CRIMINAL IMPULSES is a classic romp filled with political intrigue, mayhem, and plain old-fashioned blow-‘em-up fun. It puts forth a time in the not-too-distant future where a major earthquake is the catalyst for the restructuring of society around a consortium of corporations that care more about amassing money and influence than the well-being of the less fortunate. We enter this world through the eyes of a car thief and what he believes is his last heist. He gets accused of a cataclysmic explosion that ushers in memory loss and his subsequent search for the truth.
I had a lot of fun reading this page-turning book. Stuckless keeps the reader guessing over who to trust—who’s responsible for a string of explosions, and whether they are justified in doing so. We’ve got bad guys, misunderstandings, heroes on the brink, all under an umbrella of questions that we have wrestled with for years: the powerful elite’s responsibility to a suffering public. What keeps our attention is the way in which the author keeps us guessing about where our allegiances should lie. The pacing is excellent. The characters, fully drawn. The writing, well crafted. If fast-paced thrillers are your bag, you should read this book.
