The perfect holiday destination. The perfect place for murder...

Molly Higgins never expected to be caught up in a murder investigation. All she'd hoped for this year was to work hard, save enough money to open her very own café on the Cornish coast and avoid her ex, Conor Blackstone, who has just arrived back in the village.

But when she and Conor discover a body on the cliffside in Port Trevan they are thrown once more together. Molly is keen to leave the mystery to the police, but when she finds herself their top suspect, Molly has no choice but to catch the killer herself - before it is too late.

I was born in the 1980s in Yorkshire and live in Essex, where I belong to a small pride of cats. I have a second cousin who made the Guinness Book of Records for brewing the world's strongest beer, and I once ran over myself with a Segway scooter. These two things are in no way related. I've worked in an airport, a lab, and various shops, but much prefer writing because me and mornings are definitely not the best of friends.

I sold my first book in 2005 and since then have published many award-winning paranormal and contemporary romances and light-hearted mysteries, including the popular Sophie Green series. My sci-fi action romance Max Seventeen won the Paranormal Romantic Novel of the Year from the Romantic Novelists Association in 2017. Under the pen name Cat Marsters I also had a successful career in erotic romance, winning an Epic award in 2010.

Doc Martin meets Agatha Raisin in Death Comes to Cornwall, Kate Johnson’s quirky, gripping and captivating Cornish set cosy mystery featuring a brilliant new amateur sleuth who is intelligent, kind-hearted and intuitive: Molly Higgins. The first in what promises to be a fantastic new series, Death Comes to Cornwall is an immensely enjoyable read mystery fans will lap up.

Molly Higgins might have spent most of her life in Port Trevan, but that seems to be more due to circumstance than choice. Having to daily endure prejudice and disdain from their neighbours who think the Higgins family are always up to something, Molly might work her fingers to the bone doing a multitude of odds jobs to keep a roof over her head and that of her mother and sister, but she is still left frustrated by the lack of kindness she is subjected to by the Port Trevan community. Molly had tried to leave Port Trevan behind for Exeter, but when that hadn’t worked out, she had returned and vowed to make the best of things, even though that had been anything but easy. Still, Molly is prepared to put up with the snarky comments and barbed words from her neighbours if that means saving enough money to open up her own café and staying out of the way of her ex boyfriend, Conor Blackstone which is easier said than done considering he is one of the stars of TV show Doctor Wenn Investigates and Molly works as a runner on the set…

Molly and Conor had a red-hot summer fling which didn’t exactly have a Hollywood ending. Forced to work together and with Port Trevan not exactly being a bustling metropolis, Molly and Conor vow to keep each other at arm’s length which proves rather difficult when fate keeps conspiring to push the two of them together! With her younger sister and her mother to worry about – not to mention the fact that money is rather tight – Molly does not have the time nor the inclination for romance – and even if she did, she would certainly never go down that road again and fall for Conor all over again. With him being an up and coming actor whose job takes him all over the world and Molly firmly settled in Port Trevan, a relationship would be out of the question…or would it?

Port Trevan might be a small town, but it is certainly big on surprises. Having been born and bred round those parts, Molly thought that she had seen it all – but she has never stumbled upon a dead body before! When producer Georgia’s dead body is found on the cliffs, the police find themselves drawing up a list of suspects with Molly’s name being at the very top! Determined to prove her innocence, Molly finds herself doing some investigating to clear her name – and if she ends up spending a bit more time with Conor, so much the better!

Will Molly manage to unmask the identity of Georgia’s killer? Are she and Conor meant to be? Or is their relationship doomed? Whatever the outcome, one thing is certain: life in Port Trevan has suddenly become far more exciting than any TV drama!

Kate Johnson adds another feather to her cap with her first – and luckily not the last! – cosy crime novel featuring the fabulous Molly Higgins, Death Comes to Cornwall. Funny, gripping, suspenseful and immensely enjoyable, Death Comes to Cornwall is a brilliantly layered novel that manages to be both an intriguing and nail-biting mystery and a page-turning, witty and warm-hearted romance as Molly and Conor finding themselves falling for one another all over again.

Brilliantly paced, wonderfully atmospheric, funny, tense and impossible to put down, Death Comes to Cornwall is a must-read for cosy crime fans everywhere who need to add Kate Johnson’s Molly Higgins series to the top of their auto-buy list.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great mystery with Kate Johnson characters

I really enjoy Kate's writing and am a huge fan of all her work. I always love her characters, who are real, interesting, flawed and funny. This book doesn't disappoint; the mystery is well-told and moves along at a pace, while all the characters are well-written and rounded out with details that bring them to life. I liked Molly, and as it looks like it might become a series, I'm looking forward to reading more about her and her sometime complicated life. I might prefer Kate Johnson's edgier work - but don't be fooled - this may be billed as a 'cosy' mystery (whatever that means) - but it still has enough bite to keep it fun and page turning. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Enjoyed It!

Molly lives in a small village in Cornwall which sounds very like Port Isaac! She feels she is responsible to look after her mum and younger sister after her father left home and then her other sister left. Molly has to manage quite a few jobs to make ends meet and is unhappy when Conor Blackstone returns to the village to make more episodes of the television series Dr Wenn Investigates. With one of Molly's jobs means she also works on the series their paths are bound to cross, especially when they discover a body near when Conor is staying. There were sad moments, and funny times and I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.
