, is also assigned to the same case. Fireworks fly in every direction, and Creed has a lot of explaining to do.......

This was such an excellent story. Sylvie didn't know where Creed disappeared to, and Creed thought she ended up married to a man more becoming to her social standards, according to her father. The truth was so messed up, and to read about the hell both of them went through, unknown to both of them, was horrific. I loved how we were given the back-story in installments, eeking it out until the last few chapters.

It was sad in so many places. My heart broke for Sylvie when she learned the names of Creed's children, being one such example.

The dialogue was beautiful and made so much sense, and I loved not only the main characters, but most of the supporting characters also, such as Charlene.

All in all, a fab read, and I'm definitely starting on "Raid" next!

I am a big fan of Kirsten Ashley and was so happy to find this series. (also see Knight and Raid - all are stand alones & HEA)
After reading a few (ok, a lot) of her books, I tend to connect with some more than others. However, I love them all in their different ways.
I am biased toward Creed because of the depth of the darkness and the contrast of the light. It was beautiful. Ashley is easy for me to follow into the darkness because she takes care of the reader. I don't feel too battered or torn and left on the shore, emotionally speaking. Creed did that a bit (big time, actually), but Ashley's timing is exceptional and delivers the goods.

Other books are not as explicit, so take note. Personally, I find that my emotional connection is intensified by the descriptive sex because it ends up becoming an integral part in the plot. (I L-O-V-E, love it.)
All her books amaze me. Fantastic entertainment and character self discoveries. I am always glued to the page because I cannot predict how the characters react. Yes, we get our HEA but we also get to follow two people as they build their relationship. I think Ashley acknowledges that readers are not only interested in the HEA 'ta-da' moment but a series of moments that lead to the HEA, her specialty!
I am a totally biased reviewer. I will always love Ashley's books. I just needed to put it in print.
