The last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat sweating it out, but I definitely think the McGowan’s went out on a bang with this one! “You can’t propose to me when I’m chained to the dining table.”

    Holy depravity and everything that may come in between. This book was by far the most twisted in the series and I loved every freaking minute of it!

    There was some serious fire between Cora and Ewen right from the beginning. It was really interesting and unique to see how the chemistry between both of them played out since Cora was filling in at Ewen's club for her twin sister Ruby and Ewen knew right from the beginning all of her little ticks so to say. While how he figured out that Cora was not really Ruby was really fun to get into and despite the fact that it was violating in some form to Cora (sneaking into her apartment while she was sleeping) it was really fun to see just how far Ewen was willing to go, especially since as you were watching that all unfold you were able to see his feelings for Cora begin to form and grow.

    Cora was also one really tough cookie. She certainly didn't have it easy when Ruby injured herself in trying to keep up as Ruby at her job while finishing her studies herself. She is one fiercely loyal individual who would do anything for the ones that she cares about all while putting herself and some of her needs on the backburner. It was really interesting to see just how much Ewen was able to teach her about herself. She has some desires that certainly in her eyes don't make her normal to most of society and it was really fun getting to see her push the limits of what she has known and begin to experience things that she may have wanted all in a safe space (despite the fact that again, some of it is a bit twisted and abnormal as to how they got into that situation with each other). The personal growth that happened within Cora was beautifully played out on the pages and was built up in such a way that you got to see just how strong of an individual she was at the climax of the story, especially since the conflict that happened in the background spills over from a previous story. It was nice to see everything resolved and that Ewen finally got to join his siblings in relationship bliss. I am sad to see the story of the McGowan's come to a close, but I can't wait to see more from Effie Campbell!

    I can’t believe this series is over 😭 I’m not a mafia fan, but Effie’s writing makes me forget why I don’t enjoy it!

    As with all of this amazing series, check TWs as they tend to be on the darker side.

    Cora is the good twin. The one who held onto her innocence. But in doing that she explores into the darker side of sexuality and finds herself enjoying it more than she imagined. When her sister finds herself injured, Cora is asked to take over her shifts at a sex club. She is warned that the boss, Ewen, is hard to work with. Cora just decides to go in and just do the job, until Ewen takes notice that ‘Ruby’ is not acting like her normal self.

    Ewen has had a hard time finding a partner who meets his standards. He has very specific tastes. One night while preforming a scene with ‘Ruby’ he is struck with a feeling he had never felt before when she seems different. Can he find out why and hold onto the one woman who has made him feel?

    I really, really enjoyed this book. Effie is a master as writing smooth flowing dark romance and it shows in all of her books. The suspense is just right, and the spice is always on point. Ewen is my second favorite MMC in the series (I don’t think Mac can ever be topped) and even though he is hard edged, he is also very tender and sweet. I loved how alpha he was with Cora who needed someone to show her it’s ok to like things others may not understand.

    If dark romance is a genre you enjoy, I highly recommend Dark Corruption and the whole McGowan series!

    And with that, all good things must come to an end. McGowan Mafia Series book 5, and the last in the series. This book follows Ewen McGowan and his obsession with Cora. Effie Campbell, you have created a 5 -part masterpiece. Thankful that I took a leap and picked up the first book in the series. I was hooked and I could not get enough. Each book follows a different McGowan sibling as they navigate the loss of a father, finding love, and living a life for themselves.

    Ewen is beyond words. Definitely a little unhinged, but who doesn’t love a morally grey MC. He would burn the world down for Cora, as one would. Cora, the sweet, innocent girl getting thrown into a crazy world after her twin sister needs her to cover for her at her job. Ever the observant, Ewen notices something is off with “Rose” before Cora can catch her breath. Who would have thought that in the mix of it all, the last McGowan sibling would find love.

    I would recommend this to any dark romance lover out there. Great series, but start from book 1. They can be read out of order but it definitely helps get the back story of everyone, as all the siblings make an appearance in every book. 10/10 loved every bit of every book in the series. Effie Campbell, I cannot thank you enough!

    I’m so glad I got to read this book. I was so nervous to read it, but it was a free read last year so I got the chance to actually read it and actually love it. I cannot wait to read all of them because I have missed my chance of reading all of them, but I will be reading them later on this year. I will say that this book did give me fifty shades vibes but this one is way better than that book I will tel you that . Good read and I look forward to seeing what this author has to offer in her next book

    Ewen is depraved, twisted, and just absolutely mouth-watering. He is on another level of DARK when it comes to the McGowan brothers.

    I couldn't stop reading, the darker He became the more I wanted. Cora never stood a chance with Ewen. She started out so innocent, and to see her character development through the story was fantastic. She definitely learned to adapt quickly!

    I'm sad this series is ending, but I'm excited to see where Effie takes us next!

    Dark Corruption is book 5 in the McGowan Mafia series and is Ewan and Cora's story. Now, normally I like to read a series - even if they're standalones - in order because OCD but the blurb for this book sounded just so good and right up my street. So I dove straight in and just couldn't put it down.
    In hindsight it might have been better if I had read the series in order as all the other siblings are mentioned in the book but I just couldn't wait.
    I haven't read any of Effie's books before so I wasn't sure what to expect but suffice to say I'm now going to start the series from the beginning as her writing is just so good. If you like hot, twisted, psychos then this is your book, don't delay, you won't regret it 🔥

    This book is filthy but so good! I was not expecting to love this book the way that I do! I read the last book of the series first and I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in the series! It’s got some gore in it and it can make your stomach uneasy but it also has dark depraved filth that will have you blushing head to your curling toes! The book wraps up really nice and it was a perfect ending to the series even though I haven’t read them in order. I know that the ending gives a feeling of acceptance and peace after everything every couple went through which in this book alone they went through so much. It was a great book and I’m excited to read the series and fall inlove with each couple characters. This is mafia without it focusing on mafia: atleast in this book it takes a bit of a back seat. I also appreciate that the author didn’t add useless chapters in the book that were just filler pages with no real bits of importance. The whole book focused on the couple which I appreciated. This is a quick read. I would check the tw page as always as there are quite a lot of things that make trigger someone sexually or violently. It does have gore and guts while still being clitature. The only problem I have is that the series is over but what happened to Alfie. That annoyed me. I hate loose ends not being wrapped up or being left with questions at the end. That is why this book did not get a 5 stars for me.
