Cursed Blood (Grimwood Book 1) Kindle Edition
But fate has other plans and freedom can take many guises.
As a girl, Geneva devoured stories about the wild boy who lived at the highest point in the forest. A changeling, a prince, a forest spirit—all the tales tell a different story. Imagine her surprise when she stumbles across the cursed tower and the young man held prisoner there.
It’ll take all her cunning and courage to free him.
What she doesn’t know is that freeing him might doom them all.

About the author

Kelly Apple is a hardcore paranormal junkie with the bad habit of falling for damaged heroes. Finding (and writing) characters who make her heart break is one of her goals in life. She has a boy who can drink his weight in Mountain Dew and always tries to get her to play video games with him. She politely declines on account of all the voices in her head who are impatiently waiting for their stories to be told. Oddly, her two dogs have never tried to talk her into playing video games. They just expect belly rubs.
Kelly lives in sunny Northern California and she’s baffled by snow. Her flip-flop tan is something many dream about but few can achieve.
She reads, she writes, she tweets.

A- rating
I love, love, LoVe, LOVE the premise behind Kelly Apple's development of this series. They're twisted fairy tales, but instead of the normal characters you know, the male/female rolls have been reversed.
This particular story is a twist on Rapunzel. Zel has been trapped by the witch in the tower for hundreds of years. She uses his special blood and hair for her magical brews. She's also entrapped him within the boundary of her lands and he has no idea how to break that spell.
Geneva has her own magical abilities and those have enabled her to sneak onto the witch's land without detection. She instantly sees Zel's good heart and knows that he's being forced to do the witch's bidding and wants to help him. And even though Zel is entrapped, it does not mean he's a weak character. He simply has no options...until Geneva decides to help him.
I liked the story. It's a quick read and in typical Kelly Apple fashion is incredibly hot and sexy. Zel's never been exposed to anyone else besides the witch so I liked being able to see that discovery of real sexual awakenings with Geneva.
Kelly Apple did an incredible job completely re-interpretting the original fairy tale into something sexy, but also really interesting. My heart broke for Zel and what he's gone through. She also set up for an incredible series with the Grim family within this world of Grimwood Forest. I seriously cannot wait for the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2018This is the first book by Kelly that I have read. This book is different than any other book I have read. It was interesting. Normally the girl is always the one needing to be rescued and the guy doing the saving. This book was the opposite. Zel has been with the witch for as long as he can remember. She has complete control over him. She has taken his voice and has put a boundary spell on the land that he can’t go past. He must do whatever the witch wants him to do. Geneva has a nifty trick of her own she can make herself invisible. She finds Zel in the forest. She feels a pull towards him and wants to save him once she sees how the witch treats him. Things get more interesting the more the book progresses. There are things about the forest that neither of them knows. The Witch has a very informative book that may help them. I really liked this book and the characters. I liked how it was different. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. Great book Kelly.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2014Oh, I think I'm gonna like this series. ;) Not surprising though. For one thing, I love twisted Fairytales in general. Having Kelly Apple twist them pretty much guarantees that Grimwood is going to be entertaining.
Cursed Blood is a twist on Rapunzel, from a totally new perspective. In this author's rendition, the captive in the tower isn't a damsel, but a tortured prince.
I loved the connection between Zel and Geneva. She was the first person that had shown him anything close to kindness. He was terrified to lose her, but even more terrified that she would meet the same fate as all the other trespassers. Geneva had a few tricks up her sleeve though.
There were a few more surprises in Cursed Blood, but I'll let you discover those for yourself. All you need to know is that this quick read isn't lacking in action, cringe worthy gore (Kelly Apple doesn't hold back on her descriptions *shivers*) and there's more than enough smexiness to balance it all.
The next installment in the Grimwood series can't come soon enough. I can't wait to see how this author twists the next Fairytale. ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2017I love it when a book ends on a hopeful note, as does Cursed Blood. The characters are real and believable. The story line is so unusual and terrific, I did not want to stop until the end. And then I wanted more. I have so many unanswered questions. It is very good thing that this is a series, as I need answers.
