Crew (Crew Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
To survive where I live, you have two options.
You can be a Normal—a cheerleader, jock, member of the debate team, or on the yearbook committee. You pretend everything is normal.
Or you can be crew.
You insult us? We hurt you.
You hurt us? We really hurt you.
And if you f*ck with us, we will end you.
My name is Bren.
I'm the only female in the Wolf Crew—the best, fiercest, and most dangerous crew there is—and we have a rule: There's no falling in love.
Well… too late.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020Having no internet recently allowed for me to reread books that I’d not read in a year or more, and Crew was one of the first I selected. It comes as no surprise to me because from the moment I first read a story by Tijan, I’ve been obsessed. And while my blogging keeps me jumping from ARC to ARC as a rule, the minute I have time to squeeze something in from my wish list or a reread, I definitely lean first towards her stories.
Tijan writes angsty, sexy, and exceptional romances that stick with me long after I’ve turned the final pages. Crew is the first book in a coming of age, best friends to lovers, contemporary romance trilogy. This series is everything I expect from Tijan’s writing. The characters—Bren Monroe and Cross Shaw—have an almost tangible chemistry that’s well developed and intricately woven into a story that exhibits all. the. feels! Crew is a slow burn romance that I found richly rewarding because as readers we grow to love the characters individually and deeply as their budding relationship changes from best friends to lovers. Bren and Cross are brilliantly written characters. They have expertly crafted depths and a fabulous story arc that truly allows readers to see a character that grow and progresses in a very real manner. This, IMO, is often missing in modern storytelling. And while many readers now find slow burn romances unfulfilling, the time and patience that Cross put into his developing his relationship with the upmost care exactly what I look for in my favorite book boyfriends. I found it richly rewarding, very realistic, and indicative of the types of relationships that last the test of time.
Tijan crafts stories which offer a true richness of characters, complete unpredictability, epic entertainment, and she does all of this without penning a story that feels like we’ve read it a million times over. Her tropes and storylines all vary greatly, and I’ve come to expect total originality in the stories she delivers. While other authors might be known for off-the- charts sex, their ...hole heroes, or even true bad... heroines, Tijan talents outreach this consistently. Does she offer these traits? Absolutely. Yet, she also releases new and unprecedented stories time and again. And in my opinion, that’s truly exceptional storytelling. I’ve come to expect these as hallmarks of Tijan’s stories but something about Crew just held me extra captivated…extra invested in the story. I have read Crew a total of three times, and still I couldn’t put the book down the third time I picked it up--I read all through the night and dealt with an exhaustion that no parent of small children appreciates. Regardless, the book is incredibly rewarding even with the cliffhanger at the end…Lucky for readers who have just come across this story, the opportunity to read through the trilogy in one fell swoop is at hand with the coming release of Always Crew.
One aspect of the draw I felt initially with Tijan’s earlier crew books is something that I felt its important to touch on in this review. I’ve had the opportunity to read the Fallen Crest books and The Boy Who I Grew Up With, and have therefore, been introduced to the crew system Tijan’s fostered through these stories. Yet, I don’t expect everyone reading my reviews to know what a ‘crew’ is. And while I can’t come close to expressing it with the same skillset as Tijan, the primary takeaway is a crew is not a gang, it’s a group of friends who would do anything and everything to support each other…to have one another’s backs. And that is exactly the types of friendships we all value. So, when you pick-up any of the aforementioned titles, don’t go in with the notion of a gang-esque storyline.
Finally, if you’re looking for your next five star read, then look no farther…you’ve found it!
**This review has been updated from the first I left when the story was released in August 2018 to offer additional points from my earlier review. However, my rating has stood for two complete rereads and I just wish I could give it more than five stars.
Quotes:
Along with Jordan, there were two others besides myself—Cross Shaw and Zellman Greenly. My name is Bren Monroe
That was the basic rule of being in a crew: you backed each other up. No matter what.
“We don’t fight like you do.” I started for the door, saying over my shoulder, “And just remember, you declared war first.”
“In every situation, against every person, it’s you. Your first loyalty is to the crew, but mine is to you. It’s always been like that.”
Something’s going to happen.” He turned back to Jordan and Zellman. “I don’t know if they’ll be on our side or against us, but you have to know…” He swung those piercing eyes my way. “Everything I do is for you.”
“If they weren’t here, if you were ready, I would take you inside. I would strip you naked. I would lay you down, and I would worship every ... inch of your body because that’s just the beginning of what you deserve.”

What a refreshing story!! Unique, original, and a ton of fun to read!! It was darkly addictive, pulled at your heartstrings, made your heart race, and left you spinning and eager for more!! I felt as if I was right there in the thick of it, enjoying every second. I absolutely loved Bren's fire, vulnerability, and the way she held her own in a world not necessarily made for a girl to do so.
"His lips touched mine, and everything in the world softened. It was different-not the kiss, but the feeling. This was FINALLY."
Cross is everything you want in a male lead. Quietly alpha, strength, devotion...the slow burn between them almost killed me at times!! I couldn't look away, especially when the Author sent you on different directions leading you to believe something else was going to happen. They were forbidden, yet exactly what I wanted them to be, they were best friends for life that was just so much more!! The secondary characters were endearing, frustrating, vividly described, I was just sucked in the entire time I was reading! I will absolutely devour the rest of this series, especially of how this one ended!!
"I wanted to let go of the armor I had to wear all the time. I could with him, and I was at the moment. I was merely a girl being held in the arms of the boy she was already in love with."

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2018Crew is what true friendships/ families are all about. The Crew bond is stronger than glue and stronger than blood... There will be ups and downs yet you have each other's back unconditionally.
Bren is struggling with many personal demons, she hurts yet she fierce, loyal, passionate, cold, combative and dangerous when pushed. she is feared by many. Then there is Cross he is her best friend; even within their Crew their relationship is first and that's were his loyalty lies. He is her rock, he always has been. Cross is hot, every girl wants him, he is quiet, smart, hot tempered, protective, fearless and deadly when threatened. Bren is harboring a secret that could change everything between them. Zellman and Jordan their other Crew family are funny, boisterous, loyal, fighters and very protective of their Crew. When you threat or you mess with one of them, you mess with all of them. They will retaliate and make no mistake, you will regret it.
Tijan never disappoints. This book is so good you will not want to put it down till the very end. You will love it, feel completely satisfied but like with anything good you will be left wanting more. These characters are relatable and that makes for a great read. I highly recommend it to those who love a great story line or simply enjoy YA.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better
If I read the word CREW one more time I am gonna barf. ‘Spoiler alert’ The main character Bren is truly bad ass, she sliced the principle 2 times, but the girls from the high school still try to bully her. I don’t get it in real life no normal person would go over to such a girl, they would try to not make eye contact. Not fight her over a boy. So that seems unlikely. The main character Cross is a sweet guy, suddenly he likes bren a lot but we don’t know why everything changes for him. I just think the book is a bit to violent to a point where it is no longer plausible.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Tijan Fan Now
This was my first Tijan book, and I really enjoyed it. The writing style felt different than a lot of others I've read and I was happy about that. The characters are all well-written and multi-faceted which was great. There are too many flat characters in the world and these definitely weren't flat.
The dynamic between Bren and her crew held my interest, and I loved the banter between her and Zellman. Cross was, well, smokin' hot and the relationship between he and Bren was well-crafted, both emotionally and physically.
Overall I was really happy I chose to stay up and read until the early morning hours so I could finish this in one go. I will be reading the rest of the series and adding the Fallen Crest series as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't get the concept of "crew"
I had to skip paragrahs and even chapters of this book and I didn't find it interesting nor entertaining.
I just can't get the concept of "cre"'. I only see four teeagers that are good friends but all the repeating that they're "crew" but not a gang is beyond me. The four friends seemed to me like they were playing to be adults but failing.
I'm sorry but the plot didn't keep me going and the main characters weren't enough interesting for me. It has good writing though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cross and Bren
Wow. What a ride. I loved this book. Bren is a strong girl. I love how her and Cross look after each other. How their crew looks out for each other. This book is definitely worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing as always!
Crew is the story of Bren Monroe, the only girl in the whole crew system, and her crew, the Wolf Crew. People liken them to just a group of friends, but they are so much more than that, they have each other’s back through anything, they can trust one another always and never question each other’s loyalty to the crew. The crew system in the town of Rousseau is instrumental to how it’s ran, set up by Bren’s older brother Channing when he was still in high school, it is now infamous around the area. You don’t have to be in crew to survive, you can be a Normal, but if you are crew, you will go against anyone who does your crew wrong.
Bren has had a troubled upbringing, she keeps herself to herself, and her crew made up of Cross, Jordan and Zellman are more of a family to her than her brother, who was absent for some time. She can rely on them always, especially her best friend Cross who has had her back always. When a new guy shows up in town, with links to a rival crew, trouble begins which changes everything the crew system and those around them know, making people begin to question loyalty, friendships and what they’ve always known. Bren and her crew must take a stand, but along the way, Bren must face her own demons. Her relationship with Cross slowly changes, causing their bond to become even stronger. When normal are brought into the fight, including Cross’s sister Taz, things change even more, but in the end, will Wolf Crew be left as one?
This book is so hard to review, because there are so many events and situations which cannot be reviewed without reading the book yourself. One thing you should know is Bren is in no way the meek girl who needs a prince charming to swoop in and save the day. This girl knows how to fight and how to stand up for herself and those she loves, her crew. She is fearless when it comes to confrontation, always ready to show whoever is questioning her strength they are wrong. But she has a dark side, which she keeps buried, that raises its dirty head at the least opportune times. She has to learn to control it, because at times, she needs that side of her to come out and help her fight.
Being in a crew is about being equal, there is no gender roles, the boys do not protect Bren because she is the only girl, they protect her because she is one their own, and she does the same back. Cross, Jordan and Zellman are her boys, but this is not a reverse harem romance at all. She has a strong friendship with all of them, but only her connection with Cross develops into more. Cross is the strong silent type, only speaking when he has something important to say, but loyal to Bren to a fault. He is a mysterious character, who you only feel like you know surface level by the end, but I’ll let you into a secret, you find out so much more about her in book 2, Crew Princess.
Crew is full of drama, twists and turns, secrets and loyalty, and was just as good the second read through as it was the first time. This world that Tijan has created, linked closely with my beloved Fallen Crest, with cameos from Heather and Channing too, has further cemented this series as another favourite from this author! I would highly recommend Crew!
